Hi folks,

I'm looking for an SEO extension for Magento 2 that enables me to add Custom Canonical URLs on any page (especially on category pages).

Any advice would be appreciated greatly!

Hi Joe,

Thanks very much for your reply. This is the extension that we've purchased earlier for this purpose and going to refund it as it turned out that custom canonical URLs can only be implemented on the product pages but not on the category pages with this extension...

Migrating Customers Off Domain, DO NOT Want to Pass Ranking Signals

Hey everyone! Thanks in advance for any help on this. I work for a SaaS company that has all of our customer apps and assets on our company domain. This has resulted in a lot of backlinks pointing to our domain, and a lot of pages indexed as well. I'm working with product to migrate all customers onto a separate domain, but a concern is that we need to still move the customer content to the new domains somehow without passing any of this backlink info. Am I correct in my assumption that if we 301 all of the apps and assets, all of that backlink info stays the same? What would be the best way to do this? Could we 302 everything and then wait like, 30 days and delete the 302? Would that still fix the problem, or does all of that backlink data "stick" after the 302 is deleted? Any additional thoughts would be extremely helpful!!

Is a canonical tag required for already redirecting URLs?

Hi everyone, One of our websites was changed to non-www to www. The non-www pages were then redirected to avoid duplicate issue. Moz and Screaming Frog flagged a number of these redirected pages as missing canonical tags. Is the canonical tag still required for pages already redirecting? Or is it detecting another possible duplicate page that we haven't redirected yet? Also, the rankings for this website isn't improving despite having us optimising these pages as best as we could. I'm wondering if this canonical tag issue may be affecting it. Thank you.

Non-Canonical Pages still Indexed. Is this normal?

I have a website that contains some products and the old structure of the URL's was definitely not optimal for SEO purposes. So I created new SEO friendly URL's on my site and decided that I would use the canonical tags to transfer all the weight of the old URL's to the New URL's and ensure that the old ones would not show up in the SERP's. Problem is this has not quite worked. I implemented the canonical tags about a month ago but I am still seeing the old URL's indexed in Google and I am noticing that the cache date of these pages was only about a week ago. This leads me to believe that the spiders have been to the pages and seen the new canonical tags but are not following them. Is this normal behavior and if so, can somebody explain to me why? I know I could have just 301 redirected these old URL's to the new ones but the process I would need to go through to have that done is much more of a battle than to just add the canonical tags and I felt that the canonical tags would have done the job. Needless to say the client is not too happy right now and insists that I should have just used the 301's. In this case the client appears to be correct but I do not quite understand why my canonical tags did not work. Bots gone from site for 1-2 hours

Hi everyone, From the beginning of March bots and crawlers begin to disappear from site completely for 1-2 hours and then come back again. It never happened earlier, they constantly crawled our site without stopping. We didn't make any changes on the site. After that pages and images start to disappear from G index. Does anyone have the same trouble?

Rel canonical = can it hurt your SEO

I have a site that has been developed to default to the non-www version. However each page has a rel canonical to the non-www version too. Could having this in place on all pages hurt the site in terms of search engines? thanks Steve

Canonical efficiency

Hi, I'm creating recommendations for one of my client's site. It's a news site highly based on a regional aspect. One of the main features would be that you can navigate on a high level, we call it inter-regional (with all the regions news) and on the regional level (with only news related to the region) which act as a filter which means that most of my content will be duplicate. To allow the user to navigate the site on the two levels means that all the news pages will be duplicated, one with the inter-regional URL and one with the regional URL. Example: http://www.sitename.com/category/2011/11/07/name-of-the-article http://www.sitename.com/region-name/category/2011/11/07/name-of-the-article The regional URL is the official one, since it has all the keywords I want, and I'm planning to have a canonical on both version with the regional URL. Is there a risk that this would affect my ranking? Any alternatives? I read that I could prevent SE to crawl inter-regional articles using my robot.txt but I'm not fond of that. Thanks!
