Hoth v Fiverr v general backlinking services
-
So the company I am working with has purchased backlinks from Hoth and Fiverr. We have noticed that a lot of links seem to be from very low level DA's as well as wix, wordpress blogs that seem like they are the bottom of the barrel as far as links are concerned.
Is there any value to even having these. Is there a way we can quantify the value that these links provide. It is relatively expensive to purchase these packages, if the company can ensure DA50 posts is it worth doing that sort of this? Is it better to have a lot of a little or a little of a lot.

I agree with Will. I would stay away with these services as they can hurt you more than help you - especially down the road. My recommendation would be to look at PR services to help you get backlinks through PR outreach (not just doing e-releases).

Ah - I was more focused on the Fiverr side of things and your description of the kinds of links you are seeing come through. I don't have any insight into how the Hoth works or operates, or what tactics they use specifically...

Thank you for your response.
The Hoth is a Forbes 1000 company, so I have to assume they are doing SOMETHING right. Maybe they are building PBN's I'm not sure, but how would they survive if they were utilizing tactics that don't work?

Hi there. Unfortunately, I would err on the side of saying that not only are those links most likely not helping, but there is a significant risk of them **hurting **your performance.
In general, any links that you can just get in this fashion by purchasing them off a public forum with nothing related to any differentiation of your business are very much going to be links that Google is going to want to discount (at the very least - if not penalise).
The mention of "guarantee" in the second paragraph is a warning sign for me too - I'd advise you to dig into the actual tactics and know for sure what is being done in your name and for your website.
Having said all of that, as a general rule of thumb, because of the power-law structure of the web, a few very powerful links can be more effective than many weaker ones.

Difficulty getting relevant backlinks
I run a very niche blog on getting section 8 housing. I've had the blog for about 6 years and have paid attention to it on and off. For the past few months, I've been ON again. What's appealing to me is the amount of potential traffic the keywords have and small competition. I have knowledge on the subject. I've read Moz seo guides, etc... The problem is government sites rank high (understandably) or other sites that are nonsense / scams when you search 'section 8 application'. It's very hard to find active bloggers to do link exchange is with as the sites that rank high are trying to scam people and obviously I can't get government back links. I've tried reaching out to people with no avail. I think I have good informative content. All of my adsense goes to charity but at this point it's not much. I'd like to get it out there, white-hat style, but I'm having difficulty. Any suggestions (please be specific), on how I can target sites that would be relevant to this topic and not do generic back-linking (unless you think news submissions, etc will work)? Thanks!

How new website / blogs can earn backlinks?
Hi, As link wheels, link pyramids and paid links are penalized by google and the only chance to get back links is to earn them. My Question is that with a new website / blog, how a newbie with no relationships with established bloggers, can earn links? Because writing quality contents and detailed posts (e.g. more than 3000 words posts twice a month) still would benefits for those blogs having already traffic to share these contents and in case of new blog, due to very low traffic, it would take months or years to enter in the game. Please propose step by step strategy / plan / footprint for newly born website and marketers. Thanks

Building on Brand for a keyword heavy domain with bad backlink profile
The domain is keyword heavy think along the lines of "mountainbikes.com" and they are ranking ok for mountain bikes, however on inspection they have a LOT of poor quality back links and a lot of those links are anchor text phrases (and far too much of it!). A lot of people recommend building on brand in situations like this, however how would I go about doing this for a site without a branded domain name? In this case their is a company name but it's not the same as the domain name, would you simply build links using the company name "Uber Bikes" or use the domain www.mountainbikes.com. If the aim is just to build a more varied back link profile then I guess using both would be good? Thanks in advance! 🙂

How long before backlinks take effect?
In general how long would it take for Google to update the SERP after it found the external link activity? Does it depend on the website the link is on as? So for example, after it found a link on the BBC would the SERP update a lot quicker then after a link on a small blog? Maybe Google updates on a certain day?
