Read More button

Hey everyone
We have a read more button always at the end of the 4th paragraph. We used it so we always have the Photos section within the area of view...

Does this harm our SEO?
Thanks in advance...

Hey Davis
Thanks a million time for you long report, we have already got rid of the Read more button. I am working on a Call to action button at the moment, its quite tricky with a clean design like that About the lack of content on the pages, do you recommend we put longer text`s or is it goo enough if we do good weekly blog posts?
best regards and thanks in advance...

Hi Joshua,
In my opinion I do not believe the read more button is a good idea, but not because of an SEO issue. I don't think it's hurting you because GoogleBot can tell the difference between a div hidden for spam and a div hidden for valid reasons. See this quote :
The goal of our guidelines against hidden text and cloaking are to ensure that a user gets the same information as the Googlebot. However, our definition of webspam is dependent on the webmaster's intent. For example, common sense tells us that not all hidden text means webspam--e.g. hidden DIV tags for drop-down menus are probably not webspam, whereas hidden DIVs stuffed full of unrelated keywords are more likely to indicate webspam.
That being said, I do not think the "Read More" button is a good idea in your particular case for the following reasons :
- Your pages are a bit lacking in content. You should be trying to beefing them up a bit, you are on the right track but could definitely use some improvement. In most cases it seems like the "Read More" button is only hiding one or two sentences.
- If you want the photo section to always be in view I would recommend putting it in the sidebar or somehow off to the side. I am running on a MacBook Pro at 1680x1050 and the "Read More" button is not even on my screen, much less the photos section.
- I can't find any discernable call-to-action on the pages, as a user i'm sort of unsure of the purpose of the site is aside from information. If this is what you intended then more power to you, but it's always good to give the users some kind of action to follow, whether that be contacting you for a brochure, or booking a reservation. Ann Smarty has a great article on how to do this.
If I were in your position I would nix the read more button, go with a 2 column layout and put the call to action in a very obvious spot in a color that stands out. Maybe a big button with text that says "Learn to surf for only $35" or something.
I hope this helped and sorry if my advice was not what you are expecting!

The particular page cannot be indexed by Google
Hello, Smart People!
On-Page Optimization | | Viktoriia1805
We need help solving the problem with Google indexing.
All pages of our website are crawled and indexed. All pages, including those mentioned, meet Google requirements and can be indexed. However, only this page is still not indexed.
Robots.txt is not blocking it.
We do not have a tag "nofollow"
We have it in the sitemap file.
We have internal links for this page from indexed pages.
We requested indexing many times, and it is still grey.
The page was established one year ago.
We are open to any suggestions or guidance you may have. What else can we do to expedite the indexing process?1 -
On-page SEO
This is a question for the organic SEO experts, once you added the main keyword that you want to rank for in the homepage title, meta title plus meta description, perhaps once or twice in the text on the homepage. How often do you then write it in the content marketing, say blog posts, we want to rank higher on Google for "SEO agencies Cardiff" however if you mention this in the blog posts too much say once a week, this could lead to over optimisation issues?

Content hidden behind a 'read all/more..' etc etc button
Hi Anyone know latest thinking re 'hidden content' such as body copy behind a 'read more' type button/link in light of John Muellers comments toward end of last year (that they discount hidden copy etc) & follow up posts on Search Engine Round Table & Moz etc etc ? Lots of people were testing it and finding such content was still being crawled & indexed so presumed not a big deal after all but if Google said they discount it surely we now want to reveal/unhide such body copy if it contains text important to the pages seo efforts. Do you think it could be the case that G is still crawling & indexing such content BUT any contribution that copy may have had to the pages seo efforts is now lost if hidden. So to get its contribution to SEO back one needs to reveal it, have fully displayed ? OR no need to worry and can keep such copy behind a 'read more' button/link ? All Best Dan

Meta descriptions
Whats the deal with the date at the start of the meta descriptions? I have not really looked into this but I'm guessing its a blog thing? Take this search http://www.google.co.uk/search?aq=f&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=6packproject#hl=en&xhr=t&q=interview+with+paul+knight&cp=26&pf=p&sclient=psy&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=interview+with+paul+knight&pbx=1&fp=835cd241c8d51fff The beautifully crafted meta description is now being cut short even though its within the character limit and is now only showing 36 characters! Is there a way to remove this? Thanks in advance
