Keywords for homepage and product categories
-
My homepage explains the different electrical equipment our company sells, our main product category page also does the same but in more detail.
I'm stuck where I feel the homepage and product category page need to be optimised for the same keyword except the homepage needs to be optimised for our company name too.
Was anyone else in the same situation as me and how did you choose the right keyword between two pages that have the same message?
-
I would suggest optimizing your home page for your company name and your product category page for the equipment. When discussing your product keyword on your company page, offer anchor link text to your main product category so search engines are clear which page you wish to rank for the term.
At least until you are ranked #1 for the most important term, you don't want to get caught in a battle between two of your own pages where both suffer.

Consider targeting a little more broad version of the keyword on the homepage? And a little more specific on the product category page?

What keywords does the competition have?
I know this might be a long shot. I've been working on my google rankings and am first for a few keywords but still seeing quite low traffic. Is there a tool that allows me to see what keywords my competition is receiving high levels of traffic from? Thanks Dan

Specific Keyword Ranking Advice
Hi Folks, We're trying to optimize the page (http://alabu.com/goat-milk-soap/) for the keyword "goat milk soap". Our page used to rank #1 before Panda (actually our home page did, not the page I'm trying to optimize on now). Now we're around rank 25. I've followed all the guidelines for on-page optimization I know, and I've done everything I can think of. We're currently executing a link building campaign but that obviously takes time. Does anyone have any advice? Is there anything else I can do to improve our ranking? Thanks, Hal

Keyword Research (dash or no dash)
I have a client that has been optimizing for "print and apply" for the past 5 months. Yesterday they decided it was more grammatically correct to use "print-and-apply." There question to me was "is this going to effect our SEO?" So... I checked the difficulty using the keyword analysis tool, both keywords had the same broad/exact adwords traffic as well as difficulty percentage. When reviewing the top 25 listings for each keyword it looks like the same sites rank in the SERPs between 1-8 and then after that it is completely different. So, is there a better keyword to target? Are these two keywords different enough to truly have separate search results?

The top 8 results didn't even target "print-and-apply" in there content or title tags... Thanks for the input/discussion - Kyle0 -
Google Analytics - Long keywords
Hi All, Question for you Google Analytics pros. In the keywords section of my account I see the various words that have been used to find my site. The top entry shows a big long line of text from my site and I wondered why this appears on the keywords. e.g Lets say I had "Today I went to the shops and bought a football" In the keywords I would normally expect to see 'football', 'shops' etc but instead I am actually seeing things like " went to the shops and bought a football". What causing this? Thanks all
