HELP! IE secure page display issue on new live site
-
For some reason IE 7, 8, & 9 do not display the following page: https://www.jwsuretybonds.com/protools.htm
All they show is the Norton seal. It shows properly in all other browsers without issue (including IE 10+), but the earlier versions flash the page for a split second, then hides everything.
Can someone shed some light on this? This is a new live site we just launched minutes ago and these browsers account for 12% of our overall traffic.
UGH I hate you microsoft!!!
Thanks all

you are also using Apache 2.2 instead of 2.4

you're not running updated software on your server at all I would start by doing that. Then I would tackle the problems at hand most likely there connected.
I hope this is been of help,

Update WordPress
your host contegix should not have any trouble. Helping you fix this problem long as the company that sold you the SSL.
I see that you are using a older version of WordPress 3.6 that is pretty old considering where at 3.9.1 now
Please update your WordPress installation so that we can rule out bugs that have probably caused issues like this.
Two things you can do to make this easier use a CDN to employ the SSL
Or use couldproxy.sucuri.net
I would look at using a security oriented hosting provider that will be more hands-on for updates.
I run Firehost and simply submitted one ticket in the beginning asking them to update my WordPress plug-ins as well as WordPress itself they have done so without issue to this day.
I found it by far the easiest way to implement SSL Certs is through a content delivery network but you might find it easier to do it another way. I hope this is of help.
Below is an outline of what your site is running I also added a link but I do not know if you are not a member if it will show you what I could see so I pasted it below.
Sincerely, Thomas

I removed the Norton seal code and now it's displaying properly!!!
Any idea why the Verisign code would break it?
-
When I remove Google's re-marketing script, it only displays code from Norton

Thanks for the response Khem!
I added the meta code, but it didn't make a difference.
I may have found another piece of the puzzle. When I do a view source in IE, I get the following:

First off you don't need to worry about the IE, most of the people have stopped using IE only because these issues. Check the following Browser Statistics and Trends
2014 (April)
Chrome 58.4%
IE - 9.4%
FF - 25.0%
Sarari - 4.0 %
Though, if you're still concerned about your website IE compatibility, you might need to use some IE hacks as you would be using some attributes or features which IE doesn't support.
I found a solution to a problem wihich is something similar to your issue:
"Modernizr can help, especially if you're using newer things like html5 and css3. Another thing that can help is boilerplate code, I personally like the html5reset.
One particular thing from that is going to help you a lot: if I look at your site in IE it says it goes into Quirks mode, making IE7, 8, and 9 behave... well... quirky Place the following meta tag in your head section to improve things for IE:
<metahttp-equiv="x-ua-compatible"content="ie=edge,chrome=1"></metahttp-equiv="x-ua-compatible"content="ie=edge,chrome=1">
You can see what "Browser Mode" and "Document Mode" IE is running in by bringing up the developer toolbar (F12), you can tweak it temporarily for your browsing session to see what happens if document mode is "IE9 standards"."

Is having a site map page necessary?
Hello all! So I know having a sitemap XML file is important to include in your robots.txt file. I also know it is important to submit your XML sitemap to Google and Bing. However, I am wondering if it is beneficial for your site's SEO value to have a sitemap page displayed on your website? Or is this just a redundant action if you have already done the above two actions with your XML sitemap? Thanks in advance!

Google tag manager on blocked beta site - will it phone home to Google and cause site to get indexed?
We want to develop a beta site, in a directory with the robots.txt blocking bots. We want to include the Google Tag Manager tags and event layer tracking code on this beta site. My question is that by including the Google Tag Manager code, that phones home to Google, will it cause Google to index this beta site when we don't want it indexed?

Thoughts on our Agency Site
Hi all, We'd all welcome opinions on our digital agency site http://www.newbrandvision.com/. We are in the planning stage of launching a new site; and we'd welcome any UX or SEO thoughts. It's a strange one but our agency has been around since 2002, and we operate in the heart of London; however we don't rank anywhere near the first page for "digital agency in London" or any long-tail /semantics around this. We feel that it's pretty clear from search and when landing on the site what we are; but would welcome any general thoughts as to why we aren't ranked that highly. Much appreciated!

Site structure- category pages
Hi, I'm relatively new to SEO but have tried to apply all best practices to my site. However, I've hit a stumbling block when it comes to whether or not to index my category pages. http://istudyenglishonline.com/category/expressions-idioms/ General info: the site has been created with Wordpress and has a directory of English idioms. Each idiom is associated with one or more categories that it falls under (emotions, sports, food etc). Each category has its own page where the list of idioms will be. As each idiom often has more than one associated category, the same idiom will appear in different category pages, thus creating duplicate content. However, I have given each category page its own unique description. The issue is, when there are numerous idioms, the category page will have more than 1 page. I don't have the ability to create a unique description for each subsequent page of the main category. I know that the very model for some vertical search engines (such as indeed.com) is to create such landing pages and that the more "categories" that they have assigned to their job ads, in this case, the more pages created and the more pages indexed in Google. This seems to work very well for them. My question is, am I doing things right? Should I be doing anything to the subsequent category pages to avoid duplicate content? My plan was to have so many idioms associated with so many categories that I have a fair number of landing pages indexed in google, thus attacking the long tail keywords. However, I'm not sure if I am going the right way. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Sub-pages with more links than homepage - bad?
Hi,
Web Design | | rayvensoft
I am working on merging a number of my niche websites into a larger site (301 redirects, phased in over a few months). My question/concern is whether google will penalize the main site when it sees that the homepage has almost no links to it, and that about 10-15 sub-pages have a lot of links back to it. Does anybody have experience with this kind of scenario? Will it create a problem? Theoretically I could spend a year or so building up links to the new main page - building the brand - before doing the 301's. The smaller pages still bring in clients, but it is getting hard to maintain that many micro sites. Thanks in advance for any help.0 -
Flag page elements to not be loaded by Instapaper and co.
Does anybody know if there is a way to mark certain elements (especially navigation menus) so that instapaper and co don't pull them? I'm looking for a quick solution (best would be if it was CSS based) nothing fancy like parsing the user-agent. That would be plan B. I've added role="navigation" id="navigation" and class="navigation" to the nav elements in hope that it would work. Seems like it does not; sometimes the elements are present in the page generated by instapaper, sometimes not. Thank you for any replies and have a great day! Jan

Are my duplicate meta titles and descriptions an issue ?
HelloMy website http://www.gardenbeet.com has been rebuilt using prestacart and there are 158 duplicate title and meta descriptions being reported by google. My developer advised the following Almost all the duplicates are due to the same page being accessible at the root and following the category heading. e.g; /75-vegetable-patio-planter-turquoise.html
Web Design | | GardenBeet
/patio-planters/75-vegetable-patio-planter-turquoise.html This is hard-wired into PrestaShop. Was the Canonical module (now disabled) responsible for the confusion by not including the category name? The Googlebot shouldn't be scanning the root versions now. I don't believe this to be a serious issue but I'd recommend a second opinion from someone more SEO savvy just to be sure.Opinions??0
