Competitor using our product descriptions

Hi,
We have a competitor (with a higher DA) using some content from our product pages word for word on a few of their product pages. It's only a couple paragraphs per product page (including the main product description), not the entirety of the content on the page. It also appears they have scraped some content from another authoritative competitor (and even left their brand name mentioned on it!)
I've read mixed thoughts on whether plagiarized content will harm the original site, but am concerned since it is an authoritative site. Should I be concerned since it's only parts of our product page?

I am of the firm opinion that other people using your content will cause problems with your rankings and those problems can be severe. We have found that one powerful competitor or a large number of pissants using your content can be deadly.
So, we have consulted with an attorney and are ready to respond in various ways. These include: informal infringement notice sent by me, formal notice sent by the attorney, DMCA complaint filed through Google's DMCA dashboard, DMCA complaint sent directly to the host, complaints of infringement sent to Adsense. The complaint route(s) taken are determined by the severity of infringement, who is infringing, the success of first notice, and numerous other things.
We have sent complaints about infringement against hundreds of other domains. The infringers have included, spammers of various kinds, law firms of all sizes (usually their SEO or webmaster is the culprit), retail competitors, information sites, a state supreme court, a police department, major ecommerce... its surprising who does the infringing and where it happens.
Most of the time infringment is innocent rather than criminal. Upstanding businesses usually respond quickly to an informal notice of infringement with... 1) thank you for letting us know, 2) we are sorry that this happened, 3) we are educating the people involved, 4) this problem will be fixed promptly. Weasels don't respond and we go straight to DMCA, hosting complaint and a complaint to their monetization source.
I suggest contacting an attorney who practices copyright law and meet to develop a plan. From my experience, attorneys cost less than you fear and are more valuable than you expect. We consulted with a few law firms and found one who matches our idea that most infringement is innocent and people will respond properly.
Once you have a plan in place and understand Fair Use, the strength of your position, and the goal that you desire, you are then in position that you can file several DMCAs to Google or send several informal notices by email in under one hour, or send a URL to the attorney and he will send standard or customized letter at a cost that is not damaging to your business.

I can see competitors ranking for certain long-tail keywords but cannot find them on web pages. What am I missing?
Hi there. I'm pretty new to SEO and I've been doing a fair bit of training but there is one aspect I have yet to grasp. When I carry out keyword research, I get all these results and I understand the metrics. What I'm not getting is, when a competitor is ranking highly for say "where can I buy fresh turkeys", I assume that that phrase must appear somewhere on the page, but it doesn't. I realise I'm just not thinking about this in the right way. Can anyone offer clarification, please? Kind regards, Bruce

What tools can give reliable competitor traffic data?
Could you give details of reliable tools that can measure and provide competitors' traffic data? Google Adplanner used to provide such information until June of last year, and while it's numbers didn't match Google Analytics data, the numbers were reasonably close. The metrics we are most interested in are visits, page views and unique visitors. We have looked at sites such as Compete -- but feel it is far too inaccurate/ skewed with US data only; also, would prefer to not rely on Alexa traffic stats. Thanks in advance.

Ecommerce seo - competitors are using spammy links to rank HELP
After setting up SEO Moz and whilst waiting for it to crawl my site i have checked out my competitors who are ranking for the keywords i am going after. It appears from what i can see in OSE that they are ranking with back links from spammy looking sites and lots of exact match anchor text. I have tried to match a few links with what they have currently without getting myself into anything too spammy but i really don't want to follow how they have done it exactly. The niche i am in is pretty boring but the rewards are great but i am finding creating content and distributing it correctly difficult which is why i need some help. My site is roughly 9 months old and the product descriptions are hand written trying to give as much info as possible with a hint of personality so no cookie cutter back of the box descriptions. i have matched a few of the links from competitors which weren't too spammy and as relevant as i could get to my niche, i have also created articles for some article directories - all of which isn't really getting me very far and i am running out of ideas on how to create new content & the types of new content to help me get back links naturally. If any of you friendly guys could offer me some assistance in setting up a basic seo campaign which would help me target my keywords i would be very much in your debt

What is the best tool to monitor your competitor's backlinks?
I am looking for a tool that not only accurately tells me how many links are being built by a competitor, I want to know the specific URLs for specific periods. If I can filter/search by time periods, i.e which links were added for the month of August, 2012, that would be great. Thanks for the help.

Comparing competitor folder path
Hi All I've just take on a new client and need to be able to compare their performance with a competitor's sub-folder site. The competitor is http://thebestof.co.uk/local/brightonandhove/ I've tried to add that to the competition structure in my campaign but can't use "Path" info. What do you guys do in these types of cases. BTW - TheBestOf.co.uk is a franchise with a /local/CityNames across the UK

My competition is using 1px images and links without anchor text. Good or bad idea?
I've been scoping out some of my competition and I noticed the number 1 ranking site is doing a lot of "interesting" stuff. I saw a bunch of 1px blank images that they must be using for the alt tag keywords. I also noticed several links to internal pages with different keywords without anchor text so they don't actually appear on the page. Is this considered black hat? Should I be doing something similar? It feels like the work I'm doing to try to rank #1 with a clean/professional looking site are wasted when the #1 sites are doing things like this.

What % is a GO when using the Keyword difficulty tool?
Hi, A lot of keywords I have looked into say 'moderately competitive' at around 35% - 45%. But what else would you look at in the table to decide whether or not the keyword term is achievable and how do you decide this maybe its the root domain backlinks and maybe you would only touch it if it had less then 30. Basically what other elements do you look at when deciding whether to pursue? This might also include some research in Google itself (although most the data you would want is in the tool, well I think anyway! Cheers

Competitor with over 100,000 links to duplicate copy ranks well, anyone know why?
One of our competitors has over 100,000 links on Yahoo site explorer, most of them are from pages on their site with duplicate content and they don't seem to have a focus on gaining backlinks, but the site still ranks really well. Can anyone think of a reason why this duplicate content hasn't been penalised by Google?
