Keyword in alt tag and future G Updates
-
Hello,
I notice that it is common practice to put the page's keywords directly into an alt tag.
I don't see how this helps the user and how it helps the user using screen readers and such.
Do you think future G updates will slightly penalize pages with alt tags that are just the page's keywords and not a helpful phrase? What do you recommend to put in alt tags in light of future G updates?

Hi Bob,
It probably wouldn't be hard for Google to go after sites with over-optimized alt tags - although I'm not sure they would think it's worth their time.
What I generally do with alt tags is try to describe the image and if possible, include keyword(s) naturally. If you're picking out relevant images for your site, this shouldn't be too hard, but I wouldn't try to stuff keywords into every little icon.
For example, if you have a computer repair website and the main image on your homepage is a technician working on a computer, you could use "computer repair services" as the alt tag, or if you wanted to be really descriptive, "technician repairing computer" wouldn't be bad either. But you probably don't want to force a keyword into a phone icon next your contact information.
The point of alt tags is to describe images that search engine bots can't see. So as long as you are being descriptive and not stuffing keywords for the sake of stuffing keywords, you should be fine.
Hope this helps.
Tim

I suggest writing for the reader.
1. if its for the reader you keep them on said page
2. write for the bots, the bots may bite.

Does Google and Other Search Engine crawl meta tags if we call it using react .js ?
We have a site which is having only one url and all other pages are its components. not different pages. Whichever pages we click it will open show that with react .js . Meta title and meta description also will change accordingly. Will it be good or bad for SEO for using this "react .js" ? Website: http://www.mantistechnologies.com/

Search Console Incorrectly Identifies WordPress Version and Recommends Update
Howdy, Moz fans, Today I received four emails from Google Search Console recommending I update WordPress. The message reads, "Google has detected that your site is currently running WordPress 3.3.1, an older version of WordPress. Outdated or unpatched software can be vulnerable to hacking and malware exploits that harm potential visitors to your site. Therefore, we suggest you update the software on your site as soon as possible." This is incorrect, however, since I've been on 4.3.1 for a while. 3.3.1 was never even installed since this site was created in September, 2015, so the initial WP Engine install was likely 4.3. What's interesting is that it doesn't list the root URL as the problem source. The email states that it found that issue on a URL that is set up via WP Engine to 301 to a different site, which doesn't use WordPress. I also have other redirects set up to different pages on the second site that aren't listed in the Search Console email. Anyone have any ideas as to what's causing this misidentification of WP versions? I am afraid that Google sees this as a vulnerability and is penalizing my site accordingly. Thanks in advance!

Keyword stuffing?
Hi Guys, I'm working on an site which faces some ranking problems. Although some of the problems have been mapped and will get fixed in the future I’m wondering if you could give me an second opinion on the amount of keywords used on the website. Although the texts reads “OK” I’m wondering if the site could experience negative influences of the amount of keywords used. Website: http://premium-hookahs.nl/ Main keyword: waterpijp / shisha Besides the general keyword the secondary keywords get used a lot on category and product pages. I would love to hear your opinion!

Keyword Specific Domain | Outranking trend
Hey everyone, i looked for a similar question but didnt found anything. Ive been having a lot trouble competing with other websites that use the "exact-keyword" domain (www.keyword.com), then they just stuff some mediocre content and rank 1-3 in Google SERP for that keyword I wasnt worried before because i thought they were going to be penalized or decreased in ranking. But they bought several keyword domains and outrank everyone in almost every word. Their conversion rate cant be that good because of the mediocre content, but still i dont like the fact that they rank better just because of the keyword. Any comment on this? , what would you do? Regards

Any hope After a G slap
I was hit very hard in the last Google update. Yes, i was building links. Before i started doing that, i was earning $1 a day despite having a very good blog. i saw my income rise to $3000 a month over the last year. Now I'm back to $1 a day. I have suspected it was coming for the last two months because of the things Matt Cutt's has been saying. Worked hard to avoid it but not hard enough. i stopped using blog networks after Build my Rank got hit. I've been using another tool known as ABC3000 or Automatic Backlink Creator. Its not automatic. 😉 That's the tool that got me the rankings and that's the tool that took them away. 🙂 I've removed all links from the tool now. Yeah, I know its a bad sign to loose 10,000 links all at once but Google already knows so the best thing to do is get ride of them. ALL of my sites were hit, not deindexed. I'm seeing minus 30 and minus 100 penalties. One of the websites has 10,000 + Pages. I've got one on page issue that revolves around my forum, vBulletin is causing a massive amount of duplicate page titles. I don't know how to fix that. It looks like each post creates a new page with the title of thread. I plan ot move it to another domain but I'm fearful of doing that. I'm not sure how. I will research it. But the Google slap is massive and I'm really wondering if I have any hope of restoring a site with good content and good social signals with good engagement. A TRUE bounce rate of less than 30% was higher before the slap at about 23%. I have an average of 4 to 5 minutes per visitors. All my stats look great except 1. That's SERP results as of April 24th, also known as my personal dooms day. haha Trying to keep my head up but it is starting to get hard now. Thanks for the help, Rusty

Improve CTR with Special Characters in Meta-Description / Title Tags
I've seen this question asked a few times, but I haven't found a definitive answer. I'm quite surprised no one from Google has addressed the question specifically. I ran across this post the other day and it piqued my interest: http://www.datadial.net/blog/index.php/2011/04/13/special-characters-in-meta-descriptions-the-beboisation-of-google/ If you're able to make your result stand out by using stars, smiley faces, TM symbols, etc it would be a big advantage. This is in use currently if you search for a popular mattress keyword in Google. It really is amazing how the special characters draw your attention to the title. You can also see the TM and Copyright symbols if you search for "Logitech Revue" Radioshack is using these characters in their adwords also. Has anyone found any definitive answers to this? Has anyone tracked CTR and long-term results with special characters in title or description tags? Any chance of getting penalized for using this? As a follow-up, it looks like you could also put check symbols into your meta-description tags. That has all kinds of interesting possibilities. http://www.seosmarty.com/special-symbols-wingdings-for-social-media-branding-twitter-linkedin-google-plus/
