If my products aren't showing in rich snippets, is there still value in adding product schema?
-
I'm adding category pages for an online auction site and trying to determine if its worth marking up the products listed on the page. All of the individual product pages have product schema, but I have never seen them show up in rich snippets likely due to the absence of the price element and the unique nature of the items. Is there still value in adding the product schema even if the items won't show in rich snippets?
Also, is it possible the product schema will help optimize for commerce related keywords such as [artist name] + for sale?
-
Yes. Google have said many many times (too many to cite) that schema, J-son and using the data highlighter is one of the best ways that you can spend your time optimising. You're making their lives easier and telling them directly how they can enrich the user experience for their searchers.
I have tested a number of different ways. I have rich snippet plugins for review stars. These are great and if I add the google review widget to a page then the star rating of that product will show almost immediately (we have 230ish google reviews at 4.9.)
Then I discovered the data highlighter and found that this works really well for individual products and getting reviews (the words not the stars) in the results and also helps with all sorts of other things. So each new page gets the full treatment from the data highlighter including local business, reviews, authors (if it's an article) and products. You need to include the prices and availability and if these are not available on the page to highlight then use the 'add extra info' function in the data highlighter and just say that the products are immediately available and you can add a price. This can be a 'from price' or a range. But without the price you're unlikely to get anywhere in my experience. Experiment with adding prices. If it's an auction add the price as "zero" or "$0" and just see whether you get featured.
Its a very responsive and fast system so you don't have to wait, just add the markup, send in the spiders and wait a few hours. Lately google has been taking longer to index so it might take a day or so but it's still a short enough timeframe to run tests. Also if you're using shopify or wordpress then you should be appearing with site-links, hyperlinks in the SERP and reviews specific to your product anyway if you're using H1's and H2's correctly and structuring the pages properly.
Then lastly there's just adding in the code to the page in the header / footer. I've found that this trumps everything. For example If I say i've got 230 reviews in the footer, then my little widget (that updates my reviews each day will not update and i'll still be stuck on 230 even when the widget is saying more. When I go in and update the code in the header it will update in a day or so. So it seems that manually adding the code is the firmest and strongest (or most trustworthy) signal.
Also remember that google has to trust your site to serve up rich results so newer sites, dodgy claims or anything other then whiter than white-hat is going to end you up with nothing showing up. Google are always trying to verify markup and if they catch you out exaggerating or being inaccurate then it's going to cause problems. They've said this many times too. It's classed as 'markup spam'.
So get highlighting or get yourself a code-builder to make some J-son or code you can insert directly onto the product pages. I'm not a developer but I do it with a tool called SEO Profiler where you just type the words and it turns it into J-son for the site by magic and you just paste it in there. There's free versions of this on the schema.org site. Also check this out from moz on schema
You will start showing just give it time. And mark up EVERYTHING you can. Always worth it, but be comprehensive or it won't show. So add in the best guess price and the best guess 'anything' that's missing.

How to Evaluate Original Domain Authority vs. Recent 'HTTPS' Duplicate for Potential Domain Migration?
Hello Everyone, So our site has used ‘http’ for the domain since the start. Everything has been set up for this structure and Google is only indexing these pages. Just recently a second version was created on ‘httpS’. We know having both up is the worst case scenario but now that both are up is it worth just switching over or would the original domain authority warrant just keeping it on ‘http’ and redirecting the ‘httpS’ version? Assuming speed and other elements wouldn’t be an issue and it's done correctly. Our thought was if we could do this quickly it would be easier to just redirect the ‘httpS’ version but was not sure if the Pros of ‘httpS’ would be worth the resources. Any help or insight would be appreciated. Please let us know if there are any further details we could provide that might help. Looking forward to hearing from all of you! Thank you in advance for the help. Best,

My "search visibility" went from 3% to 0% and I don't know why.
My search visibility on here went from 3.5% to 3.7% to 0% to 0.03% and now 0.05% in a matter of 1 month and I do not know why. I make changes every week to see if I can get higher on google results. I do well with one website which is for a medical office that has been open for years. This new one where the office has only been open a few months I am having trouble. We aren't getting calls like I am hoping we would. In fact the only one we did receive I believe is because we were closest to him in proximity on google maps. I am also having some trouble with the "Links" aspect of SEO. Everywhere I see to get linked it seems you have to pay. We are a medical office we aren't selling products so not many Blogs would want to talk about us. Any help that could assist me with getting a higher rank on google would be greatly appreciated. Also any help with getting the search visibility up would be great as well.

Will adding 1000's of outbound links to just a few website impact rankings?
I manage a large website that hosts 1000's of business listings that comprise an area that covers 7 state counties. Currently a category page (such as lodging) hosts a group of listings which then link to it's own page. From these pages links are present directly to the business it represents. The client is proposing that we change all listings to link to the representative county website and remove the individual pages. This essentially would create 1000's of external links to 7 different websites and remove 1000's of pages from our site.

Does anyone have thoughts on how adding 1000's of links (potentially upwards of 3000) to only 7 websites (that I would deem relevant links) would affect SEO? I know if 1000's of links are added pointing to 1000's of websites the site can be considered a link farm, but I can't find any info online that speaks of a case like this.0 -
We're currently not using schemas on our website. How important is it? And are websites across the globe using it?
Schemas looks like an important thing when it comes to structuring your website and ensuring the crawl bots get all the details. I've been reading a lot of articles around the web and most of them are saying that schemas are important but very few websites are using it. Why so? Are the schemas on schema.org there to stay or am I wasting my time?

Shopify Product Variants vs Separate Product Pages
Let's say I have 10 different models of hats, and each hat has 5 colors. I have two routes I could take: a) Make 50 separate product pages Pros: -Better usability for customer because they can shop for just masks of a specific color. We can sort our collections to only show our red hats. -Help SEO with specific kw title pages (red boston bruins hat vs boston bruins hat). Cons: -Duplicate Content: Hat model in one color will have almost identical description as the same hat in a different color (from a usability and consistency standpoint, we'd want to leave descriptions the same for identical products, switching out only the color) b) Have 10 products listed, each with 5 color variants Pros: -More elegant and organized -NO duplicate Content Cons: -Losing out on color specific search terms -Customer might look at our 'red hats' collection, but shopify will only show the 'default' image of the hat, which could be another color. That's not ideal for usability/conversions. Not sure which route to take. I'm sure other vendors must have faced this issue before. What are your thoughts?

Is there any delay between crawling a page by google and displaying of the ratings in rich snippet of the results in google?
