Paid Search Referral
-
I have a brand new site with a paid search referral in my G&A, but we are not running any adwords or any paid marketing for it. The referral is "not set" so I do not know where it is coming from.
-
It went to our Taleo Careers page. It is weird that it was only one out of a few hundred. The referral path is also not set.
-
Also, it is worth mentioning that it depends on what Google Analytics report you are looking at. Sometimes the value will be set to "(not set)" if you are looking at the keywords that drove traffic to the site for each traffic source, and in that case, any visit that did not come from a keyword will be (not set), such as referring sites since they obviously did not come from a keyword...
-
Hmm, typically (not set) means AdWords is not correctly linked to the Google Analytics account. But as you said, you are not doing AdWords or any paid marketing. Can you dig in to see what the landing page was? Or where the visitor was located? That may help clear up some questions. Also, here is more information from Google - https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/2820717?hl=en

Weird referral data. Spam?
Hi all, a few of my sites are suffering from referral spam. I read a couple of articles here on how to exclude them from your traffic using htaccess but today I was going through some referral stats of the company I work for and I noticed a lot of referral traffic coming from prod2.ssosecure.com I didn't find any article telling me this is spam, so it could also be an intranet of one of our clients where they are sending their employees to our application. Anybody a clue what this could be?

Something does not add up with WMTs search analytics data
we recently replatformed our main site and switched to https. For the first 2-3 weeks after we moved organic traffic was great, we did not lose any ( increased a little), but then it dropped off significantly. Attached is a screenshot from one of our main keywords that dropped off. You can see click (blue) and impressions (red) dropped off, and the position became unstable, but in the last week it has stabilised to about the same position it was before, but the clicking and impressions are still very low. The keyword is generic (for our industry) and there would not be any major seasonal changes in the search volume. I can't make sense of this data, could be be wrong? Kd3p5f9.jpg

Is Google doing anything about the spam referrer plague in Google Analytics?
My client manages 15+ websites and we have observed the spam referrer issue has gotten steadily worse and worse in the last few months. I took the time to weed out the worst offenders via traffic filters but our referral traffic source garden was quickly full of weeds again a few weeks later. Does anybody know what the Google Analytics development team is doing to combat the spam referrer issue? I find it quite amazing that Google goes through the asinine effort to block out organic keyword data ("not found" & "not provided) but they don't seem to care about blacklisting/filtering spam referrers. Referral exclusion not working with GTM?
Hi, how are you?
Reporting & Analytics | | arielbortz
I have my website with Google Tag Manager implemented. Google Analytics is one of the tags I have configured. The problem is that Referral exclusions aren't working for me. I excluded 3 domains, and I keep seeing them in my Referral Traffic report.
Any idea why this could be happening? Best wishes,

Reasons for drop in URLs Receiving Entrances Via Search
Hi I'm having trouble understanding why I'm getting the results I am for my organic traffic data. I've been focussing on a few keywords throughout my website and the most recent results show that there is a big increase in the Organic Search Visits and the Non-Paid Keywords Sending Search Visits for both Branded Keywords and Non-branded Keywords, but the results for URLs Receiving Entrances Via Search are the complete opposite. Down by a few percent. I don't understand why this would happen and was hoping that someone could maybe explain and give a few reasons for why this is happening and maybe give some tips on how to stop it from happening in the future if possible. Thanks.

Search for signed in users
"As search becomes an increasingly customized experience, particularly for signed in users" What does this imply ? Does it mean that search is more customized for signed in users than those for non signed in users ?

Google Analytics - paid & unpaid visits messed up
I guess Google Analytics messes up my paid and unpaid visits. In the list of top 10 kw's sending non-paid traffic it shows 5 very short kw's that we don't rank for at all (checked with RankTracker - we are not in first 50 search results). But these are the kw's we advertise for... One more proof: Webmaster Tools 'Search queries' shows 10 times less 'Clicks' from organic search than Google Analytics. Is there anyone who is experiencing this kind of problems with GA? Is there anything you can do with it?
