Quick wins for new page
-
Hi! I recently put this page live for a new client targeting the term 'hospitality IT' in the UK.
http://www.antana.co.uk/hospitality-IT.html
I've done a bit of guest blog writing and the page is currently #10.
There are very links to the site overall, and only a handful to the page itself. Should I focus on building links to the root domain or the page, and is there any other quick changes I can make to give it a boost?
Thanks!

Some great tips here! Thanks guys. Regarding guest blogging, I've had some pretty fantastic results. My tips are to make sure the site is REALLY relevant and don't use keyword rich anchor text.

no I don't think it is worth it. If a very well respected blog that rarely has a guest blogger that invites you then maybe. but some blog that is easy to guest blog on, I very much doubt it. It is my opinion that SE's will see it much like a directory.
any link that can be self obtained is not what search engines are looking for. they are looking for links that are awarded to you from others. I think it more likely getting a penalty for unnatural link profile either by algorithm of manually.
Think like a SE, if you see a blog that has many blog articles by guests linking back to a mismatch of sites would you think it a good way to judge the quality of those sites?
In 2013, this is my strategy.
Clean code with perfect crawlability.
Perfect internal linking, no redirects, broken links see http://thatsit.com.au/seo/tutorials/a-simple-explanation-of-pagerank
Using html5 tags and schema.org Show the search engine exactly what you want them to see, what is layout, what is content and such.
with links, get quality links if the opportunity ever comes, but don't force them, let them grow naturally.

Hi Alan,
Are you saying that guest blogging is not worth it? I hear all over the web from authority SEO's that guest blogging does work very well, just depends on the quality.
Thanks.

I doubt if your guest blogging will help, links that are self obtainable are rarely if ever of any worth.
I can tell you that you have 75 broken links each one wasting link juice, you also have a canonical problem with your homepage. You can access your home page thought 3 urls http://www.antana.co.uk
http://antana.co.uk
and if I click on your logo I go to http://www.antana.co.uk/index.htmlPage rank is flowing from your home page thought your internal links and most of it ends up on http://www.antana.co.uk/index.html
Change the internal links to pit to either http://www.antana.co.uk or http://antana.co.uk then 301 redirect the other 2 urls to the one you choose to go with.

The web page is already reasonably quick, but there are a couple of quick changes you can make to make it even quicker, and as we know page speed can be quite an important ranking and conversion factor.
Looking at the GTMetrix report for your page, you can see that you can utilise browser caching and gzip compression. If you go to the recommendation, click on it, click "what does this mean" in the top right of the box and then click more - you'll get detailed instructions on how you can make the changes, which are relatively simple.
As for links, I'd build some directly to the page where applicable, but don't neglect the root domain, as its link equity will pass to your internal pages with the site structure that you have.
Hope this helps.

Page Authority inherited by domain
Hi there, We (blog.fust.ch) created our blog at the same time as (blog.interdiscount.ch). We're both blogs of big brands in switzerland. But there is one big different. The interdiscount blog ranks much better than we do. But they not even optimize the blog for standard SEO points. Now i found the reason i guess. They get the complete page authority of the brand interdiscount.ch inherited. How is that possible, because we don't..? (Screens in attachment) Best regards Sandro K7zxz ndODO

Category pages
I am a very basic question on managing categories in WordPress. We have an Android website, and we cover news, rumors, tips and tricks about new devices. We have been creating categories for the new devices or at least for the popular ones which are launched every year, and link to them internally with the hope that it would improve the page authority and ranking. For example, we have a category page for Moto X, another one for Moto X (2014) and one more for Moto X (2015). One of the reasons for creating a category was to ensure that it is easier for readers to get information about a particular device rather than going to a category page that has information about all the models. However, the problem with their strategy we're now realizing is that it means we have to build page authority for the new category page from scratch, which can take time. So we are thinking of reusing the same category for multiple models. So reuse the Moto X category page for Moto X (2016). However, we are not sure if it would be right approach as we would be linking to the same category page with different anchor texts. So while it would be good to reuse a page rather than rebuild the page authority from scratch, would we be diluting the authority for the main keyword by using it for different models. I would love to hear your thoughts on how we should be handling categories and internal links in this case.

Removing pages from index
My client is running 4 websites on ModX CMS and using the same database for all the sites. Roger has discovered that one of the sites has 2050 302 redirects pointing to the clients other sites. The Sitemap for the site in question includes 860 pages. Google Webmaster Tools has indexed 540 pages. Roger has discovered 5200 pages and a Site: query of Google reveals 7200 pages. Diving into the SERP results many of the pages indexed are pointing to the other 3 sites. I believe there is a configuration problem with the site because the other sites when crawled do not have a huge volume of redirects. My concern is how can we remove from Google's index the 2050 pages that are redirecting to the other sites via a 302 redirect?

How to rank product pages?
Hi guys, Please advice me on something improving my product pages ranking. We are doing well for head terms, categories but not ranking for product pages. We have issues with product pages which I am think is hard to tackle. For instance we have duplicate products (different colors), duplicate content internally (colors) and from manufacturer websites. Product pages linked from sub-category i.e. Home > Category > Sub-Category (20 per page) using pagination for next 20 and so on. Product pages linked internally via widgets that says other Similar products, featured products etc. Another issue with our product pages is that we are using third party reviews platform and whenever users add reviews to product pages this platform creates an hyperlink to different anchors which is not relevant to product. Example - http://goo.gl/NUG652 Can somebody please give some advice on how to improve rankings for product pages. writing unique content for thousands of pages is not possible. Even our competitor not writing unique content.

Drop in indexed pages!
Hi everybody! I've been working on http://thewilddeckcompany.co.uk/ for a little while now. Until recently, everything was great - good rankings for the key terms of 'bird hides' and 'pond dipping platforms'. However, rankings have tanked over the past few days. I can't point my finger at it yet, but a site:thewilddeckcompany.co.uk search shows only three pages have been indexed. There's only 10 on the site, and it was fine beforehand. Any advice would be much appreciated,

How is it possible to 301 specific pages to a new domain?
The old site is small, only 100 pages or so, and about 10 of them are particularly useful. I would like to 301 those 10 pages to 10 similar pages on the new site, and also 301 the other 90 pages to the new site... the new site's home page, I suppose. Does it make sense to do this and if so how? I think if I simply 301 the whole of the old domain to the new one, the juice will be shared among the new site's page equally which is not what I want. I know where the htaccess file is and I can 301 a page within a domain but I'm at a loss with this. Thanks for any help. EDIT: I'm hoping for something like this: old.com/page_1 >> new.com/page_A old.com/page_2 >> new.com/page_B ... and 8 more of those And then the other 90 pages: old.com/Remaining pages >> new.com/index

Page URL Issue
Hey Friend, I am having sort of a problem. I currently have a subpage with the url of: /musclecars/ I also have a subpage at /muscle-cars/muscle-car-restoration.html Obviously my main url is not listed here. My problem is I am trying to rank for the term Muscle Cars but the first URL does not have the keywords seperated so I rank no where. If I type MuscleCars into google I rank though (but nobody types the keyword in like that). So my question is can I create muscle-cars.mydomainname.com and rank well with that? Or is it better to just use mydomainname.com/muscle-cars/ even though that second term I am ranking for already has that in its url?
