Getting 404 Errors on Fonts After Website Redesign
-
Hi,
I recently redesigned my website and I changed a few URLs so I have been keeping an eye on 404 errors and setting up redirects as needed. However, my 404 error log keeps getting filled font related URLs like this:
<colgroup><col width="960"></colgroup>
/fonts/AvenirLTStd-Heavy.otf), url(/fonts/AvenirLTStd-Heavy.woff), url(/fonts/AvenirLTStd-Heavy.eot), url(/fonts/AvenirLTStd-Heavy.eot?
/fonts/FrutigerLTStd-Black.otf), url(/fonts/FrutigerLTStd-Black.woff), url(/fonts/FrutigerLTStd-Black.eot), url(/fonts/FrutigerLTStd-Black.eot?
/fonts/AvenirLTStd-Heavy.otf), url(/fonts/AvenirLTStd-Heavy.woff), url(/fonts/AvenirLTStd-Heavy.eot), url(/fonts/AvenirLTStd-Heavy.eot?
/fonts/AvenirLTStd-Book.otf), url(/fonts/AvenirLTStd-Book.woff), url(/fonts/AvenirLTStd-Book.eot), url(/fonts/AvenirLTStd-Book.eot?
/fonts/FrutigerLTStd-Bold.otf), url(/fonts/FrutigerLTStd-Bold.woff), url(/fonts/FrutigerLTStd-Bold.eot), url(/fonts/FrutigerLTStd-Bold.eot?
/fonts/FrutigerLTStd-Bold.otf), url(/fonts/FrutigerLTStd-Bold.woff), url(/fonts/FrutigerLTStd-Bold.eot), url(/fonts/FrutigerLTStd-Bold.eot?
/fonts/FrutigerLTStd-Black.otf), url(/fonts/FrutigerLTStd-Black.woff), url(/fonts/FrutigerLTStd-Black.eot), url(/fonts/FrutigerLTStd-Black.eot?
/fonts/AvenirLTStd-Book.otf), url(/fonts/AvenirLTStd-Book.woff), url(/fonts/AvenirLTStd-Book.eot), url(/fonts/AvenirLTStd-Book.eot?
| /fonts/AvenirLTStd-Heavy.otf), url(/fonts/AvenirLTStd-Heavy.woff), url(/fonts/AvenirLTStd-Heavy.eot), url(/fonts/AvenirLTStd-Heavy.eot? |Any idea what is causing these 404 errors? Is this something that might hurt my SERP?

It probably won't hurt your rankings, but we would need a URL to say more. Do you see links to the fonts in your source code? If it's not immediately obvious you could try running a crawl to see where these are being linked from. It's probably a simple matter of cleaning up some CSS.

We would need a URL to further try and diagnose the issue, feel free to send a DM with it in. But from what I can see your site is failing to access the font files used to style up the text on the site. they could be referenced in your meta or css etc.
Check your remote directory on FTP to ensure that these files have been correctly uploaded and are on the remote server.
Hope that helps.

Why is my website not showing up in a specific, very uncompetitive niche?
My website just went live about 3-4 weeks ago and while it has been indexed by Google-it shows up when I do a search for my site's name, it does not show up for the keyword terms it has been optimized for. This is a very specific, non-competitive niche-so I just can't imagine why it would not be showing for these non-competitive keyword term searches? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks

Can soft 404's hurt my rankings?
This post mainly pertains to soft 404's but I recently dropped a few ranks in my main keyword which I have maintained prior to this my better rank for well over 2 years. I participate in NO BLACKHAT and obtain links naturally. I want to describe a few issues that happened prior to my ranking dropping and see what you guys think. I started to receive about a week prior to my ranks dropping DNS issues with GWT. It was weird because when I would use Goole Fetch on those pages they would return just fine so I was not sure what was happening there. I use Google page speed server which did in fact decrease my load time (YEAH!!) so that was cool. About 1 week prior to my rankings dropping I enabled godaddy's Website Accelerator as well thinking that could help even more. Because of this I thought maybe this had something to do with my DNS issues with Google so I decided to turn off my website accelerator with Godaddy and just leave my Google pagespeed service on. I figure I don't need 2 of them anyways IMO. Also at the same time I started to receive a ton (31,000+) html errors with duplicate metadescriptions and titles. I discovered I had an error with my code which was displaying 2 different sets of descriptions and titles for each of these pages. I since then have fixed the issue and waiting for Google to index those pages. Here is were I think I might have been hurting from the drop in rankings. Some months ago (maybe 2) I decided to redirect my 404's to my homepage. Yes I know this is not good now and I have created a proper 404 page which returns the 404 code. I recently started getting a ton of Soft 404 errors in GWT which is what brought my attention to this issue. My question is, could my action of redirecting my users to my homepage as a 404 which obviously was returning a 200 on a page that did not exist be possibly the culprit to my ranks dropping?

Website Speed Testing Tools
I have been experimenting with a number of plugins to speed up the loading of my wordpress site and find that website speed testing tools are all over the map when it comes to results. Even the same tool can produce vastly different results. Does anyone have experience with one that is both dependable and consistent?

Getting Google to provide a different URL in SERP
For one of my client’s sites, I have several keywords that are ranking in the top 5 positions. However, they have a high bounce rate. I believe this is because Google is delivering a different URL than the page we have optimized for the keyword. Any suggestions on ways I can get Google to present our preferred page?

Appropriate SEO strategies for a website's own SERPs?
Hello all, What are good on-page SEO practices for the search result pages on our own sites? For instance, what page titles do you use? Do you include page numbers? Meta-descriptions? Headers? Keyword utilization? This is a consideration for us as we link to some popular search results on our sites. Thanks!
