Google Previews highlighting Promotions?
-
I came across this today when doing a Google search - a site that has a small promo code listed on their page shows a preview with that promo highlighted...I dug around their code a little bit, but couldn't find if it was something they were doing to manipulate their preview in the search results.
Is Google automatically highlighting promotions in previews, or did getmarried.com/magazine/ somehow manipulate the page to make their promo highlighted? And if so, how?
You can see the site at http://www.getmarried.com/magazine/ and you can see the preview with the promo highlighted attached.

No problem Kim, glad to help.

Thanks Kayden, that's it - I tried a different search term that also brought up that page as a result and that area was no longer highlighted.

It could be a little bit of both. From my research it looks like Google is highlighting parts of the page based on the keywords that were searched. For example, you search for "getmarried.com" so Google delivered up a page snippet to highlight that included "getmarried.com" in the text (they even bolded it for you).
If a website owner/developer/SEO knew what kind of keywords people are searching for on the site they could place those keywords near text that talks about the promotion. It won't always be perfect and would vary greatly on what is searched, but it could be manipulated to a degree.

Is google seeing "all" my homepage?
Hello All 🙂 Since launching my new website design - www.advanced-driving.co.uk I am not convinced Google is seeing all the content on the page. I took a long extract of text and did a search on Google and nothing was found. Also although in the search results for "advanced driving course" I can see the new title tag, the snippet isn't showing.. Is there anyway I can check this? As a scroll down I can see the URL changes ie: www.advanced-driving.co.uk

How to promote good content?
Our team just finished a massive piece of content.. very similar to the SEOmoz Begginer's Guide to SEO, but for the salon/aesthetics industry. We have a beautifully designed 10 Chapter, 50-page PDF which will require an email form submission to download. Each chapter is optimized for specific phrases, and will be separate HTML pages that are publicly available... very much like how this is setup: http://www.seomoz.org/beginners-guide-to-seo My question is, what's the best way to promote this thing? Any specific examples would be ideal. I think blogger outreach would likely be the best approach, but is there any specific way that I should be doing this?.. Again a specific start-to-finish example is what I'm looking for here. (I've read almost every outreach post on moz, so no need to reference them) Anyone care to rattle off a list of ideas with accompanying examples? (even if they seem like no-brainers.. I'm all ears)

Will Google Revisit a 403 Page
Hi, We've got some pretty strict anti-scraping logic in our website, and it seems we accidentally snared a Googlebot with it. About 100 URL requests were responded to with a 403 Forbidden error. The logic has since been updated, so this should not happen again. I was just wondering if/when Googlebot will come back and try those URLs again. They are linked from other pages on the site, and they are also in our sitemap. Thanks in advance for any assistance.
