Sitemaps Updating
-
Im using wordpress and I realise that my sitemaps doesnt update itself when i add an additional page on my website, like a blog post.
I have to go to (1) setting > xml sitemap setting > click on build sitemap > save changes in wordpress, and then (2) Export the sitemal.xml file it to webmaster tools in google every single time i blog.
Am i doing it wrong? i feel that all these should be automatic.

As long as you submit the URL to your sitemap there it will pick up any changes.

How about google webmaster? I still have to manually export sitemap.xml and upload the newest version to google webmaster right?
-
Yeah, it shouldn't be like this but it's probably due to the plugin you're using. Best would be to kick off the new year in style and start using the WordPress SEO plugin by Yoast. It will automatically take care of updating your sitemaps whenever you post new content. On top of that you could also filter out individual posts if needed.

Planning to update my Volusion site to HTTPS protocol. Concerns.
I'm planning to update my Volusion Commerce site to https protocol. A config variable switch will config urls to become secure https urls. I'm looking into what additional steps I must take and issues that I may run into. I guess any relative links within my site will not be affected but how about incoming backlinks. How do I address this. Also concerned about previous redirects. Do I have to create a new xml file incorporating the new protocol in the target and a version of both secure and insecure source urls. I figure a new sitemap has to be submitted to Google Search Console - should there be a secure https://www.example version as well as a https://example version of site and older similar http versions submitted. Thanks Howard

Does this mean each page does not have its title , or metatags?, Is this bad for seo?. Many of these pages have only a paragraph of text. I also am making a sitemap which links to the pages as a normal page. Would this mean I have a duplicate content issue with seo?.0 -

Our urls for adwords are slightly different from current urls presented on site (weused htaccess to help create shorter urls). How important is it that the adwords url match the sitemap url for keywords on those pages?
Hello, We have dynamic urls that we have made into short urls through htaccess and code manipulation. Some of our adwords urls are different from our page urls - for example a) Latest version of page www.abc.com/x-y-z.html b) Previous version of url www.abc.com/x+y+z.html c) raw original version www.abc.com/yyy/zzz?category=X&Product-code=Y etc etc. Would my ranking for keywords on the page improve if I diligently made all of them the same? They all go to the same page even now, and no 404 errors or anything. Thanks Sam

Updating Old Posts
I have ~ 45 posts that I wrote 2-3 years ago that need to be updated with current information and I'm wondering if I should: Just update them Update them and change the date published to present day Publish the updated info. as a completely new post other? ... and why. I've read so many conflicting thoughts on this, really curious to hear what other Pro members think (or would do if it were them). To give a little more background, the topics of the posts are various retirement communities. Things that may have changed could be they added new amenities, new home types, prices, number of homes still available, etc. I have one page of my site that acts as sort of a directory linking to an article(post) for each community, but worried if I add all the updates as new posts I'll have to link to separate articles about each community which doesn't really make things too friendly for the reader. They want to know about what's going on with each community now...not back 3 years ago. Thoughts? Suggestions? Many thanks! Ryan

Sitemap generator and /index.htm
I use DMX Zone sitemap generator in Dreamweaver. When generating the sitemap, it includes both http://www.domain.com and http://www.domain.com/index.htm. Should the /index.htm be deleted from the sitemap, or will the 301 redirect take care of that? Best,
