What is a good forum or resource to contact fellow SEO professionals for SEO partnership opportunities i.e. link trades?
-
While Moz is an excellent resource, i get the impression that it is for community-based SEO questions that can serve as a knowledge database. I am looking for a forum or resource where I can contact other SEO workers to explore link exchange opportunities. For example, i want to reach out to those who do SEO for audio/visual, technology, and event-planning companies so i can offer them links in exchange for some recommended links to my site. Before anyone dogs on link trading as being spammy and not best practice, it would only be done in a useful, relevant, and non-spammy fashion with other high authority sites.
Thanks!
Ryan

Eugh, sounds frustrating and I understand your reaction, good luck with the grind!

Thanks Robin. I would tend to agree with your points. I began with your traditional approach with reaching out one by one to great sites. I got approved for a guest post to EventBrite with a DA of 93. It was written, approved, and everything and then they blew me off. So I just felt defeated and got lazy. Back to the grind I guess.

Hi Ryan, at risk of giving the answer you said you didn't want - If you're looking for link trades I would consider approaching this from the opposite direction. To avoid being completely unhelpful I'll take as given that, as you say, the activity would be useful to users, not spammy, and only with high-authority sites.
On a forum like the one you describe, the vast majority of people looking for link exchanges won't have that same criteria as you. They are more likely to be spammy, particularly if they are openly looking for these kind of link exchanges, one or two isn't going to make a night-and-day difference so they'll be trying to collect as many as possible and will quite likely be putting all the links on their site just on a directory page. So if you find one of these forums, you have the task of sifting through a group of people who are probably much more focused on spam, finding the ones in your industry, then checking their sites to make sure they are on the level.
Given that you already have an industry in mind, it would probably make sense to cut out that first step of going to a link exchange forum, which would probably just muddy the water anyway and start by looking at the sites you'd like to be featured on. Then from there you could look at what aspect of your offering or content they might like to link to, or whether there is some kind of partnership you could do together. The nice benefit of this is it's not just increasing links to your site, it's also helping grow your brand awareness and network which is much more valuable than just a link exchange.
Hope that helps!

Did you see Search Engine Watch remove links to sources on an article about websites scared of outbound links?
I saw this over on reddit and was curious if anyone else saw this article and noticed the same thing? http://www.reddit.com/r/bigseo/comments/38jgro/sew_quotes_me_and_others_on_a_topic_about_sites/ http://searchenginewatch.com/sew/opinion/2411268/the-collateral-damage-of-google-s-link-policy The irony here is pretty great. Thoughts on this?

How do I find a great SEO Mentor?
I've had good experiences growing with Mentors. I don't mind paying the high rates as it has always left me with a good return. What I'd be looking for: Someone to give me direction Someone to correct and provide advice on a strategy that I have come up with Someone to provide answers when I'm stuck Someone that I can grow with It would help if the mentor has good knowledge of and can help with how social media, blog writing, email marketing all ties in to a good SEO campaign. Ultimately we want to be able to help our clients reach more people any way possible. With this I feel I can take the next step and start offering these services in a way that works for our business and more importantly allows us to meet the needs of our clients. But finding an SEO mentor is proving harder than I thought. So does anyone have any tips on where to find a mentor? Who is actually doing it now and would be a good option? And what would the rates be? I was thinking in the $100-150 range. Is this reasonable for an SEO mentor? Any help here will be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

SEO Ads On Third Party Job Sites?
Hello all, I seriously doubt I will get a reply to this as I'm guessing no one has experience with it. if you do though then I would appreciate any information either via comment or PM. Basically, I need to know how I can improve the rankings of job posts within the third party sites. An example would be totaljobs.com, how can I improve the rankings of advertisements that are posted there or is it simply ranked by date and location?. When I had my eBay business, I did a lot of research on eBay SEO and discovered some important factors for ranking within the eBay website. I'm basically wanting to do the same here on job board websites for job ads posted to them. Their algorithms won't be as advanced as Google etc so I'm guessing if they do they will be open for higher keyword density levels and that kind of thing.. I've googled it quite a bit and can't find any information at all on it. Thanks.

Local SEO Practice: Creating a Fictitious Business?
Has anyone tried fabricating a fake, brick-and-mortar store as an SEO experiment? Sort of along the lines of what Starwood is doing (check out this Wikipedia experiment with the Test Galaxy Sheraton), but with a legitimate physical address and all? Was it useful? And are there any potential legal troubles that could arise from borrowing a vacant address? I'm thinking this could be helpful for my Intern to gain practical experience in local SEO, without the politics of working for a client But I wouldn't want to blight that address for future occupants if the experiment went horribly awry. We could instead offer pro bono services to a small business with a limited web presence – that would be useful to her, and constructive. But I'd like to have a better understanding of what signals Google looks for when deciding whether to index a website in local search, and see whether possible to dupe those algos. What are your thoughts, Mozzers? .

Does Server Speed Effect SEO Rankings?
I was told by a website developer that Google ranks sites higher if they are hosted on faster servers. Is this true? For example my site is currently limited because it is a Quick Shopping Cart site hosted by Godaddy. He said that if I hosted my research chemical site with a different company with faster servers I could get better ranking immediately. I linked to my site. I think it loads ok. However Godaddy probably isn't the fastest service around.

Does hreflang help international SEO?
I have a very large US based website and series of European sites which are very new and therefore have very limited inherent equity. my US collegues have suggested using alternate language headers: In my opinion this should significantly help the SEO of the new European sites. Does anyone have any experience with this tag? Thanks for your help in advance 🙂
