Google Analytics is telling me to Vote Trump - What is going on over there?
-
An Australian start up we act for has Vote Trump appearing in Google Analytics. Is that happening for anyone else. It is very strange.

Hi Clayton as @Alick mentions this is spam, however, I don't recommend you to ignore it. You should take care of it otherwise, the spam will keep coming and coming with different names and forms.
Veronica, there are no real backlinks, it doesn't have anything to do with Wordpress, and neither bots, at least for this type of spam. It all happens within Google Analytics, so you have to deal with it from there with filters.
It may take a bit of time to set the filters, but it will save lots of headaches. You will find more details about this issue and step by step instructions on how to create these filters on this post.
Who is behind the "Secret.ɢoogle.com ... Vote for Trump spam" and how to get rid of it
Hope it helps,
Carlos

Hi Clayton,
I have the same issue here. Analytics snapshot.
Besides to ignore, it due to it is wrongfully targeted.
I will report to WordPress and Google.Basically, bots create a hyperlink to any of the pages of a website - usually the root domain - containing UTM-tags. Therefore, it is serious in those terms; my WordPress was targeted.
What I can say, not pleased at all. It is a dangerous lack of security in WordPress.

Google SERP shows wrong (and inappropriate) thumbnail for Facebook videos?
Hello I'm running into a strange issue with at least one of my client's video. The video is posted on Facebook. When searching for the video on Google, the SERP shows a completely wrong, and inappropriate, thumbnail image. (And in one case the preview video starts playing within Google SERP.) It also seems that Google is indexing various countries' facebook page for the same video separately (it-it.facebook.com, fr-fr.facebook.com, etc). Note that only the thumbnail and preview video within Google are wrong; if you click on the link, you see the correct video and page. I hesitate to divulge the actual client video, but there are some reports on Google's search community about the same behavior: Here's one that stargs back in March: https://support.google.com/webmasters/thread/33760205?hl=en and a more recent one: https://support.google.com/websearch/thread/71452151?hl=en It looks increasingly like a bug in some google algorithm, but nobody at google seems to acknowledge that. I've unpublished the original video from FB and submitted an 'outdated content' removal to Google, which is pending. In the meantime, my questions for our group of experts here: Has anyone else experienced this and any other suggestionso n how to fix? If we assume that this is not a google bug: how could a malicious actor or black-hat SEO influence Google's algorithms to cause this? Thanks, mickey

Google Plus Cover image
Does anyone have any tips on getting a super crisp cover image uplaoded to G+? I have a clear image, full dimensions of 2120 x 1192, but once I've uploaded it, G+ appears to compress it and it loses sharpness / quality. I have turned auto-optimise off, and and tried both JPEG and PNG files - PNG seems to work better, but still not quite there. Example: https://plus.google.com/116325067504054061939 (scroll up to see blurry text) Thx!

How does Google handle URL shortening, do they pass link juice?
When I'm Social Book marking my websites I use a url shortening service such as bitly.com or onlywire.com. Do these services transfer link juice in the same ways as a direct link would do?

Google+ SEO value
Hello, We created a google+ page for our website and we would like to know what's best for SEO purposes. We've put +1 buttons on our website and when you use them it give a +1 to our website's url. Some other websites on the other hand make the button give a +1 to their website's page on Google + like this for instance: https://plus.google.com/u/0/113493854651753327245/posts So basically the number of +1s on the Google+ page increases. Which one is best to have my website rank higher for its keywords? Thanks for your help 🙂

How does Google 'see' Facebook shares?
With Rand's new post about the correlation between FB Shares and rankings, I wanted to ask... How is Google able to see what links are being shared? Does the profile have to be public? Or do they get anonymous info direct from FB as part of some deal?
