Why No Goal is recorded in Google Analytics
-
Hello,
I am not sure if i made an error. Can someone please point out.
On our sales form, when a user submits the form, the URL displayed is -
I created a Goal like this -
1 ) Under Goal set up, i choose Template option
2 ) Under Goal description, i choose Type > Destination
3 ) and finally, in Goal details field,
destination equals to /thank-you-2/
But, no Goal is being tracked.
In the first step, should i have selected 'Custom' instead of 'Template'
Thanks
-
To be honest, I always do everything custom and it has been years since I touched the templates but yeah by default I create such goals as a custom destination based goal
-
Thanks for helping me out. I will try the fix as mentioned by you.
"As it's a destination Goal, i though Goal set up should be Custom rather than Template"
What about this one. Don't you think that Goal set up should be Custom rather than Template.

This is kind of a dirty band-aid / hacky fix, but I'll try to help you out
For some reason your GA is writing your landing pages wrong e.g:
/resources/x-y.com instead of /resources/
So surely this means, that if you put in the destination URL into your GA of:
/thank-you-2/x-y.com
... then GA will be able to track that URL
I mean, ideally you'd want to fix the fact that GA is writing the URLs wrong. In the short term; if you can't do that, go with it instead of fighting against it. It might just work (for now)

Thanks effectdigital. I was anxiously waiting for the answer.
The landing pages are written like this in GA interface -
/resources/x-y.com
/support/x-y.com
Website URL is - https://x-y.com/
x-y.com is being added after every landing page URL (i checked this is because of incorrect default settings. )
The default URL is - x-y.com
So, should we ask the client to remove this setting. Will the Goal will be tracked correctly.
As it's a destination Goal, i though Goal set up should be Custom rather than Template.
Thanks

What you have tried should work, though obviously if your landing pages are being written incorrectly in the back-end of GA that could mess with things. If tracking is not present on your thank-you page, again that could cause a problem. Another issue you may face, is that your IP address may be exempted from tracking (or your browser may be setup to deny tracking). If either of those things are true, then obviously you can't use yourself to test the tracking (unless you use a VPN and a fresh browser). Another thing to remember, goals are not tracked in real-time. You would likely have to wait until the next day to see goal values increase (or at least several hours)

Whats (Other) traffic in Google Analytics?
When I look through all our clients, a few are receiving the majority of their traffic from (other). [ Acquisition > Channels > (Other) ]. The only option in (other) is "website" or "offline", whatever that may be. And even weirder, the avg session duration is 0:00. Any idea what this may be?

Discrepancy between FB PPC and Google Analytics
This question was answered in 2011 here: http://moz.com/community/q/facebook-ppc-number-of-clicks-according-to-fb-different-than-visits-in-analytics. Wanted to post it to the community to see if anyone had any new thoughts in the last 3 years. I have been running campaigns on Facebook and seeing dramatic discrepancies between Facebook and GA's numbers. For example, I ran a Facebook ad campaign for a chiropractor where FB shows 35 clicks to the website, but GA only shows 2! An attorney ran a Facbook promotion, got 4 clients who actually filled out a questionnaire online, but GA only showed 2 visitors exiting off the form completion page. Is this because the users did not have JS/cookies enabled? Something else? What is the recommended work around? Tracking URL?

Google Analytics tracking code for completely new website
Hello! I use Google Analytics to monitor our company's websites. In the coming weeks we will roll out a brand new website for one of our brands to replace its current site. The domain name will remain the same. My question is, should I use the same tracking code that's been used on the existing site for the new site, or is there a benefit to creating a new tracking code? Thanks in advance!

What's the difference between landing pages and entrance pages on Google Analytics?
I'm confused about the difference between entrance pages and landing pages on Google Analytics. If I compare our search traffic to entrance pages with search traffic to landing pages it seems very similar -- but not identical. But this is probably because all of our GA analytics is sampled (we're a huge site). Can anyone help?

Google Analytics Best Practice Set up for Clients
Hi When setting up new Google Analytics accounts for clinets what is the preferred/best practice. At present we have our own company google account and add new clinets this way (to our account) - the disadvantage with this, we can only grant them limited account access otherwise they would be able to view all the accounts we cretaed. Plus we can't link their adwords to the GA account we cretaed them. Is it best practice to set the client up with their own Google Account and then we just link to their account. Advise would be appreciated, thank you.
