Can copyright links to your site have a negative impact on your SEO?

many of the websites we designed have a copyright link in the footer. Like:
webdesign by company name
then this is made a hyperlink to our company website.
Some of these websites have a high PR and other metrics but rarely are about webdesign.
What is a clever thing to do?

disagree with above posts. get some page juice to your site!
a) dofollow them
b) use branded term only (not your keywords)
c) put on homepage footer only, not global. If the footer is global, simply create a homepage-footer.php file.

Like William said, no follow is your best bet, especially on low quality sites that you might be associated with.
Another help can be making this branded anchor text, as in just <a href="">Company Name</a>.
In all reality footer links do next to nothing for SEO as they are considered low quality links on the site (being so far down on the website and often associated with other links such as a footer menu). They can easily appear spammy.
They do serve as another linking domain which is helpful, but the best way to attribute your work is to ask the site owner for a simple paragraph in the about us explaining the website, how it was built, and by whom. This provides a non spammy contextual backlink that is one click away from the homepage. This kind of link will provide much more SEO benefit than any footer backlink.
I will be transitioning a lot of my copyright style links to something such as this.

I'd suggest keeping all of them as nofollow. Although they may benefit your rankings or your link profile, Google can easily consider it as spam and penalize you for that.

The best option if the site is a good site, is to just keep one link on one page. That is if you really must.

The ones with a high Page authority or Domain Trust? What's a good metric, if any, to build this decision ?

"nofollow" them. This done in a large scale can really affect your rankings. Search WPMU.org

Is there a good website builder that can gain links?
I made the horrible mistake of using GoDaddy website builder and just found out that I have 3 homepages with a 302 temporary redirect on one of them. GoDaddy says I have only one homepage and no redirects which is not true as far as both Google Webmaster and Mozpro are concerned. I am not able to change anything structurally on the Godaddy site. Is there an economical alternative to having a website built that I can work with myself (with little knowledge) and that I can do some link building that will be effective. Multiple Links from High Ranking Site Vs. Links from Multiple Domains - What's More Important?
I understand it is important to get links from many quality domains. Currently, I do have links from top domains (PR, Trust) and it I can get more from (high rank) pages on these same domains. Would it be better to focus on expanding my reach (find additional domains to link from) or to continue to build links from the current domains I have a connection with? What is weighted more? I realize doing both is important, but trying to figure out how to best use my time. Thanks! David

Suppose you came across a website in your niche with solid domain authority that accepts guest posts. However you notice some of the guest posts are linking out to somewhat off-topic sites. Any good content sites with good quality links?
I have some content which is still relevant and interesting but not really suitable for my current websites. I have been thinking of using this on an article site to generate some links back to my sites, but I am wary about this due to Google's targeting of content sites. I currently have good PR's on Squidoo and Hubpages which link back and work quite well. Can anyone suggest any others or any ideas how to use this content for SEO purposes? Is using it for article submissions to get links short sited?
