SEO LINKS
-
New to S.E.O. so excuse my naivety. I have made lots of new links some of them paid for e.g.
Best of the Web but I don’t see any change in the latest competitive link analysis. Some of the links we have been accepted for
just do not show. Also the keywords we are trying to promote the most have disappeared off the radar for over 2 weeks now. I think we have
followed the optimization suggestions correctly. Please could you enlighten me.
Regards
Paul

And is it the homepage you're going for with those keywords then? It seems to be a bit mixed up as to whether you're targeting everything at the homepage or other relevant pages.
You've got keyworded anchor text going to the pages from the homepage, but then you seem to be targeting those same keywords with the homepage itself at the same time.
-
We have changed some meta descriptions and body text and optimized as suggested in the Seo Moz On page Optimization section.
-
You've also got a lot of code in your site, before and mixed in with the content... you'd do well to externalize as much of it as possible.
-
Have there been no other changes at all except for the link building?
-
Hi Steve
We were listed in the top 50 Google results for 3 keyword phrases:- curtain poles, wooden curtain poles, and metal curtain poles.Since starting on additional link building and site optimization we have disappeared completely from the top 500 listings and I can't understand this We still appear top 50 with some other keywords phrases so I don't think we have been removed by Google.

Paul

Ah, I see...
Okay:
- Other than jumptags it looks like all of your incoming links are from directories only
- 97% (ish) of your incoming links go to your homepage only and no other pages (even the pages you're using the keywords for point only to your homepage instead of the most relevant pages for those keywords)
- Much of your anchor text is very similar, and much is the same... you can see easily what keywords you're targeting as there's no a lot of anchor text with anything other than those keywords.
Go into Open Site Explorer and check linking root domains and anchor text distribution.
Try to diversify your links a little and that should help
-
Sorry you've lost me there... what actually happened?
-
Thank you Steve,
I can understand the patience and the collaboration but not dropping out of the top 50 and not returning for the 3 major keywords we have been working at.
Regards
Paul

Hi Paul,
It can take quite a while longer than that to see anything really... SEO is a game that requires more patience than watching a race between slugs being held back.
Also, it tends to be a collaboration of stuff (especially links). Getting some links doesn't necessarily mean anything will change, the trick is to keep doing it, until it does

Linking to my Site so I should Link Back?
I remember hearing a few years ago that it was a good practice to link back to a site that was linking to you. My company's site was referenced and linked to in a news article. The news company has an above average domain authority, which is pretty good for my company's backlink profile. Is it still or was ever a "best practice" to link back to this website/domain? I feel like linking back was a best practice, but when I try to search this, all I get back is backlinking 101 and backlinking articles. Nothing really answering my question straight forward. Thanks for any help.

Is SEO effected of putting an external link in the primary navigation of a website?
I have a customer, www.xxx.com. This site has good traffic, low bounce rate (28%), 2:00 min avg time on site, and 45% return visitor rating. No spam rankings, etc. Good load time. Another site, www.yyy.com, has sent out a request for them to add them as a new link in www.xxx.com's primary navigation - using a title such as "abc" (not the name of the company or site of yyy.com). This second site, www.yyy.com, has a bounce rate of 98%, avg time on site is :30, and 10.2% return visitor rate. No spam flags noted in Open Site explorer. Plus they are asking other sites similar to www.xxx.com to do the same thing. Questions/Concerns and Feedback appreciated: Will yyy.com's analytics and quality pass back to xxx.com and cause Google or algorithms to flag or penalize xxx.com? (It ranks #1 for quite a few things.) The relevancy between the sites is good -same industry, same business objectives. From a usability standpoint, isn't it more appropriate to place a link to another website in a different way? e.g. a promotional graphic wit a link or anchor text links? Isn't it more appropriate to ask another business for links - not using the primary nav of a site? (It seems yyy.com is essentially asking other sites for 'free advertising/promotion.' Thanks!

SEO value of InDesign pages?
Hi there, my company is exploring creating an online magazine built with Adobe's InDesign toolset. If we proceeded with this, could we make these pages "as spiderable" as normal html/css webpages? Or are we limited to them being less spiderable, or not at all spiderable?

HTTP301 or link ?
We have a page on a website (let's name it ABC) which ranks very well on Google for a specific keyword but this keyword is not the main activity of website ABC. For this reason we created website XYZ for offering the services related to the specific keyword. How shall we redirect the visitors from website ABC to website XYZ so XYZ gets all the weight ? Is it best to do an HTTP301 from the specific page on site ABC or from site ABC, remove nearly all content related to the keyword and create a link to website XYZ ? Your advice is well appreciated.

OSE Link Differential
I have the chrome toolbar installed. In the SERP a site I was looking at had 686 links from 12 domains linking to the root domain. When I checked this site in OSE with filters set to all pages in root domain it shows 65 links from 12 domains. Can anyone explain the difference?
