Recommendations for a good FAQ system
-
Hi I am looking for an FAQ system that is seo friendly, naturally , so wondered what other people use or would recommend for a website that's isn't using a cms like wordpress etc.
Basically looking to add the question as the title and the answer as the page content to get the pages indexed.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Ryan (x2)
Looked at that faqme system and thanks for the tip but would have to agree that faqme looks very seo unfriendly.
We've found a couple which we're looking at and I will update with the 'chosen one' soon.
Thanks again guys for your help.

faqme.com works by directing your site's traffic to their site. I would classify their service as being SEO unfriendly. You are taking your users away from your site.

Trevor, I just found this site the other day and I thought of this question. Perhaps this service can help you?

Hi Ennovation Thanks for link - site looks nice. I will chat with my client and see if that could be a better option for them. Thanks again. Trevor

I'm sorry to say I don't know anything about that script. My point was that from the code point of view, a question is like any other content and so a CMS should be able to handle what you're after.
Unfortunately I don't know of any out of the box FAQ scripts. Best of luck, and if you find the killer solution be sure to let us know

I used it for the q&a section - see here and worked great.. Just to know I'm a designer not a programmer... Just know the basics of PHP ...

Hi Ennovation Thanks I'll take a look at zend.
-
Some simple php would help you. I've been using zend framework. Great for building simple things... and more complex as well

Hi Ryan
Thanks for your reply.
Just been looking at knowledgebase-script which seems to offer all that is required as the client is looking for a 'ready to go' kind of solution rather than add on cms like wp - which would be cheaper but require more work to set up.
Any experience with this or similar packages?
Thanks again for taking the time to reply, it's appreciated.

It sounds like you want a way to add content to your site where you use a web based form to input the title (question) and body (answer) and then have them linked together in a sort of index. Possibly with extra things like "related questions".
If all that is true, then what you're asking for is a CMS.
The quick and dirty non-cms way is to create a template for your FAQ questions and use it whenever you want to add a new question to your list. If that's too hands-on with html, a modified WP installation in a folder named /faq may be what you need.

Bullet points good or bad for seo?
Hi Everyone, After a body of unique content of say 50 words, will Google then penalise you for adding bullet points which will then be duplicated across all those products (say 100 products)? http://www.polesandblinds.com/acacia-teal-roller-blind/? Look forward to your comments, good or bad, Thanks Jonathan

New CMS system - 100,000 old urls - use robots.txt to block?
Hello. My website has recently switched to a new CMS system. Over the last 10 years or so, we've used 3 different CMS systems on our current domain. As expected, this has resulted in lots of urls. Up until this most recent iteration, we were unable to 301 redirect or use any page-level indexation techniques like rel 'canonical' Using SEOmoz's tools and GWMT, I've been able to locate and redirect all pertinent, page-rank bearing, "older" urls to their new counterparts..however, according to Google Webmaster tools 'Not Found' report, there are literally over 100,000 additional urls out there it's trying to find. My question is, is there an advantage to using robots.txt to stop search engines from looking for some of these older directories? Currently, we allow everything - only using page level robots tags to disallow where necessary. Thanks!

Footers... Good or Bad?
I know in the past footers have been seen as a bad idea. I need to get up to date. Does having footer links that point to your own site with anchor texts keywords create problems? or is it safe to have? Will it do anything to our google rankings? Is it going to penalize us? As well, how many is acceptable, do I want all 77 links or have 15 with sub-categories?

Maximum length of a URL for good SEO?
Hi there, We have a content database as part of our site and I noticed that the way the database is loaded with new content, it means that the URL’s for these pages are really long, around 100 characters or sometimes more http://www.xxxyy.org/knowledge-base/documents/word1-word2-word3-word4-word5-word6-word7-word8 Is there a suggted maximum character length for a URL? Kind of like for title tag where I max out at 69… Should I truncate the URL’s or at least reduce the numbers of words in them to something less spammy? Does that make a difference? Thanks!

Max # of recommended links per page?
I've heard it said that Google may choose to stop following links after the first 100 on a page. The landing/category pages for my site's product catalog have earned quite a respectable PR and positioning in search results, and I'm currently paginating their product listings (about 200 products in a category) so that only a couple dozen products are shown on the first page, with links to "next page" and "previous page" being accomplished via query string (i.e. "?page=3"). An alternative option I have is to link to 100% of the contained products within the category's landing page (which would increase my on-page link count to ~300) and use CSS/Javascript to allow the user to simulate browsing between pages on the client side. My goal is to see as many of my product pages indexed as possible. Is this done better using my current scheme (where Googlebot would have to navigate to, say, Landing Page -> Page 6 -> Deeply Buried Product Page) or in the alternative method above, where all the links are in a single page? Since my landing pages are currently treated pretty well by search engines, would that "trust" cause them to follow more links than might normally be done? Thank you!
