How do I get quality, relevant backlinks?
-
Hi,
I am trying to improve the SEO our my website which sells mens designer clothes.
I know the huge value of backlinks on relevant, high ranking/authoirtive sites.
Problem is how do I find these sites?
I am currently using twitter, facebook and google to find relevant blogs, websites, forums etc... (ones in the fashion, menswear, designer clothing field) but it is a slow and tedious process.
I there any tools, that I can use that find these high ranking sites or is it a case of me searching, searching and requesting to have an article published from blog owners with a link to one of my product pages in etc...?
Any help on backlinking and best way to approach would be great.
Thanks

Cheers.
I would use an SEO company but as a small business and brand owners requiring payments, it will be a few months before we have the cash to do so. So I am trying to learn myself as I have a fair bit of web knowledge and it is something that interests me, so learning SEO would be good for me.
I understand the spammy directories etc... but what I am asking is what methods are out there for finding these quality links?
Do I just google them, tweet them, facebook them and then see if they rank highly with the mozlabs tools?
How do people go about finding them and then getting the owners permission? Whats your email text to them?
Cheers
Will

Yep, link building is a tedious process and requires a fair amount of input and effort. Of course you could go down the 'black hat' method of submitting to spammy article sites and link directories, but that's probably not a good way to go, especially in the long term.
Creating some truly unique and quality content and getting it out in the social media should hopefully get other people to create natural links to your site, but this isn't always easy.
You could always use an SEO company

"...it is slow and tedious" I'm affraid that's link building for you. The longer and harder a link is to get, the better it is likely to be.
There are lots of different tools you can use to find places... here is one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HwraahDiDm8

Backlinks embedded in posts or backlinks in sidebar?
What's better? A backlink to my site, embedded into a blog post/article? Or a hardlink in the sidebar? The problem with links embedded inside articles, is that when the blog linking to me, gets updated, the articles disappear from first page and I lose the link from home page. How do you deal with this? I also read this: "The best link you can get is from a site ranking #1 for the keyword you want to rank for. It would be great to have the #1 site for a desired keyword linking me even if they are a PR 0 site." Is this right? Thx in advance.

Placing backlinks on foreign websites.
Hey community, What are your thoughts about placing backlinks on for example www.advertisment.de when you've got a dutch website. Is it better to link to website that are from the same country?

PR1 and PR2 backlinks
We're doing some content marketing. I've heard that it is a good idea to target even PR1 and PR2 sites (small DA sites). I'm concerned about these sites disappearing after a few months, as we've found that losing a backlink can sting a bit and be worse than never having it. Though this isn't as big a deal any more. Anyways, can somebody say when a PR1/PR2 backlink would be appropriate to go after? Some of them would be easy and if it's appropriate I'd like to include them. So far they would only pass our standards if they are Above PR0 Look like a white hat, quality site from the outside Have a clean backlink profile Look like they're going to stick around Successful Social Media Accounts a plus What are you guys' criteria for including these sites? Do you gain value from them?

Where do I get backlinks?
Three months ago I made the "foolish" decision to launch an insurance quote website (didn't think of looking into how competitive insurance websites were before investing my time, money and energy). Due to budget costs, I have been forced to learn about SEO. At this point I would say I am at the Peon level. lol. Today I signed up for SEOmoz and have found that my competitors have TENS OF THOUSANDS of backlinks. To logical people, this would be enough to throw in the towel. Not me. I'm stupid. I have spent many many hours over the last few months creating backlinks (at least I thought I was). However, I want to start targeting the sites that my competitors are using because they are getting anchor texts. How do I do this? How do websites create so many back links? Some of my competitors have 50,000 backlinks! I know this won't be done overnight. I appreciate all the help the SEOmoz community can offer a Peon like myself. One day I promise to pay it forward.

Backlinks on Facebook
Has anyone seen the benefits of adding backlinks back to their main site on their facebook page? Also, what about uploading a bunch of pictures of your products onto facebook, and on each picture putting the link directly to that specific product? Anyone know if there is any benefit in doing this? Thanks...

Quotations about importance of social media and backlinks
Hi all, I'm looking to put together a presentation on SEO and I'm wondering if anyone knows any good quotes that relate to the importance of having content on your site that people want to use and share. I'm looking for something like this: “Today’s marketing success comes from self-publishing Web content that people want to share. It’s not about gimmicks. It’s not about paying an agency to interrupt others.” David Meerman Scott “The New Rules of Marketing and PR” but ideally something that illustrates in terms of numbers how much more traffic and seo benefits a site can expect from having good guides, pdfs and news stories that people want to share. Thanks so much for any helo you can offer. thanks, David
