Addthis widget tracking success
-
Hi All,
How do I know if people are using an addthis widget setup on product pages. The widget seems to be in an annoying location for me personally and I want to move it or replace it with just a few social media buttons.
-
How do I track its effectiveness?
-
Would you use Addthis widget or manual buttons on ecommerce?
Thanks in advance!

You guys are great, Thanks. I'm amazed by your response times and even AddThis came back to me by email in under a minute.

How do I track AddThis effectiveness?
AddThis offers analytics on their website. They will also email reports to you as per a schedule you establish on their site.

You should have complete control over the location the widget appears along with the size and composition of the widget.
My default preference is to offer the following buttons: facebook, twitter, google +1, preference 1, bookmark, mail, addthis. To clarify, these are all provided from the addthis widget. You can add or remove any button as desired. The most popular buttons you want to appear while the less popular buttons would require the user to hover over or click on the addthis button to access over 300 other social sharing tools.
Would you use Addthis widget or manual buttons on ecommerce?
Yes. Social sharing can give a significant lift to SEO and sales.

How do I track its effectiveness?
AddThis has analytics for your account. You can go in there and see what is getting shared, what service it is shared by and a lot more. If you change location of the widget you can see if it changed the number of actions that you are getting.
You can even see how many people click on the shares via facebook. If it gets more than 100% rate they call it "viral".
Would you use Addthis widget or manual buttons on ecommerce?
We have add this on every page of every important site that we own - retail and information. We have it at two locations on every page of our information site. The big buttons in the header and smaller buttons within content.

I dont use Addthis, but do you not have an admin area to track clicks?
Try and always keep Social up high where possible, unless it isn't feasible

Anyone know how to successfully add a Facebook RSS Feed to a website?
Our webmaster is having trouble adding a Facebook RSS Feed to our homepage, but we'd really like one to display our recent posts with photos. Anyone have suggestions, or a link to directions that have proven successful? Thanks!

FB Sharing Contest Tracking Question?
We are going to give-a-way a PS4 through a social media contest. Likes, g+ circles and shares, but I wasn't sure if there was a problem tracking shares. I always thought I could just look at my FB posts and it would say how many shares. All I want to do is people to give someone an extra entry for sharing one of my post on his or her FB page. However, I've read that tracking shares can be difficult. I think the shares that are difficult to track are the ones beyond what I need, like if a 3rd party shared it or something, but I'm not sure. I want the contest to be as accurate as possible. Can anybody confirm or correct my thinking, please? Happy Thanksgiving Eve! Ruben

SEO and AddThis implementation question
We recently implemented AddThis social sharing on our Website. I am seeing an undesirable side-effect. In Firefox and Chrome browsers, some kind of tracking snippet appears to be appending to our URLs. This is not happening in IE (or if it is it isn't visible). I am concerned about how these URLs look in the address bar to our visitors and I'm also worried about potential duplicate content issues arising when a spider crawls the site. It appears to only be an issue with our product detail pages. The category pages all seem fine. [I am sure this is because social sharing button are only installed on the product pages]. Here is an example: http://www.ccisolutions.com/StoreFront/product/williams-sound-personal-pa-377#.UFnvkVG-7Aw This URL should be: http://www.ccisolutions.com/StoreFront/product/williams-sound-personal-pa-377 Is there a workaround for this problem? Has anyone else experienced this issue and found a solution? Thanks!

Does anyone have any recommendations for Q&A widgets that can integrate into my ecommerce site?
I am managing an ecommerce site with over 1000 SKUs. Does anyone know of any Q&A widgets we can add to our site for individual products where customers ask questions and moderator can answer them? FYI I'm looking for something similar to Golfsmith.com, which has a great tool q&a tool.

Sharethis vs addthis
We currently use Sharethis, but I've noticed many sites using Addthis for sharing. Is there any preference or reason to use one more than the other?

I just discovered something about Addthis shares, Twitter, and rel-canonical.
Let's say I have a page on my site with the url www.mydomain.com/page1.php?id=234. Let's say it can be accessed by the url www.mydomain.com/page-this-is-a-keyword-rich-url And let's say that the second example is what I have set as my rel-canonical. I wondered what would happen when people submitted the non-canonical url to twitter. We know that Twitter shares count for something in SEO. I didn't want things to go to waste if people were landing on my short urls and sharing them on Twitter. Well, tonight, I shared one of my own urls on Twitter. I was accidentally on the short one (not the canonical), but when I shared it via addthis the long one was shared. So, Addthis must read the canonical and use this to share. Very cool. At least to me. I may possibly be the only person on the planet that understands what I just wrote, but this is a neat discovery for me.
