Open Site Explorer results are not satisfactory.. is there any issue with it?
-
Hello Folks,
I am trying to check back links of one of my competitors through Open Site Explorer, but the results it is providing is not satisfactory.
Competitor URL : goo.gl/xMXHk7
Results provided by OSE :
Number of Internal Links : 23
Number of External Links : 100
While the external backlinks provided by other free tools are quite different and more in numbers.. and here I am paying to get accurate data..
Just wanted to confirm whether I am using this tool improperly, or any issue is going with this tool?

Hey,
Some great answers already. I just wanted to chime in real quick.
When you are trying to compare metrics between companies, make sure that you're comparing the same metrics. Often times people will look at the page specific metrics in OSE and then compare them to the root domain metrics in other services. This is inaccurate and isn't doing you any good.
The url in question has 2532 total links in OSE. I checked in in Majestic -who has a larger index because that's their primary function- and found that it had 3652 total links. So Majestic does have more because that's what they do.
If you aren't satisfied with the links in OSE, I would recommend combining our tools with a dedicated back link service since we will unfortunately miss links and/or leave low quality pages out of our indices.
Thanks!
Joel. -
Honestly, OSE can't really crawl all the pages on the web. Moz itself is not a provider of backlinks alone but a package service, tracking, crawling, monitoring.
For more accurate backlinks, I'd suggest using AHREFs, or Majestic. You will get much more accurate and updated data. I prefer to use AHREFS but to each his own.

Every backlinks tool - Webmaster Tools, Majestic, AHREFs, OSE, etc. - will give you different results because they all have their own index. You can't rely on one to get a complete picture. The best method is to get backlinks from as many sources as you can, compile them in one list, remove duplicates, and then start reviewing.

How can I get links indexed in Just Discovered Links, or Open site Explorer? (Because it aint Bit.ly or Feedly!)
Dear Moz & Forum, I've been on a bit of a merry-go-round with one of my clients. He knows enough about SEO to ask questions, and one thing he likes is to see the links that we are building inside Open Site Explorer. Now, of course we know that it takes a while for links to show, but that was ok, because we could just plug the links that we've built into a bit.ly link and then they'd show under Just Discovered Links in Open Site Explorer, and then boom, we're happy. It stopped working some time ago, and after the support team were a little unstuck I sent a hopeful tweet to @randfish. Here is the response: https://twitter.com/randfish/status/788412272129347584 The advice to use Bit.Ly was removed swiftly after this! Oops! The current Guidance is here: https://moz.com/help/guides/research-tools/open-site-explorer/justdiscovered It says: Want to see your new link in the Just-Discovered Links tab? An easy way to start seeing your link in the Just-Discovered section is to have it shared on Twitter and available on Feedly link. Feedly stopped supporting their own link shortner a few years ago. Also, when you share a link from Feedly on twitter it is just the same as sharing a normal tweet, because it shares the standard URL for the site not a link to view on Feedly. Or, maybe these two statements are independant of one another and they should both be done separately? I've done that too! I've also added the feed to recommended feeds inside fresh web explorer and that didn't work either! So, Moz and Help team please help me! How can I get links I've built for clients into Just Discovered Links? Thank you!

Open Site Explorer -> Just Discovered -> Internal Links: Only shown 1 url link per day
Hi, We have a page that have like 10-15 new content/pages per day.
Link Explorer | | Inspiringinterns
eg. domain.com/post-id-01/, omain.com/post-id-02/, omain.com/post-id-03/ etc
But somehow, under Just-Discovered, internal links only show 1 per day when it suppose to display like 10-15.
The layout for each pages is exact same except for the content changes and the url's ID changes. Our competitor on the other hand, they have like 5 new page per day, but somehow Moz shows their internal links as 25 per days. Each of their new url have 4 more prefix number.
Eg:
new-page-01?track=990
new-page-01?track=991
new-page-01?track=992 etc
The above example url is technically as 1 page if without the "?" affix. Whiles all our new pages/url have unique id, but Moz only show 1 a day. Please advise on how to get Moz to shows all the new pages in Just-Discovered (internal link). Thanks, Cam0 -
What happened to my links in Open Site Explorer.
Hello, A while ago I had a problem with open site explorer saying that I had a problems with redirects on my home page. There was 302 redirect and it was giving me information from my www domain rather then from non www domain. With your awesome help, this issue is sorted now and when I type in my non www domain, it doesn't give me that weird message anymore. I have a different issue now. For some reason when I enter non www domain it doesn't show links from www version. I presume that this is affecting my site authority for non www version. Does it mean that link juice was not passed on to non www version from www version? Authority dropped by two points, but I'm not sure why. I'm more interested to know why it doesn't show my links from www version on non www version. And is that affecting my sites rankings. Thank you, Regards, Armands

Hi folks Recently (about a month ago) we launched a new website. However, when I use Open Site Explorer and look at the "Top pages" tab, old URL's which no longer exist, appears in the list. Is there some way to get around this? Thanks.
