Very simple Link question: Ziggy Marley homepage
-
Newbie here:
My client is Zion rootswear. They need links, bad.
They have friends in high rank places, this is good.
Ziggy Marley has a link to them on his homepage:
Gear: Zion Rootswear this takes the user to the website when clicked
QUESTION
Should I have the ziggy team change it to www.zionrootswear.com?
Ill assume this is obvious, yes they should....more juice...right? I need an expert opinion.
Thanks Mozzers.

And a user's money still spends the same on the site, whether or not they came through a link that is or is not followed. Sure, would be great to have it followed, but I'd much rather have the link there and it be nofollowed than to have no link at all.
-
I hope Lewis doesn't mind my replying. You've sort of hit the nail on the head, a nofollow link looks exactly like that first bob marley link yes. That rel="nofollow" is the key.
It's not totally useless though, it does have substantially less value, but a search engine will still follow the link, it just doesn't apply the same metrics and credit it would to a normal link.
A nofollow from a reputable source is worth having, even if it's not ideal.
The link from Ziggy Marley is a nice follow link and should be very helpful.

Hey Lewis,
(Newbie here)
Here it is in it's current state:
http://www.bobmarley.com/marley_shop.php#bmm
the text in the middle is:
Official Bob Marley Merch: Zion Rootswear
Right Now, it is a nofollow, correct?
So If I make the change it should still be a no follow, right?
Thanks so much for clarification, Lewis.
WAIT! I THINK I KNOW:
If the developer places a nofollow tag, then it is useless, correct?
Sorry to keep editing my question, Lewis. As it stands now the text that links to my customer is "official Bob Marley Merch: Zion Rootswear"
The code is this:
Official Bob Marley Merch: Zion Rootswear
I do not see a no follow here, but...is the code ok here? I think it is, you can weigh in...if u have time. Thanks.

Try and make sure the link isn't a nofollow link too.

Thanks Friend!

Bob Marley Tees and accessories sounds good, but failing that (if there are space issues) Bob Marley Tees would work well.
As for the image, yes put those urls behind appropriate text, it's by far the better option. URLs by themselves pass on only a limited amount of information, the anchor text reinforces that considerably.
Everyone starts somewhere.
-
So, Tompt
You are saying I should replace the URL zionrootswear.com to "Bob Marley Tees and accessories"?
Dont use the URL, use Keywords?
(newbie)
Please see JPG I am going to forward to the Bob Marley webmaster....
Should I change this as well? I think u r right, I should...
Tell me if i should do the same. Thanks Brother!

You want the anchor text to be your keywords, simple as that. Failing that Zion Rootswear is nice because it could help indicate that it's a brand. Using the url as anchor text is close to being your last option.
Hope that helps.

What is a good ratio of total links to linking root domains?
Is 100 total links for every linking domain too high? I suppose I could also look at ratios of sites that are doing well in the rankings.

Multiple Links from High Ranking Site Vs. Links from Multiple Domains - What's More Important?
I understand it is important to get links from many quality domains. Currently, I do have links from top domains (PR, Trust) and it I can get more from (high rank) pages on these same domains. Would it be better to focus on expanding my reach (find additional domains to link from) or to continue to build links from the current domains I have a connection with? What is weighted more? I realize doing both is important, but trying to figure out how to best use my time. Thanks! David

Total Links vs Google Webmaster Site Links
I am interested why the numbers between SEOmoz and Google are so different. In SEOmoz we only show 17,000ish links from 190ish domains. In Google, we show 200,000+ links from 370 domains. Why is there such a dramatic difference?

Links from Real Estate Websites Link Page, Do or Don't?
It seems that real estate sites have at times been under heavier scrutiny from the search engines. But real estate agents get networking, which makes acquiring those links a little bit easier. Plus with localization of search, I think real estate sites may give off a good GEO scent. Should SEO's go for links from real estate websites? Does a reciprocal link devalue said links?

Back Links
Hi there, I have been guest posting on blogs trying to build some back-links into my website, which so far is going not too bad, however I was wondering when writing these guest posts should I limit my post to let's say 2 back-links per guest post? If 2 back-links are going to different pages on my website, does the first back-links in the guest post have more value than the 2nd back-link? Kind Regards,

Do sites on the same c-block and same server count as seperate linking root domains when linking to each other?
Lets say there are 50 businesses who have their website on the same server and are on the same c-block but the owners of the individual sites are different (i.e. they are all completely different sites not relevant to each other). Each of those sites are linking to each other due to a feature on the sites. This obviously increases the number of total links to each site but does it also increase the number of linking root domains? Or does this just show up as one linking root domain due to all of them being on the same server and the sharing the same c-block?
