No progress in 4 months in a non-competitive area !
-
Hi SEOs
We are a SEO and Web Agency based in Cholet, France. We have this client (Alpage Choaille : www.alpage-choaille.fr/) for now 3 months, we have done all of the on-page optimization so far but can't get ANY progress on all of the 15 keywords tracked.
This is not a competitive area, and we are looking at "local" rankings ( chalet beaufortain, gite beaufortain, gite en savoie, gite de charme, chalet de charme).
We haven't done much OFFSITE, and we can't see any links on Open Site Explorer or Moz as this site is not part of their database.
Many thanks in advance for your help.
Best Regards,
Benjamin

Hi there,
I'd echo the points above regarding on and off page, especially off page: a poorly optimised site from an on-page perspective can gain rankings based on its great backlink profile. A perfect website with perfectly optimised pages will not rank if it does have links.
Have you engaged in any link development during the fours months? Along with looking at the points Erwan raised, I would look at the backlink profiles of your competitors in the area and decide on a 12 month goal for how many links you need and from which types of sites. Have a look at the link development category on the Moz blog for years worth of good ideas as well.

1/ "This is not a competitive area"... It depends :).
Your homepage title is "Gîte en montagne - Chalet - Savoie | Alpage du Choaille d'en Haut"
"gite en montagne" "gite savoie" "chalet montagne" "chalet savoie" are quite competitive in terms of SEO or SEA.
It you want to target "beaufortain", you should include it in your page title.
2/ Average #1 ranking = 2000-2400 words. Your text = 200 words.
3/ As Matt-Antonino explained, you lack of authority ; you need more links... and more anchors text relative to your keywords.
4/ As far as I'm concerned, I would add a blog to talk about the area, to explain why it's great to stay there and what you can do, testimonials, videos etc.
Is there a way to do great content and to get a few natural links ?

You have 7 total links on this site. There's no authority built - you need to actively attempt to figure out offsite SEO. The onsite is a bit thin but the offsite is holding you back.
Hint: start with TripAdvisor.

Hi Martijn, No worries for french its one hell of a language to master it
Regarding Page Optimization, I took the example of the Home Page :
Home : Meta Title Gite en Montagne - Chalet - Savoie
H1 : Alpage du Choaille d'en Haut - Un Gîte en Savoie
H2 : Bienvenue au Gîte Choaille d'en Haut
H3 : Bienvenue à L’Alpage du Choaille d’En Haut !
Footer : Gite en montagne beaufortain d'exception
Body : Keyword "dans ce gîte montagnard" x1
Too many variations on "Gite Savoie" Maybe, I guess ?
Many Thanks

Hi Benjamin,
My French is terrible so I must have missed something probably. But when I check the keywords you provided against the site and it's pages I can't find any keyword in the META title of these pages. That's one of the basic on page elements if you want them to rank only based on, on page factors.

After 301 redirection non-English keyword points to English language pages
We had multilingual website on .co.uk domain and somewhere in April, we've done 301 redirection from domain1.co.uk pages which were in Polish language to domain2.com/pl domain and now for some Polish keywords Google SERP sometimes shows English pages (.com) and sometimes polish pages (.com/pl). Previously co.uk/en had English content and that got redirected to .com. What could be the reason? Thank you for all responses.

Changing from www to non-www impacting page authority?
I moved my website in May from Wix to Wordpress. Since then the home page authority has dropped from 27 to 16. The old website displayed as www.ajlansell.co.uk, but the new site is set to ajlansell.co.uk without the www (this was set by my hosting company). I tried changing the settings in Wordpress to www.etc, and the home page bounces back up to a page authority of 27 - but it messes up the menus and some other elements on the page so that the page is not displayed correctly. Is there any other way I can get that page authority back? Thanks.

Opinions on leaving Non-SEO Pages without a H1
This one is pestering me and i am on the fence, so i thought i'd ask the trusty Moz community for their opinion. I am running a technical / onsite audit for a client who has quite a pretty, creative and animated homepage with lots of overlaid imagery. As its primarily imagery, including their glossy typography and clickable links, the page does not have a H1. Now i know this goes against best practice, however it's unlikely the page will ever be served as an SEO landing page (in current format), so what are people's thoughts on leaving as is without a H1, considering we are not going to try and ranking the landing page for any particular keywords. Let us know your thoughts! Thanks

http://www.domain.com/blog/title-of-blog I need to do redirects in htaccess from the old structure to the new structure but I can't seem to get it working properly. Here is what I have thus far.
RewriteEngine on RewriteBase / RewriteRule ^(.0-9)\/^(.0-9)\$ $1/ [R=301,L]
Any suggestions?0 -
Index / Monthly Click Number
Hi,
On-Page Optimization | | HypermediaSystems
This is a general question, so sorry in advance if inappropriate. Once I was told, in large scale EC / Forum Site,
the following number should be around 1,
and if it is below 1, it is a good sign ... Google Indexed Page Number / Monthly ( 30days ) Click Number I was told this is just a general idea, and real world situation varies, then
if you don't have any standard, this could be a start. (not dogmatic rules, just reference) Does this sounds about right? or do you have any other formula? I was tasked to do the site wide SEO, and diagnose the general state of SEO-wellness/fitness..
and right now, the number is 1.5, so I am about to report we can do more to get more SERP presence or something... If you guys point me relevant blog article / Q&A forum, I would really appreciate. Thanks!0 -
Should I buy an established domain that has lost it's high PR due to being offline for several months?
I'm considering purchasing a domain that has sat idle for several months. It was a company's domain that they have owned since the mid1990's but they went out of business. Previously, it had a PR 5 but has since lost it's PR as it has sat 'inactive' with a 'server not found' warning for the past several months. That being said, is there any point in buying the domain (for SEO purposes)? Is there any recourse with Google to try and re-establish the site's credibility or would I be starting over from scratch?

Duplicate content on area specific sites
I have created some websites for my company Dor-2-Dor and there is a main website where all of the information across the board is on (www.dor2dor.com) but I also have area specific sites which are for our franchisees who run certain areas around the country (www.swansea.dor2dor.com or www.oxford.dor2dor.com) The problem is that the content that is on a lot of the pages is the same on all of them for instance our faq's page, special offers etc. What is the best way to get these pages to rank well and not have the duplicate content issues and be ranked down by search engines? Any help will be greatly received.

How to publish periodic reviews in a month, year, etc basis?
Hello, in many niches you can make reviews with the "Best XXXX of March of 2011" "Best XXXX of April 2011" " March 2012" etc So, per instances, "best movies of march 2011" what would you do? A. 1 post for each mont and year /movies-march-2011/ /movies-april-2011/ /movies-march-2012/ B. 1 post/page for each year and keep updating /movies-march/ /movies-april/ B.I. Keep in the content the best movies of each year with a TOC or something similar B.II. Remove each year the previous content and create a fresh version of the content, updating the publication date but keeping the slug. My question is because I managed to ranked first for i.e. movies march 2010 but then in march 2011 I didnt know what to do because I wanted to show updated content but I was afraid i lost my ranking if I changed the whole content. Would you go for A. or B.? If B. for B.I. or B.II.? Thanks and regards
