Site problem
-
I moved a site earlier on in the year to a better server www.keyrs.co.uk, my main keywords being equity release - equity release calculator and equity release schemes.
Since this happened the ranking have gone down and the schemes and calculator terms and have hit positions 7-8 when they were 2-3. basically my question is open to all, i am looking to see what the problem is with these pages as it is driving me nuts. All tools on SEO moz show the pages are doing well, however i must be missing something.

I notice the page speed of your equity site was 60/100, a super quick fix for this is Gzip compression in HT Access (if on linux, not so quick on Windows). A little more complex would be caching rules, both will have a great beneficial effect on page speed, and hopefully SERPs too.
Best of luck, just noticed your in Lancaster! just down the road from me in Chorley!

Hi Aran,
I have donee this on the main top 5, most of the results show us ahead I have mainly used the tools in SEO moz ?? but I totally agree with you that the preventitive approach is better, it kind of all happened at once and now just trying to restore everything.

Speeding the page load time will not do any harm, but for small drops in serps I generally look at carrying out a competitive analysis on the top 5 or top 10 competitors.
-
the equity release term was at number 2 and dropped to 3. It was the other 2 that dropped places quickly too 7-8. I was wondering if I had miissed something or if there was something obvious I was missing in regard to these pages, maybe a problem with links or on page factors?
-
Yeah it could just be coincidence and the drop would have happened anyway.

Hi Mike,
It appears your not on a shared IP, which is good (checked with http://www.axandra.com/free-online-seo-tool/shared-hosting-check.php).
Page Speed shows you could improve the overall speed fairly easily with Gzip or similar and some caching rules, which may be beneficial to the UX and SERPs.
I see your at 3rd position for "Equity release" today, not 7-8. Maybe the drop was a short term fluctuation?
I'd recommend doing some competitive analysis on the competition and identify what they are doing, this allows you to be preventitive with your seo.
Cheers

i thought the same but both servers are in the uk, it was shortly after. Our old server was getting slow and site was having issues with speed. I have been doing all standard things, link building, social, updated content but it is having so little difference?
-
You kept the domain name and all the page URL's the same right?
When you say a "better" server, is it hosted in the UK, and is it a shared server? These things can make a bit of a difference.
Did the rankings drop very soon after the change?

I have created a new website and need to redirect all of the previous pages to the new one. The old website was built in coldfusion and the new site is built in wordpress. One of the pages I'm trying to redirect is www.norriseal.com/products.cfm to http://norrisealwellmark.com/products/. This is what I have in my .htaccess file <ifmodule mod_rewrite.c="">Options +FollowSymlinks

Mobile site backlinks?
Hello, Our mobile site redirects to desktop in a desktop browser and vice versa; however, they are different sites. This said, shouldn't the backlinks for our mobile site be the same as for our desktop site since one redirects to the other. We show no backlinks in my analysis? Any help or insight would be extremely appreciated! Thank you!

Micro-site homepage not being indexed
http://www.reebok.com/en-US/reebokonehome/ This is a homepage for an instructor network micro-site on Reebok.com The robots.txt file was excluding the /en-US/ directory, we've since removed that exclusion, and resubmitted this URL for indexing via Google Webmaster but we are still not seeing it in the index. Any advice would be very helpful, we may be missing some blocking issue or perhaps we just need to wait longer?

Re-using site code.
Hi, I'm looking at launching a new website, and am keen to understand whether re-using the basic code behind one of my other sites will cause me an issue. I'll be changing the directory structure/ file names, etc - but it will basically leave me with a very similar-looking site to another in my portfolio - using code thats all ready out there, etc. Thanks, David

Trailing Slash Problems
Link juice being split between trailing slash and non versions. ie. ldnwicklesscandles.com/scentsy-uk and ldnwicklesscandles.com/scentsy-uk/ Initially asked in here and was told to do a rewrite in the htaccess file. I don't have access to this with squarespace, nor can I add canonical tags on a page by page basis. 301 redirect from scentsy-uk to scentsy-uk/ didn't work either...said that the redirect wasn't completing in an error message on the browser. Squarespace hasn't been very helpful at all. My question is....is there another way to fix this? or should I just call it a day with squarespace and move to wordpress?

Adding .html To Wordpress Site
I am working on a team (my part is the SEO) where the developer added the .html extension to the permalinks. I don't understand why, on Wordpress, you would do this. Is there any benefit, or penalty for it as an SEO standpoint? I usually just set mine up %postname% as the permalink structure, but I am not the web design lead on this project. I asked the designer why, but he seems to be reluctant to answer any of my emails about his work, (like he is above that or something). Not wanting to make things worse, I dropped it and thought I would ask here since I saw a few posts in reference to it today in the forum. Is there an advantage or disadvantage (either way) to using the .html extension on a Wordpress site?

Will rankings for my micro site rank better if I 301 redirect it to my main site?
This is my first time asking so I will try to be as clear as possible. Ok, I have a micro site that is an (exact match domain) and the domain is a couple 3-4 years old and ranks very well for several search terms. The main two terms it ranks for are like this. houses for rent in XXXXX XXXXX homes for rent (XXXXX equals a city name) The issue is this site has no backlinks, zero advanced SEO, I only did basic optimization to it when i set the site up. Even site structure, url structure all are not good.
Technical SEO | | Robbie8299
The only page I have ever even seen rank is the main root url. But with all that the site does really good in the top 1-2 results for key search terms. Now, I have a main site that is a very big site that has steadily been climbing in search terms every month with great backlinks, optimized for the city and all.
It currently ranks on second page for the listed search terms listed above. What I want to do is 301 redirect this microsite to my city page on my main site that is much better optimized for the key city terms.
The 301 redirect would point this "root domain" (mymicrosite.com) to my city page that looks like this. www.mymaindomain.com/city/XXXXXXX If I do this will Google rank my main URL city page as well as it ranks this microsite with zero links, seo, etc, etc. What happens if it does not? Will I be able to turn off the 301 redirect and keep the microsite rankings? My main reason for wanting this is I want this city page to rank well and I only want to optimize one site instead of both. Any help would be great!0
