SEO Priorities for Ecommerce Sites
-
Hello All!
What is the best way to rank SEO tasks by PRIORITY for Ecommerce sites to improve??
It can be quite overwhelming with all the types of projects/tasks needed to improve organic rankings...
How would you rank the most CRITICAL tasks to spend the MOST TIME on to the tasks you spend less on.
Appreciate your input in advance
Thank you!
Mark

Just out of curiosity, I checked out your website also. You may want to consider toning down the keyword placement on the homepage! If you run the homepage in the Moz grader for "wicker furniture" you will see that it suggests that you may have overdone the keyword mentions. This may adversely impact your search rankings and I noticed you have much better stats in terms of link authority than the pages ranking on the bottom of page 1 for the term. May help!

No problem! Best of luck.

First and foremost on page and on site optimization. Fix any issues with duplication (especially an issue with commerce site that may be multiple pages with products under different urls/categories) and optimization the product pages so they are properly and specifically targeting the primary keywords. ie. if you are selling Nike basketball shoes model XYZ, you want that reflected throughout the product page! Use the Moz on page grader to fine tune.
That can be an extensive process, but I would do that first and then start link acquisition outreach and content asset generation!

Splitting One Site Into Two Sites Best Practices Needed
Okay, working with a large site that, for business reasons beyond organic search, wants to split an existing site in two. So, the old domain name stays and a new one is born with some of the content from the old site, along with some new content of its own. The general idea, for more than just search reasons, is that it makes both the old site and new sites more purely about their respective subject matter. The existing content on the old site that is becoming part of the new site will be 301'd to the new site's domain. So, the old site will have a lot of 301s and links to the new site. No links coming back from the new site to the old site anticipated at this time. Would like any and all insights into any potential pitfalls and best practices for this to come off as well as it can under the circumstances. For instance, should all those links from the old site to the new site be nofollowed, kind of like a non-editorial link to an affiliate or advertiser? Is there weirdness for Google in 301ing to a new domain from some, but not all, content of the old site. Would you individually submit requests to remove from index for the hundreds and hundreds of old site pages moving to the new site or just figure that the 301 will eventually take care of that? Is there substantial organic search risk of any kind to the old site, beyond the obvious of just not having those pages to produce any more? Anything else? Any ideas about how long the new site can expect to wander the wilderness of no organic search traffic? The old site has a 45 domain authority. Thanks!

SEO impact when micro site are hosted on third party url
Have a look at this url

http://www.bekkevold-as.no/.
On the front page they are providing links to a website created by one of their suppliers. (Three cirkle icons in the middle of the page).
The links make the customers leave the site and open on a different domain, even the branding of the page is for Bekkevold Elektro (see log top right)
The question from me: How will this impact the SEO for Bekkevold Elektro. Would it be better to create a subdomain for Bekkevold Elektro and ask the supplier to point to this? Or is it ok to leave it as it is, having links back to the web site for Bekkevold Elektro? Just changing the target of the link to open in a new window.
Thank you very much for your support on this. I would appreciate any suggestion for improvement for my customer, Bekkevold Elektro. Best regards

SEO for Metasearch sites like KAYAK or Trivago
Interested in getting some opinions of best practices for large dynamic sites? My main question is, should we be focusing on a different "strategy" if we have a similar type site or does the same principles still apply? Second question is would building a blog presence in our community be a better strategy than trying to get our dynamic pages to rank? If there is a great step by step or white paper resource anyone could recommend, would be greatly appreciated, as our technical team is just diving into SEO. If anyone cares to take a look, our site is SupremeGolf.com

SEO Checklist for eCommerce?
Over the past week or so, my eCommerce site has experienced a large drop in organic traffic from Google.I have used analytics to determine that the pages that have seen the biggest losses in traffic are product pages. I know there are so many seo checklists/site audit checklists out there recommending different things, but does anyone have a good checklist (or link to a good checklist) that would fit our situation best? Thank you!

How important is the HTML structure for on-page/on-site SEO?
To be more specific, say a page layout has Header, Body, Left Sidebar, Footer sections. Which layout from the following options is more SEO-friendly? Header > Body > Right Sidebar > Footer Body > Header > Right Sidebar > Footer Does it make a big difference to code HTML so that the the copy of the body appears in front of all other sections when spiders crawl a website? Is it worth taking extra steps to make this happen? I am asking this question because our site has a header navigation with a lot of dropdown menus. So I assume that this is "noise" for spiders as it pushes the main content of the page down. Please bear in mind that the question is more geared towards how search engine see the page rather than how it appears to the end user as layout can be controlled by CSS.This question also assumes that all other on-site SEO best practices are followed for both options.
