Do http:// links to a http://www. site count the same to Google?
-
In terms of links to one's site helping your position on Google, if your site defaults to http://www.example.com (automatically adds "www." even if it isn't typed), does Google count links that appear as http://example.com (without the www.) with the same "weight"? Thanks.

Thanks for all of your help!
-
That looks great!
-
Thanks for the suggestion. The results I got looked encouraging if I'm reading them right (never used that tool before)
HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently Date: Wed, 22 Jun 2011 05:55:04 GMT Server: Apache Location: http://www.example.com/ Content-Type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1

Jacob, Celife does mention that there is a redirect in place. Right now we're just determining if it is a 301 redirect.
-
Thank you.
-
Thanks. My sites/webmaster tools have been configured as such for awhile but I'm unsure if the "link juice" will remain as strong for old links that are going to http://example.com (it would be time-consuming to track down and request the addition of www. to old links so I'd like to avoid it if possible).
-
I would need to look online at a reference myself to see if that's accurate.
One thing you can do is go to http://www.seoconsultants.com/tools/check-server-headers-tool/ (or your favorite search results for server header checker) and put in your non-www URL and see the server header code that is returned.
-
Thanks, Keri. I'm using the following code in .htaccess to redirect to the www version. Do you believe this will "keep the juice'? I believe new links will link correctly but I was curious about old links that may be going to http://example.com
RewriteEngine on
Options +FollowSymLinksRewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^example.com
RewriteRule (.*) http://www.example.com/$1 [R=301,L]RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^[A-Z]{3,9}\ /([^/]*/)index.html?.\ HTTP/
RewriteRule ^(([^/]/))index.html?$ http://www.example.com/$1? [R=301,L]

If that automatically adding of the www is done by a 301 redirect, most or all of the link juice should pass. It also makes it so that if the user copies and pastes the URL from the address bar, they're getting your preferred version there, and are thus less likely to link to you with the non-www version.
-
The comment posted twice, sorry!
-
There are a couple of things you should do:
-
In Google webmaster tools 'Site Configuration' 'Setting' set your prefered domain (generally the www version).
-
On your website configuration set up URLRewrite or a 301 redirect from site.com to www.site.com
-
In the head section of each page include a fqdn to inform search engines there is NOT duplicate content and all juice should pass to the www version of the page.
-
-
This is typically seen as two different websites. Most people will 301 redirect one to the other to keep visitors from going to the wrong place and to preserve link juice.

Why does Open Site Explorer list SEOMOZ forum links so high ?
When I was checking my back links in Open Sight Explorer I was surprised to see that because I have asked three questions recently here on the forum about my business website www.endeavourcottage.co.uk and they are now listed near the position 3 to 5 Of course I was not putting my business website link on their with the motivation of gaining some SEO benefits but when you get these no follow links do they have any usefulness in that direction? I read that say no follow links have no link juice so is any beneficial aspects? I It wouldn't be the ideal situation to encourage that kind of activity, but if they have no value at all why does Open Site Explorer list them? seo.JPG

Article submissions for link building- what sites do you still use?
Hey Everyone, Long-time SEO'er first time poster here. I've been doing SEO for around 5 years but since starting my company The Search Ninjas last year I've been so bogged down with client work that I feel like I'm starting to fall behind on what's still effective from a link building perspective since all of my clients are local businesses and since we've been focusing so much attention on Google Places. My question is- are there any general article sites that you still use for SEO since the Panda update last year (that you firmly believe still offer "juice"), or do you mainly focus on niche sites and guest-blogging? I'm looking for ideas regarding how to find content submission opportunities for clients for link building purposes. I'm familiar with Ontolo and the Whitespark Link Prospecting Tool in terms of ways to find opportunities (and of course cherrypicking competitors' links using OSE and SEOSpyglass), any other recommendations? Best, George ps clients are in legal niche for the most part if that helps you out, but this is mainly me looking for everyone's general opinion.

Is it worth me considering a reciprocal linking request to my authority site ?
My web site is www.swimmer.co.uk it sells waterproof mp3 players & is the authority site in its niche I have no out going reciprocal links I don't have advertising or encourage reciprocal linking as I thought it may devalue the sites quality & link juice I have had a reciprocal link request from a swim wear based website called www.onlyswim.com that has a reciprocal linking sub-page with many varied links on it that are not just on the subject of swimming I don't think I will get any direct traffic from this website so I was wondering if ts worth me agreeing to a reciprocal link page I think we both have a PR of 2 **Any comments would be much appreciated ** In research to try & answer my own question I have just read this on wikipedia "Reciprocal linking between websites is no longer an important part of the search engine optimization process.Google and other search engines now do not give credit to reciprocal linking as it does not indicate genuine link popularity."

Links from Domain Portfolio Advertising Sites
I recently purchased a domain from a someone with a large portfolio and my site's link is still found on thousands of his one page/low quality sites. I find these links on Open Site Explorer but not in WT. Should I ask the portfolio owner to remove the link from his low quality domain advertising sites?

Will No Follow Links count toward your root domain links for Domain Authority?
I am wondering if no follow links help, hurt, or do nothing when it comes to increasing page and domain authority? I know they are not supposed to pass rank and I have read discussions that some people suspect they still might, but I am wondering if I have a mix of follow plus no follow, will the no follow ones increase the count of the root domains linking to me and help boost my authority? Assuming of course the no follow links are coming from quality sites with high page and domain authority of their own. Thanks.

Should You Avoid Links from Sites with Big Difference Between PR and MozRank?
If a site has a Google toolbar PR of 2 and a Mozrank of 5, does that most likely mean that the site is penalized and a link would probably provide little value. I know that Google rarely updates toolbar PR so I suppose the site could have also earned a lot of quality links since the last update. Thanks Mozzers!
