First 100 links for every new site?
-
Is there a rule of thumb I am unaware of or a place that others start to get links for every new site they create, something like the "first 100 links for every new site" regardless of content?
I know you always start building links around what the content of your site is about, but does anyone have a rule of thumb that you always start with links from certain sites regardless of the site content. For example for a local company: Google Places, Bing Local, Linkedin, Facebook, Localeze etc. etc.
I just want to make sure I am taking quality first steps for every site I start and was wondering if anyone could give me some good rules of thumb or resources.

Hi Steven.
Depending on the type of business and geography it caters to, I generally advise clients to start at local and branch out. This helps establish your business as a bonafide, real business with a physical location. I believe it helps build significant trust. Be sure to align your phone numbers, physical business address and other details (synchronization) between profile accounts.
In terms of links always build the most authority links you can first. For obvious and unobvious reasons. Authority links build trust faster and allow more cushion in terms of both profile build rate and the types of links you can build moving forward.
Also, more trusted links in my experience actually help improve the weight or other links in parallel in the campaign when built correctly.
Hope this helps,
Todd

HELP! New Link Building
Any recommendations on where to start with link building for an automotive dealer site? Our ultimate goal is to drive traffic to the inventory pages and increase lead submissions. Should we build links to new and used inventory? Also, any recommendations regarding anchor text would be extremely helpful! Thanks in advance!

Link on Every Wordpress Portion of My Site?
I have a website that is pretty popular with good SEO rankings. Part of the site is ran with Wordpress (homepage, articles and static content pages), another part is the forums using vBulletin (probably 75-80% of the pages on the site) and I also have a directory using another software. I have a new website and was going to add a link to it on my older site on the sidebar of Wordpress across all the Wordpress pages. Should I stay away from that or just put it on the homepage? The text is basically "Come check out the new {keyword} site at {SiteTitle}, by the founders of {OldSiteTitle}. I would have the keyword and sitetitle linked over to the new site. Would I be hurting either site by doing this or should it be looked at as a natural link as I do own both of the sites and want to let people know about the new site.

Creating your own blog for back linking to your site
Our competitor seems to be linked to a blog that they have created themselves. From an SEO perspective is it worthwhile creating a blog that is related to your particular industry and then only including links back to your site. Also is there any way to upload ,articles etc automatically to the blog to cut down on the people hours involved in updating content?

I found a link to my customer's site with an over-optimized
I found a link to my customer's site with an over-optimized anchor text using the OpenSite Explorer tool, but when I opened the link, my customer's link is nowhere to be found. Here is the link Opensiteexplorer gave me: http://www.derbymadness.com/my-profile/demolition-derby-groups/viewgroup/12-web And here is my customer's link: 1896omalleyhouse.com The link is not on the cached version of the page either. Can anyone tell me how this might happen? Thanks!

Penguin: Carry On & Hope Or Start A New Site
I'm at a loss and no so-called SEO agency/expert I've hired appears to know the main causes of our post-Penguin downfall of our traffic. To set the scene, I set up a voucher code site (www.ozvouchercodes.com.au) in Australia 3 years ago and since, it's been growing very well up until Google launched the Penguin update in April. Having read as much as I could on the update my understanding is toxic links cause the slap. For on-site I've checked the site and tried to reduce keywords [spamming], increased [unique] content across the site and made sure there are as few instances of duplicate content as possible. To attempt to understand my back link profile I've used SEOmoz & Link Detective as the current SEO agency give me little visibility on this. It appears we're a little top heavy with 32% & 11% of are keywords containing 'coupons' and 'promotion codes' respectively. Consequently we no longer appear on those two terms but also hundreds of other terms we once appeared in the top 3 postitions. The Link Detective report downloaded also appears to have a number of back links with the words 'Penalized' and 'Banned' next to them. Unfortunately there is no explanation on Link Detective whether this needs action or not. My current SEO agency suggest that we have been too focused on a limited number of keywords and that a few more months of diversifying the range will solve it. So do I spend another £X amount for 3-6 months of SEO or drop the site on a new URL and start again. Any ideas? Any help is very welcome & appreciated. Henry

"gimme links" = easy to fill out profile/personal reputation links that offer a do-follow anchor text flexible link
I'm doing some SEO for small niche service sites...and aside from niche directories and some light article marketing and local search directories (yelp, etc) there really isn't a budget for content generation. I really only have a budget for profile/submission links. What are some sites where you can quite easily fill out a personal profile with an anchor text variable link that may not be THAT juicy but will stick (i.e. not a spam/fake profile type of link, but something like Linkedin). I'll start with giving away 1 www.istockphoto.com Any others that aren't obvious?

How long for SEOMoz to reflect new inbound links?
I have carried out some minor link building for my new site (site A) and have some links back from several directories and 1 from ezine and one from squidoo as well as a few partner sites and such. I also have another site (site B) which was linking to site A several times from a footer link, this has now been amended to just one link. The problem is that SEOmoz still only shows 3 linking domains to site A (there are at least 12 if you perform a manual search) and it is still showing many links from site B even though there is now only one. All these changes where made at least 3 weeks ago, how long before Seomoz picks them up.

Why does Open Site Explorer list Twitter and Facebook links for one of my sites and not others
One of my sites has the nofollow backlink listed for Facebook and Twitter while 2 other sites do not. All 3 sites have had accounts for over a year. Does the amount of interactivity with the social media profiles have to do with it? I know it is a nofollow link but I was just curious as those profiles might help with the brand signal etc.
