We have set up our H1 to contain the product name - it used to be our Company name all the time - would this affect our sales
-
We noticed recently on our site - that our H1 tag was the Company Name - we changed this to be the product name - our products would be searched for by all or part of the description.
Our sales have dropped of the days since we changed it, could it be a result of this change ?
Is it best to have the H1 tag as the product name ?

Hello Li Chu,
Did the display on the page change? For example, are people now seeing the product name in a different place / font? It's really difficult to predict what can happen to conversions when major changes are made across an entire site. It could be a conversion rate optimization issue if your traffic has stayed about the same but sales / conversions have dropped.
If traffic dropped it could be something entirely different, as discussed by others.
Generally speaking, yes the H1 on product pages should be the product name. The H1 on category pages should be the category name - those both of these can be optimized.

As John said, your H1 would normally be a page focus phrase, but I would also like to know if it was sales that dropped as a result of a drop in the SERPs, or is it just page conversions?

Hey Li,
Honestly speaking, I really don't think only H1 caused your traffic and sales dropped. There is something that you are missing out. For instance, you might need to see the Live/Dead links ratio of this time frame to get the better idea or the kind of links you build in this period.
Check out this previous thread on the importance of H1 and see the response of Christy Correll in this regard,

Hope this helps!
Thanks,

Firstly why did you change your H1. Were other changes made? Usually your H1 would contain your most important keyword.
However you are effectively saying that you changed it to your most important keyword and traffic dropped - or did sales drop? Slightly confused.
That said did you change the font or any aspect of the relevant information. need some more data.
The easy solution is to change it back and monitor traffic & sales. Watch for further changes all other aspects remaining constant.

Product Schema & Google Guidelines
Hi We have product mark up on our site, data-vocab rather than schema. I can't see it showing in Google SERPs, but when testing it appears to be correct. Are Google still selective with what schema they show for a site? Thanks

How to rank product pages?
Hi guys, Please advice me on something improving my product pages ranking. We are doing well for head terms, categories but not ranking for product pages. We have issues with product pages which I am think is hard to tackle. For instance we have duplicate products (different colors), duplicate content internally (colors) and from manufacturer websites. Product pages linked from sub-category i.e. Home > Category > Sub-Category (20 per page) using pagination for next 20 and so on. Product pages linked internally via widgets that says other Similar products, featured products etc. Another issue with our product pages is that we are using third party reviews platform and whenever users add reviews to product pages this platform creates an hyperlink to different anchors which is not relevant to product. Example - http://goo.gl/NUG652 Can somebody please give some advice on how to improve rankings for product pages. writing unique content for thousands of pages is not possible. Even our competitor not writing unique content.

Product Descriptions for a product with many designs
I'm a newbie with SEO and I have a question regarding product descriptions. Let's say I am selling 100 dog id tags. The tags are all made of same materials, same size, just different designs. Now for the product description, do I need to write a different set of description for all 100 tags? This is an example of a short product description(there's more) for all the pet tags: Personalized with 4 lines of information and 20 characters in each line. Lifetime guarantee - If your pet ID tag ever becomes illegible, we will replace it free of charge. Solid one-piece construction - No glued or ""sandwiched"" materials to wear out or fall apart. Split ring for collar attachement included with EVERY tag. Countless uses - School backpacks, luggage, fashion accessories, and many more! All of the above information pertains to all the pet tags. Can all my product descriptions contain that information, or will I need to modify this 100 times for each individual pet tag? I read up a lot on duplicate content so I am slightly confused. Will this hurt my SEO? Thanks, Keith

Is this a Correct Time to Use 302 Redirects?
Hi Mozzers! We are going through a rebranding process, and as of this morning we have 3 domains, all with identical content. For example (not real domain names): www.fantastic.com
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | Travis-W
www.fantasticfireworks.com
www.fireworks.com We are using 3 domains to ease the rebranding transition. We currently only want people to visit 'www.fantastic.com,' and if they visit the other 2 domains we want them redirected. Since we will be using these other domains eventually, should we use 302 redirects instead of 301s? The other domains are new and do not have any domain authority or sites linking in, so we do not need to worry about link juice. Does it really matter what type of redirect we use? Thanks!0 -
Using abbreviations in URL - Matching Keyword
We have a website that uses /us/, /ca/, /va/, etc for URLs of the different U.S. states. How much better is it (or is it at all better) to use /california/ or /virginia/ instead in our URLs to rank for searches that include the name of those states?

We have multilingual eCommerce websites with some content variations but majority of the content remains the same We have used rel=alternate hreflang on corresponding ccTLDs respective countries. for example on example.com -which is the oldest of these sites- we have used Now should we also use link rel="canonical" href="example.com" on all ccTLDs? What are the advantages and disadvantages of using it?
