Updating Publishing Date on Blog Posts
-
Hi,
We have been optimising and re-sharing old blogs posts from our feed. If we were to change the date of publishing on the posts in order to bring them to the top of our feed, would this have any negative impacts on the posts' metadata?
Thanks!

Short answer is no, it would not have a negative effect.
The big issue is this: WILL THE URL CHANGE if you update and republish? Hopefully, you have a FLAT URL STRUCTURE that doesn't have dates in the URL. That way you can update your best content (maybe you change the pictures, maybe you research and update the post with new information, maybe the UX has been improved) but publish at the SAME URL.
Doing this is clearly very important for SEO purposes -- you don't "break" URLs and you allow the earned authority of the post to stay intact while also republishing and generating new "pings" to Google to take advantage of Freshness boosts.
Google wants you to update and republish. But you need to update and republish WHEN YOU HAVE IMPROVED the content for the reader. And that's what is important here. That's what we are talking about when you hear about the topic of "Evergreen Content." It's not that the content itself never expires, it's that you have been a good gatekeeper of the content and when it can be updated with fresher, more current information, you have done so with the clear interests of the user in mind.
So with regards to your question, the important point is this: are you updating the date just to keep re-featuring content that you haven't actually made UX changes too? Or are you updating and republishing when you've actually IMPROVED the original content for the reader? If it's the former, personally, this is really a waste of time. But if it's the latter and you have monitored the content and made improvements, then republishing is absolutely the way to go.
Within your Google Search Console make sure to avail yourself of the "Search Queries" report. Sort that by both impressions and clicks. If you see content from the last 28 days or longer that has not accumulated any clicks that's a clear sign that Google "didn't like that content" much. Once you sort for seasonal shifts, use that report to spot the content that didn't connect the first time and then update and republish. That's where you will get the most "bang for the buck" in this area.
Pro Tip: use the tool www.answerthepublic.com to find questions users are asking around the root keywords of your posts and then seek to ask and answer some of those questions in your content. Doing this will promote more "complete" content pieces that Google will eat up and rank accordingly.
Good luck! Hope this was helpful.

Blog post generating irrelevant traffic. What should I do with it?
I have a blog post that has been generating more than 75% of my website's traffic month over month.-averaging about 1000 views a month. Awesome that so many people are finding and benefiting from this post, however it is really skewing my traffic. I have an 87% bounce rate, and I'm only ranking in terms related to this post as opposed to industry related terms. I'm not sure what to do with this blog post. I want to be able to better evaluate my website's performance and be sure I'm targeting the right audience in order to gain more leads. Would a 'noindex' or 'nofollow' be appropriate here? Thanks!

Guest blog on my web site.
**I received this email from a lady who wishes to write articles and post them on my site under my news section . Ok, if its quality I dont mind hiring somebody to create a post. Her proposal is as follows and this is her email :-**Basically what I can offer is to write a couple of articles for your News section, something fun and interesting for your visitors which will hopefully drag some traffic your way. I could make them well suited to your site and I could include in each a link to a client of mine - one who wants to be exposed on a good site like yours - and for doing that I can offer you compensation of £33 for each client link - 1 per article. For example, one client is Watches of Switzerland, so I could write an article about ideal wedding gifts for a groom maybe, or something about a perfect Honeymoon destination like Switzerland, and slip a link in there. Other clients include Weddingsite and Lampcommerce - which could be included in something about making a matrimonial home. There are a few stipulations I would need to abide by, like - the article would need to be 500 words, it would need the link to be a 'do follow' link, it would need a picture or two, and it would need a couple of 'sacrifice links' (just links to Wikipedia or something to make it more Google friendly). Question. Is this what a guest article is ? and also is the format ok ? Sorry if this seems a dumb question but still learning guys . King regards to everyone Peter

Content Duplication for Job Posting
Hello! I am responsible for SEO of a job portal of a recruitment agency. We get 30-40 jobs every month which we post on a) our job portal b) other job portals (like monster, career builder, Naukri , etc). How do avoid content duplication? We can only post the same job descriptions everywhere. We always post the job on our site first and then the other job portals**. How to ensure that Google knows our portal is the original job posters and not other job portals.** Thank you.

Archiving old blog posts - yea or nay?
I'm building up my personal website. When I moved from my old domain to my current one a few years ago, I had moved a folder with all my old blog posts (from an old blogger.com account) to an archives called /blog/. It's bad enough the entries just text and nearly all the images aren't there but because of the way I moved over the posts, I have 200+ duplicate page titles with no meta descriptions. Is it worth saving these posts ? (putting them into an archives.mysite.com sub-domain?) I already have the folder disallowed in my robotos.txt file and there's nothing really incredible content-wise in the archives, though they are some of the oldest pages on my current (3 years old) domain. There's no real SEO thought in them as this was just a fun personal blog at the time. Thoughts?
