Google algorithm - May 25th
-
Hi there - we have noticed today a big shift today around for some clients major search terms. Some minor - some considerable! The search results have been mainly aimed at local search phrases i.e around cities etc.. Has any one else noticed a major shift is search results today or aware of any Google algorithm updates?
-
How to check if my site fatjar studios is affected or not?
-
Hi All!
Have anyone seen any pattern in those shifts?
Categories? Niches? Increments in SEM? -
Yep,
You're not the only one experiencing ranking fluctuations.

Someone else observed (in the comments) that the flux is really noticeable when geographic qualifiers are included in the query.

Yep, something seems to be afoot, Phil.

Google Beacons
We received Google Beacons for each of our physical locations, the info from Google is: It transmits a signal via BLE to smartphones within 11 meters It will provide information to visitors and offer opportunities to see products and add reviews It's connected to your Google Ads account somehow It is "on" as soon as it's removed form it's box It has to be activated via a provided code My question: Where does the data transmitted by the Beacon come from? How can I control that data? Is it pulled from our GMB account? THX for reading and responding, I'll add more to this as I learn more about Beacons. KJr PS: See ya @ MozCon 🙂

Local SEO & Google Maps Question - 1 Company with Multiple Google Pages
Hey Mozzers! I'm working with a client who has 2 websites (different URLs completely), which one is for all parts and the other is for accessories only. They have multiple brick and mortar locations throughout the US and have done a nice job creating Google My Business pages for each and all verified. Their question is will it benefit them to create and verify another GMB page with same address, but place in "Suite B", a new phone number and apply the other URLs for the accessories site. The business name would also be different, but similar meaning Business 1 = ABC where as Business 2 = ABC Accessories. Their goal would be to try to have both rank or display to improve their local SEO. In theory it sounds like it will work given NAP would be satisfied within the GMB, but wanted to get the Moz community thoughts on this first before moving forward. Look forward to the replies. Patrick

Anyone Seen Google Search Suggestions Like this?
I was putting a URL into a Google Spreadsheet and wanted to link to the url. The domain is a .legal domain and when I put it in I got instant search suggestions for a VF-Law.com (different firm in different state) but nothing showed for the .legal domain. I believe the site has only been up a few months but it is indexed in Google. I wondered if there is an issue with these newer domain extensions and Instant Search? Thoughts? I have attached an image here. 1BnYthO

When you think you know Google, but realise you don't
I've just typed "Private Investigator" into Google, location set to "Coleshill" (it's near Birmingham!)
Local SEO | | Solid_Web
The search results were surprising:
Position 6: birmingham-privateinvestigators.co.uk
Position 8: privateinvestigator-coventry.co.uk Both sites are the same source of information altered to suit the city - INCREDIBLY SPAMMY. They are just full of SEO text stuffing. No doubt any city you enter they will appear with [city]-privateinvestigators.co.uk..
How are they ranking with such old-skool dirty SEO tactics? You can't say they will be found eventually, because Google has released algorithm after algorithm updates to penalise sites like this. Could it be the importance of having a local phone number and (supposedly) physical address?0 -
Local Search - Google Mobile Results (Web&App)
Hi, I have a client with multiple locations. One of the locations manager is searching for branded and non-branded keywords on his mobile phone and not able to locate the business (within the parking lot of the location). Our ranking reports via a local search platform and manual checks indicate the location is actually ranking well. and we're seeing progress in GA. Has anyone deal with something like this before? This is a location that recently opened to the public. The concern is around mobile web and app results. I'm looking for some guidance around how to approach the situation. I'm sorry I cannot provide more details on the client.

Google updates... keeping with times?
We know about Panda... Penguin... Hummingbird... but I heard another major update is going to happen. Where do you find out the google updates ahead of time? Maybe a stupid question.

Google "pigeon" update, is Google turning search over to all the directories?
The recent news re an update by Google is beginning to show some interesting changes. The first major piece on this came from SearchEngineLand and had top local people like Linda Buquet commenting. Another post on this regarding a "yelp" correction from Search Engine Land was also illuminating. With the real estate vertical, I am seeing zero local companies in Houston, in the first couple of SERP's, other than the large MLS system, HAR. The others showing are all real estate directories that are nationwide like realty com, zil low, tru lia, etc. You literally cannot get a local brokerage to show on the first two pages of serps using any high volume keyword.

Does this mean Google is choosing to begin relegating its search results to the directories? Obviously, there is no right answer, but it certainly means those of us in the agency world need to be very careful (yes, even more so) going forward. I appreciate your comments. Robert2
