Posting youtube videos on your site-use irframe or "old embed code"
-
If you choose "embed" now, youtube gives you the choice of using an iframe:
<iframe width="430" height="352" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/0-nKXALtHWs?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe>
or, the old embed code:
<object width="430" height="352"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/0-nKXALtHWs?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/0-nKXALtHWs?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="430" height="352" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></object>
Is either better when it comes to seo?

This is really exciting! I've configured the code to put a line after the video that says, "Want this video on your website? Here's the code:" and then if they use the code intact it will show the video with a line underneath that says, "Courtesy of mywebsite."
-
Perfectly possible. YouTube is a service where you host your videos, but the main "screen" is your site, so it is also "ethically" permitted (if you value the ethic in links).
In the case of a video which is not yours... you can configure the code to show two links: to the author youtube page and to your site.
-
I would also check out www.wistia.com where you can also track stats for the video.
-
Gianluca, that is an incredible find! That article is talking about adding a link back to your youtube channel when people choose to embed the code from your site. But, what if you gave your viewers embed code that contained a link saying, "Video shared by www.yourwebsite.com"? with a link back to your site???
-
Depends... if your blog/site has a big volume of visit from mobile, the iframe is surely the best option, because - if I am not wrong - that way you are sure that users will actually see the video in their mobile device.
But, if I've to choose, I would choose the old embed code until it is available. The reason? This awesome trick explained in this old post by Paddy Moogan in the Distilled blog: Getting Links and SEO Value from your YouTube Video; a trick that needs the old embed code to work.
Finally, whatever you choose, don't forget to create the video sitemaps.
-
I would imagine that it doesn't really make a difference. There is no textual content for the bots to read (unless you write out the transcript for the video) so theoretically, each of these would return the same SEO result.

B2b services site, deep long tail services or flat and broad
Hi all, i have a small internet agency with services in several area's.
Content Development | | mdkay
Currently i structud my services in 2 different area's.
General services and specialized products with services underneath. like so:
domain.com/services
domain.com/services/service1
domain.com/services/service2
and so on. domain.com/product
domain.com/product/service1
domain.com/product/service2 domain.com/product2
domain.com/product2/service1
domain.com/product2/service2 But now im thinking of create loads of different services i provide,
there are some overlapping content of course, but all services are still individual.
But i can write a lot of unique content about all the services. But is it smarter to make just a few big pages with the services more bundled.
Or really long tail. Now i have around 15 services pages.
when i make it a lot deeper im talking about 40 pages. Currently my complete website is around 35 pages.0 -

Will a comment section on my site help with seo
I have never been a fan of comment pages such as the sun http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/tv/4783642/bruce-willis-appears-on-the-one-show-in-awkward-interview.html but i was told the other day that not only is it good for the reader but it is also good for seo and increase the number of times that google would visit the page and i would like to know if that is true. if you have added a comment section to your articles i would like to know if you have noticed any change.

How does one write different pages of their website that are very similar in nature with using too much duplicate content?
We are a service provider and we have different links on our website to each of our services. The problem is the content that we would have for each is very similar. How can I ensure that it is not deemed duplicate content and ranked poorly because of it. Thanks

Multiple Domains pointing to one site?
Due to takeovers, different strategies and a certain amount of historical lack of control, we have a dozen sites covering many different specialist areas of our business. To make things easier to manage, we are thinking of merging website content, then repointing some of the domains to the new section within the larger website. The content on each site is all different, but the subject matter is sometimes the same. This will make content, design and management much easier. We propose to choose the best content, then repoint the underperforming domains. Is there an seo risk of having many domains pointing to one site?

How to best implement "metered model" on a site
Hi, I'm scratching my head over how to best implement the "metered model" on a site without users being able to game it all too easily. Has anybody in this QA forums implemented one before and is willing to share his/her best practises and findings? Currently I think raising the bar to force everybody to login is a bad idea + we would still need to open the site for google and other engines and can be tricked that way. Also this might lead to some penalty (cloaking)? Using cookies might not be enought as I think almost every Internet user these days knows that this might be the #1 place to look and they are deleted in a second. Counting based on a users IP-adress is also a bit critical as this is not accurate enough. Should we just use cookies and hope for the best?
