A few thoughts on that Alex.
The first is, don't set up that redirect! In short it won't help you, for reasons such as potential duplicate content, confusing to visitors, and you'll have to choose where to link to...
If you own the original .com, then this is where your main efforts should lie. Directories, happy customers, and industry blogs will be more inclined to link to your companys site if it feels more legit.
Depending on the keyword difficulty, focus on making some linkbait content, be it a free online calculator or tool, or a free PDF download, or just some standard infographis and try distributing all of this content to relevant niche sites and social media.
In answers to your questions then;
1. Hyphens in this case will not have a negative effect on your URL. I believe Google will start clamping down on hyphenated keyword rich domains, as shown by the recent google branding serps update, but the timescale and effectiveness of this is unknown.
2. Don't go the extra mile and 301 the domain, unless you're keen on building links to both sites it's simply not worth it, focus on your main domain and optimise the landing pages for your keywords.

No hyphens will not hurt your seo. That is you won't lose ranking because you have hyphens. But it does look a little spammy and people maybe less likely to click on domains with hyphens.
Yes hypehsn will help if they are in the domain. Mainly becasue when someone links to your domain like rich-keywords.com - the keywords are already in the anchor text. But I also advise away from going after keyword rich urls, they look spammy. Webmasters will also be less likely to get back to you on link requests and partnerships.
I recommend you stay with your company domain and try to optimize that. It also makes sense to have your company name in the url.

Hey Alex,
First off, nice name
Anyways, hyphens have shown to not be of any benefit in the search engines. It has really been exact match domains (with no hyphens) that have done the best. It won't negatively impact you, but it won't help either.
What I would do is focus on building a brand. In a recent blog post by Rand here, he had a presentation going over ranking factors and it has been concluded that exact match domains don't have as much importance as they used to.
I would focus on building a brand. If you look at the SERPs today, you will see that brands are continuing to show up, as they have trust with the users, which that is what Google is looking for.
Now to become a brand in Google's eyes was covered in a PRO webinar, which you can find here. This will ultimately be the best solution for you.
That's my opinion, let me know what you think by replying to me.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Google domain search
Hello all, I'm a newbie to SEO, so you'll have to bear with me. I just started a website LangleyHomeSaerch.com a few months ago and am having trouble ranking with google. When I search "Langley Home Search" with Yahoo or Bing, it comes up on the first page. However when I search it with google it doesn't seem to rank even in the first few hundred pages. The only way I can get a match from google is if I search "Langley HomeSearch" or "LangleyHomeSearch". I know due to google's newer algorithms that there is less importance put on domain name matches, but is this normal, or is there anything I can do to improve it? Thx, Colby Langley, BC

Impact of recent On Page Optimisation changes had negative impact !
Hi I recently updated some page titles, H1 tags & on page content which overall has seen search results slip down following the first site crawl by google I assume. My question is, should I try to get back the rankings and test and change one thing at a time to see the impact right now or should i wait for a period of time for it to settle down once goggle has crawled the site a few times or will the subsequent crawls have no impact? Thanks Ash

Host name per content
Hello everyone. I'm in charge of the website HispaZone.com in which apart from many other things we provide free program downloads in spanish in a similar way to softpedia, tucows, cnet, softonic and others. I'm not a great SEO but I try to do my best. Several months ago based on my most important competence (softonic.com and uptodown.com) I decided that I would give a host name under the domain hispazone.com for the landing page of each program download. For downloading Nero for example the landing page would be http://nero.hispazone.com and like this for the whole of our 800 program database. The thing is that after 5-6 months since that change and after many other improvements, the traffic coming from google to these downloads dropped dramatically. We thought it could have been related to Google Panda but we recently hired an SEO consultant and he says that it's because of not having the downloads under the same host name. That we lose the page authority and the link flow from the hostname http://www.hispazone.com. The SEO consultant seems to be great, very up to date with all new changes in google. We made many improvements thanks to him and I can say that I trust him with everything. But now comes the time for deciding if we move our program download landing pages back to the www.hispazone.com hostname. I would like some second opinion about this because the fact that the biggest ones in Spain like Softonic and Uptodown have a hostname for each program download when these companies invest really a lot in their SEO makes me be unsure of going back into having all under the same hostname. Thanks a lot.

How is important domain age now?
Just as topic states, how important do you think domain age is? Do you think getting old domain for the new website will do any difference? Lets say website A used to sell apples... went out of business after 5 years of business. If I would get that domain and will star selling apples again can I expect some extra boost because of the age? Cheers

Google +1 link on Domain or Page?
Since its release, I've seen Google +1 being used across an entire domain but only reference the root href in the code snippet. At the same time, you see other sites use +1 more naturally with the button being specific to the page you're on. What's your take on this? To clarfiy, do you add: or .. on each page.
