Internal Links from Blog
-
Quick question. In regards to linking to products from your blog. I've read recently that linking excessively between your site can be a bad SEO habit.
So, I was curious if anyone else has heard of this. Plus, if you have a blog, how many internal links should you have going to you pages on your site - other blogs, products etc?
Thanks.

We regularly use internal links from the blog to our main pages, which can help reduce the business's bounce rate.
For example, rather than the shopper leaving the site, shoppers start to read about another product or service you sell. We don’t do this for a Cardiff demolition company, and it helped reduce the company's bounce rate.

Great question Swendt! Linking from your blog to your product page or other blog post is a great SEO practice, as long as it is in moderation. People tend to disagree on what that is, but I've seen having 2-3 internal links, as well as 2-3 external links in a 500-1000 word blog post be a great SEO benefit.
Internal linking is an often overlooked SEO strategy that can help distribute authority to page's you want to rank on Google and be visited when someone is on your website, just make sure the links are relevant, helpful, and that you don't have so many that it hurts the user's perception of your blog quality.

We routinely link from our blog to product pages, landing pages, and content silo pages. As long as you do it naturally you'll be fine. We have a standard of our internal links being "helpful" to the user experience to help guide our team. For example, let's say its a product review blog article. It would make sense to link from that article to the actual product. What doesn't make sense is linking to that product from a blog article with content that is not related is rather "spammy" if you will.
You can invoke Google's eye if you're internal linking is clearly spamming, but this would result in lost rankings over time because your content does not serve users' search intent or answer their query, if that makes sense. In terms of a magic number of what is considered too much, there's no telling. I view it as more of a ratio instead of a hard figure. Long story short, keep the linking natural and make sure it helps the user solve their search query and you'll be fine.

New blog contributors
For context my website is a content resource portal. In SEO training I have been told that it is a good SEO move to have as many content contributors as possible. As a result we are pushing to recruit new content contributors so they can be listed as new contributors/authors on our site alongside their valuable content. Would this move be good for our SEO rankings and is there anything in particular to consider with this?

Hi, on SEO article submissions, do I only include the link to the page I am trying to promote or is it best practice to also include a link to home page or parent page?
Good day. I am writing articles for submission, I would just like some help with the page structure. Do I only include the link for the page that I would like to promote or is it advisable to include other page links, such as home page or the parent category too? Any help would be appreciated

Moving from Blogspot to blog hosted on our domain
Hi there, I work for a furniture retailer in the UK and I have a question about moving our blog. We have had a blog at www.ourcompany.blogspot.co.uk since 2012 and it was last updated mid 2014. There are about 100 posts and the content is actually really good, not spammy in any way and not stuffed with links to our site. The content is essentially guides to buying the right furniture. We have now launched blog functionaility on our website at www.ourcompany.co.uk/blog as I feel this is a better long-term solution to increasing site traffic and page rank. I want to pick your brains on the best way to handle the old content. A: Copy all the Blogspot content across and back date it to the same date it was originally published and then delete the old Blogspot account? Or will Google see this as duplicate content. B: Backup all the Blogspot content now, delete the Blogspot account and then repost this content at a later date? Will this still be seen as duplicate content? 😄 something else. Thanks for reading.

Blogs, blogspot, tumblr etc
We currently have our own wordpress blog on our site using wordpress, is it worth while having others such as blogspot, tumblr etc for seo purposes? Or would I be wasting my time and efforts?

This would not be considered selling links would it?
I have a site that is an informational site about a particular market segment. It is not a directory at all, but as part of the site I have pages for the various vendors, and have "states" pages that list which vendors sell in those states. The site makes very good money on adsense. But I see opportunity in getting the vendors to pay to be listed in our site. At a minimum, grandfather in those already there, and then charge for new companies to be included. Most of the new companies are second-tier players anyway, and if they decode not to pay and get in, it's not to a detriment ot my site. But I do have companies lining up wanting to get in. Of course my first thought, is what will Google think? I would of course make any link out to one of the vendors NOFOLLOW, so even even though they pay for inclusion on our site, I am not selling links for page juice. Google loves us in search right now, so they have a favorable opinion of us. The site has lots of content, and new blog posts and comments all most pages hourly. So, is this going to be okay with Google? I don't see how it breaks any rules, but thought I'd better check. One further worry: If I change the new guys for inclusion on the site, and don't charge the old ones, that means I'd have the new guys NOFOLLOW, but the old ones would still be DOFOLLOW if I don't change them. I don't want Google to be confused thinking I might have sold those existing DOFOLLOW links as well. So, should I change them all to NOFOLLOW? And if I do, does that then cause anything that Google would not like (I know they don't like pagerank hoarding).

Removing and resubmitting an article to another blog
I received a guest post earlier from an SEO company. I have published it, and it's been indexed in Google. Now the person wants me to remove the guest post, probably because they already have a guest post with a link pointing to the same client on my blog. I don't mind removing it, but are their any negative aspects in republishing that same article on another blog? Would it be a mistake to remove that article from my blog?

What is the Best Practice for External Links?
We are currently in the process of reviewing our site on a number of fronts, and part of that involves adding quality content to our product category pages where necessary. Our practice so far has been to add relevant content, and in this content externally link to a couple of relevant, related sites for that category (avoiding the use of keywords we are trying to rank for). Should we be doing this (externally linking)? And, if so, should these external links be NoFollow? So far, we have seen mixed results for our efforts.
