How Can I intreptret The Crawl Report Resulst?
-
Hello,
I am new to Moz and I have received 2 crawl reports. The first one was ok.
I made a few changes to my site plugins, and my next crawl report came up with 41 4XX errors.
Basically, a lot of my posts. I went back to my plugins and saw the following plugins:
404 redirect plugin & Utlimate Tiny MCE
I reactivated both. I am presuming that these must have caused the issues or maybe my site was hacked.
I re ran a crawl this morning, but I don't know what the different headings mean or how to understand the report.
Can anyone advise?
My site is new and just started to go up the rankings...so quite disappointed with this set back.
regards
Chriss

Thanks for the comments.
I got onto Hostgator and spoke to them for 2 hrs. We disabled all plug ins and then enabled them again.
They upgraded it to php 5.4, then back to 5.2...then back to 5.4
They said there was no issue....but after all that it seemed ok (!?).
It seems to be ok now.
Thanks for the input!

Hi There
So were you getting 404's on your posts themselves? Or 404 errors on weird/extraneous pages? I should mention that 404 errors on extraneous pages will not hurt your search rankings. But it is an issue that should be worked on.
The report has a LOT of different headings, which in particular would you like definitions on?

Hi Chris,
welcome to Moz.
So you change your plug-ins and return to your plug-in dashboard and you could see the 404 redirect plug-in as well as ultimate tiny MCE?
You reactivated them believing that your site was possibly hacked and that is how the plug-ins got there? Or that they were deactivated that way?
What matters is did you put the plug-ins in yourself should they be there?
To check your websites security if it has been hacked you can simply put the URL into this site and it will tell you at no cost if you have been hacked.
if you find out you are hacked then use the Sucuri USD80 a year protection and cleanup offering. It is well worth it they will clean up your site as many times as hacked.
If you want to add more security to your site I would recommend their cloud proxy firewall http://cloudproxy.sucuri.net/signup
is it possible that your 404 redirect plug-in was somehow disabled due to another user or a hosting provider? Who is your hosting provider?
If you have placed this on your site and they should be there make sure the both activated. After you do the site check and make sure there is no malware on your site.
Keep the records that Moz has provided for you as far as 404's
if you are using a premium WordPress hosting company you can call them as well and they will do the redirects for you.
if you are not hacked reactivate sites current 404 redirect plug-in
if you are using Nginx ask your hosting provider to make the changes but most of them prefer that you go ahead and make the redirects and send them to him.
Or if you can make the redirects for self simply using this fantastic tool
https://yoast.com/wp-content/permalink-helper.php
in case you want more information about it you can find it at this link
https://yoast.com/change-wordpress-permalink-structure/
take the broken links and redirect them to a page that would be relevant to the 404 page after that check the site using.
https://moz.com/researchtools/crawl-test
if you want to double check your work and your site is less than 500 pages download the free copy of
Use screaming frog SEO spider

you can also check online for free up to 1000 pages using

&

if you are having trouble with your sites security and completing 301 redirects I strongly recommend using a managed WordPress hosting provider a company like get flywheel Web synthesis offers free redirects for their customers. WP engine and Pagely are excellent hosting companies and you can save a lot of money using Moz perks WP engine has their own 301 redirect system built-in Presseble is also a fantastic value.
that works with Yoast the reason I bring him up is if you just want to get a better 301 redirect plug-in he does have a premium 301 redirect plug-in that is fantastic
https://yoast.com/wordpress-seo-premium-1-1/
https://yoast.com/wordpress/plugins/seo-premium/
if you are not looking to spend money on a plug-in or hosting check out this free plug-in I think it is better than the 404 redirect plug-in you are referencing.
http://wordpress.org/plugins/redirection/
Below is a list of 404 redirect plug-ins I would say Yoast is going to be the best then by redirection both plug-ins will allow you to make changes using Nginx or Apache if you are for some reason not able to make redirects because you are running nginx and were making redirects for Apache you can simply use the

http://wpmatter.com/top-5-wordpress-301-redirection-plugins/
If you use a high quality hosting company you can ask them to make the redirects if you use a non-managed hosting company you are responsible for making the redirects.
Managed WordPress hosting companies that I have mentioned all give you three malware protection and they will hack your site if it is hacked.
If you want high-speed sent to save money digital ocean VPS is with Yoast WordPress premium SEO used for redirecting along with Sucuri cloud-proxy WAF make a inexpensive extremely high quality server. However at USD15 a month you could also go to get flywheel and not have to worry about what I just talked about.

Reworked the keyword strategy - affect on reports
Hello, We're ditching our current keyword strategy and starting over. The reports have been running for about 3 months though. Will our ranking reports factor in those keywords that have been removed? We really only want to see where are campaign is from the new starting point. Or, do I just need to narrow the time frame on my reports. Any advice is appreciated! Thanks!

Is there a way to export all your crawl errors for multiple Moz campaigns at once?
We're looking for a simple way to export all crawl errors for our Moz campaigns. More than likely we could use the API, but was wondering if there was any functionality already built into Moz for exporting all crawl errors.

How can I print out the keyword ranking chart?
I have been working diligently on these keywords. Not a lot of them but trying to get very specific. I have one that has traditionally been very high for our site and in one day it dropped from 2 to past 50+ when I reviewed the history I was unable to find any place to print or download the graph for the history or any place to print a report for our keyword rankings.

Why does the moz crawl test lists page twice?
Hi, I'm running into an issue where some crawlers list my pages twice, once with a trailing slash, once without. I first saw it on a few pages with screaming frog, then saw it happen on all my pages with the moz crawler. The site is www.kidsandart.org and its on Squarespace. I grepped the sitemap.xml I submitted to google webmaster and got 167 distinct pages, all of them without a trailing slash. Any insights on why this is happening, and how to regard moz crawler results would be appreciated. thanks Tom

Given that I am currently using a bot sniffer...How can I identify the MOZ bot in order to whitelist it?
MOZ is currently blocked from crawling my sites because I use a bot sniffer. Does anyone know how I can properly identify the MOZ bot in order to whitelist it? MOZ is using Amazon web services and thus employs thousands of dynamic IPs to crawl.

Duplicate Page Content Report on MOZ
Hi, I am just wondering as to the accuracy of this report - does it pick up all the duplicate on page content? Or is there a limit? We have an ecommerce store with a lot of copied and pasted descriptions - just wondering if there is a limit on how much the moz crawler picks up? In other words, once we fix what MOZ has detected, will there be more detected because it is limited to display say up to 200?? Hope you understand what I mean. Thanks
