Promoting linkbait
-
Hey Guys
Just wanted to get some friendly feedback on ways that you like to promote linkbait.
Personally, I like to:
a) develop the companies main social media channels (twitter and facebook)
b) develop accounts on digg and reddit etc
c) email journalists and blog owners who appear to be part of my clients 'linkerati'
Has anyone got any interesting approaches or strategies for getting the viral ball rolling?
-
Yes i agree, it is useful. I was, however, talking more about how we can promote pre-existing material.
-
Depends how you use them, but yes press releases and 'the press' in general is extremely useful in terms of generating publicity, promoting linkbait and attracting potential linkers.
-
Can press releases still be effective? I haven't had much success with them.
-
How about Press Release? You can pay companies like prweb.com or similar sites to do a massive press release for you. It's another for of link baiting, that gives you results. But it all depends on how viral or how good your article is to get that extra level of links you would if you got on diggs front page.
Well worth the try!

One idea you could consider is pay for StumbleUpon traffic. If enough people give it a thumbs up (hopefully it's something remarkable) then I believe you can stop paying and it will continue to be served to people. If a lot of people discover your linkbait on StumbleUpon and like it enough, they might share it on Twitter or Facebook.
-
Nice idea, I like that. Also you're right about making changes to the site; users need to be able to find useful information, talk to others about it and share it on a variety of networking sites easily.
People don't want to spend time copying links into digg and stumbleupon - they want to click a button quickly - a simple way to help get viral content moving.
-
Great question! I'm interested in see the results.
Here's what I have been doing:
-promoting on facebook
-making it really easy for others to promote (i.e. Addthis...making catchy titles that if someone saw it on facebook they'd want to click it and share it themselves.)
-contacting local news outlets
-dropping blog comments to people who are blogging about this kind of thing
And here's an important one:
-Making it super visible on my site. I just created a link baiting calculator that my users would be interested in using and sharing with others. I run an informational Q&A type of site. When users see one of my answers, at the bottom of each answer it says, "Hey, check out our ____ calculator!". I couldn't believe how many readers are clicking on it since I did that (and are sharing it on FB).
-
I like that idea - might be easier to get bloggers with strong twitter accounts to endorse the link bait.
Cheers.
-
I would also recommend trying incentivised placement - so providing an incentive for someone with a substantial following to place or advertise your linkbait on their website.
This theory also works with people who are influential within social channels too.
Thanks
Paul

How do retailers phase out short term promotional pages for best SEO?
I have a high level question and am open to all discussions. I work for a large ecommerce site and we are always making new landing pages, product assortments and promotions. We have a challenge on how to retire these pages after a promotion is outdated. What is this the MOZ community option on a way to retire, like 301 redirect to home page?

Promoting as Affiliate by Having Nofollow Links, can it hurt
Hello, we have a PR-5 site http://www.updater.in In it - we are promoting Hosting, Web development primarily acting as affiliate to these companies. All links to the best of info are marked as nofollow, but still can it hurt search rankings as visitors are been directed within seconds to the respective partner I mean - the time which a person spends is pretty low and every page is marked as Affiliate. If yes - How to get this corrected with sites acting of such nature thanks

Where to learn how best to promote content?
So now I created some really good content (with help of Egol and Peter here on moz.com) and now I need to promote it. To get it in front of authoritative sites so they hopefully will write about and link to it. I erroneously figured it would be fairly easy. I contacted two writers of a high level industry blog/magazine that previously had mentioned us in press, sent them an email with an invitation to check it out and please let me know what they thought. NO response. They probably get deluged. Anyway, I can't afford to pay a marketing company to promote it. Where can I learn how to best do this myself? The content isn't going to help anyone if no one sees it.... Thanks for any leads! Ron

Are articles still benificial and how best to promote them?
Hello, I'm trying to promote a new site doing things differently moving forward if needed in order to prevent getting google slapped while being as efficient as possible.. We have a main site which manufacturers materials. we also have a blog on blogger.com every week someone in our office writes an article about something related to our area of work and within the article has a varied keyword or two embedded within the article they are writing... My questions are as follows: -1- should be change our blog site address from oursite.blogger.com to blog.oursite.com?
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | Robdob2013
-2- would it be beneficial to have a link from our main site to the oursite.blogger.com
-3- We also have a ezine account, would it be beneficial to also post this same article perhaps with some minor changes to our ezine account so that it would start to get more visibility from other sites or is this now possibly a no no?
-4- should we be now usin nofollow links in our articles? if we do use nofollow links aren't we losing the benefit? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated0 -
How to promote good content?
Our team just finished a massive piece of content.. very similar to the SEOmoz Begginer's Guide to SEO, but for the salon/aesthetics industry. We have a beautifully designed 10 Chapter, 50-page PDF which will require an email form submission to download. Each chapter is optimized for specific phrases, and will be separate HTML pages that are publicly available... very much like how this is setup: http://www.seomoz.org/beginners-guide-to-seo My question is, what's the best way to promote this thing? Any specific examples would be ideal. I think blogger outreach would likely be the best approach, but is there any specific way that I should be doing this?.. Again a specific start-to-finish example is what I'm looking for here. (I've read almost every outreach post on moz, so no need to reference them) Anyone care to rattle off a list of ideas with accompanying examples? (even if they seem like no-brainers.. I'm all ears)

Redirecting to a temporary promotion page based on cookies
Hi, Let's say my homepage is www.xxxx.com but I want to redirect users who land on the homepage who don't already have a cookie from the site, to a temporary landing page like www.xxxx.com?AFF_ID=XXXXX as an example, how do I stop Google bot from following that redirect? I don't want Google to cache that as my homepage because I'll lose all rankings?? Thanks!
