HREFLANG No Return Tag Error
-
Keep getting WMT no return tag error. Also got an email today on this issue. Here are a couple pages showing up in the error report:
Originating URL: /hawaii/kauai-real-estate/
Alternate URL: /jp/hawaii/kauai-real-estate/
Here are the hreflang tags for each page:
/hawaii/kauai-real-estate/
/jp/hawaii/kauai-real-estate/
The only thing I can see is the hreflang= is at the end of the snippet but doesn't seem like that would matter. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Thank you, really appreciate the insight. We'll work on this.

Question:
Why https://www.locationshawaii.com/jp/hawaii/hamakua-real-estate.aspx and https://www.locationshawaii.com/hawaii/hamakua-real-estate.aspx appear to me both in Japanese?
(this happens if first I visited the Japanese version).
Second big mistake: your language switcher in the header is Java... cannot be seen by bots. Change it, because I'm quite confident that the message you're seeing are also because of it. In fact, the hreflang annotations are correctly implemented (saw manually and using flang.dejan.com.au test tool).
Finally... try to avoid Google Translate as a way to translate content on site and, please, localize ALL the content (specifically navigation menu, sidebar links, banners...)

Here's a few pages that show up as errors in WMT. We also just recently received a message from WMT regarding this.
International Targeting | Language > 'ja' - no return tags
URLs for your site and alternate URLs in 'ja' that do not have return tags
https://www.locationshawaii.com/jp/hawaii/hamakua-real-estate.aspx
https://www.locationshawaii.com/jp/kauai/hanalei-real-estate.aspxSame thing is happening for English versions:
https://www.locationshawaii.com/hawaii/hamakua-real-estate.aspx
https://www.locationshawaii.com/kauai/hanalei-real-estate.aspx -
If you can't post the URLs here, try an Hreflang testing tool. I built one at https://app.hreflang.org

Yes that is what we have:
Don't understand what we're getting errors...

Hi Nikhlish, thanks for the response. I'm waiting for client to approve me posting URLs.
In the meantime, does each page need to physically link to the different language version? in other words, do I need a direct from /hawaii/kauai-real-estate/ to /jp/hawaii/kauai-real-estate/ ?
We don't have any redirects or canonical tags on the page.

Markup looks OK but is that the full picture? Are there redirects involved here? Is the canonical tag pointing elsewhere? What's the actual URL?

XHTML tag syntax for rel=alternate hreflang
Is there a difference in the below two tags? My dev team is saying the first can be implemented (technical issue on their end), even though second is preferable, according to support.google.com, in the below two sitemap hreflang notations. My question is, will the first xhtml tag work for Google? Appreciate the input. <xhtml:link href="<a href="http://store.hp.com/CanadaStore/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://store.hp.com/CanadaStore/" hreflang="en-ca" rel="alternate" /></xhtml:link href="<a> <xhtml:link href="<a href=" http:="" store.hp.com="" canadastore="" "="" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://store.hp.com/CanadaStore/" rel="alternate" hreflang="en-ca" /></xhtml:link >

Meta tags in Single Page Apps
Since the deprecation of the AJAX Crawling Scheme back last October I am curious as to when Googlebot actually reads meta tag information from a page. We have a website at whichledlight.com that is implemented using emberjs. Part of the site is our results pages (i.e. gu10-led-bulbs). This page updates the meta and link tags in the head of the document for things like canonicalisation and robots, but can only do so after the page finishes loading and the JavaScript has been run. When the AJAX crawling scheme was still in place we were able to prerender these pages (including the modified meta and link tags) and serve these to Googlebot. Now Googlebot no longer uses these prerendered snapshots and instead is sophisticated enough load and run our site.So the question I have is does Googlebot read the meta and links tags downloaded from the original response or does it wait until the page finishes rendering before reading them (including any modifications that have been performed on them)

Schema Markup Errors - Priority or Not?
Greetings All... I've been digging through the search console on a few of my sites and I've been noticing quite a few structured data errors. Most of the errors are related to: hcard, hentry and hatom. Most of them are missing author & entry-title, while the other one is missing: fn. I recently saw an article on SEL about Google's focus on spammy mark-up. The sites I use are built and managed by vendors, so I would have to impress upon them the impact of these errors and have them prioritize, then fix them. My question is whether or not this should be prioritized? Should I have them correct these errors sooner than later or can I take a phased approach? I haven't noticed any loss in traffic or anything like that, I'm more focused on what negative impact a "phased approach" could have. Any thoughts?

Advanced Hreflang !
Hey Everyone: We are currently implementing hreflang tags on our site, and we have many parameter pages with hreflang tags; however, I am afraid these may be counted as duplicate content without canonical tags. example.com/utm_source=tpi href='http://example.com/de" hreflang="de" rel="alternate" href='http://example.com/nl" hreflang="nl" rel="alternate" href='http://example.com/fr" hreflang="fr" rel="alternate" href='http://example.com/it" hreflang="it" rel="alternate" I have two questions 1. On the parameter pages (which have hreflang tags like above) do we also need a canonical tag on example.com/utm_source_tpi pointing to example.com ? 2. On the homepage (page without the parameter), should I add a self referencing hreflang tag? (href="http://example.com/" hreflang="es") Thanks so much for your help! -K

Is this nofollow tag written wrong?
I'm doing a link audit and came across this nofollow tag: [http://www.jampaper.com/Envelopes](<a class=)">www.jampaper.com/Envelopes Does it matter that the nofollow tag is at the front? Shouldn't it after the URL?

Duplicate title tags and meta description tags
According to GWT, it seems that some of the pages on my website have duplicate title and meta tags. The pages identified by Google are nothing but dynamic pages: http://www.mywebsite.com/page.php

http://www.mywebsite.com/page.php?param=1
http://www.mywebsite.com/page.php?param=2 The thing is that I do use the canonical link tag on all pages. Should I also use the "robots noindex" tag when the page is invoked using a GET parameter? Again sorry for my english. Thank you, Stephane1 -
Crawl Errors and Duplicate Content
SEOmoz's crawl tool is telling me that I have duplicate content at "www.mydomain.com/pricing" and at "www.mydomain.com/pricing.aspx". Do you think this is just a glitch in the crawl tool (because obviously these two URL's are the same page rather than two separate ones) or do you think this is actually an error I need to worry about? Is so, how do I fix it?
