Information being added before meta description

On the search engine results page I am finding that information has been added before my meta description - this is only a recent flaw and I've no idea how it can be caused.
It is happening in the same format as you see dates sometimes before meta descriptions.
This is what is actually being shown on the search engine results page. I am getting this text - Product 1 - 15 of 18 – then my meta description after that.
The words 'Product 1 - 15 of 18' is in the heading at the top of the page but it is in no way interacting with the meta description. It looks like Google is confusing the words 'Product 1 - 15 of 18' with a date possibly.
Any suggestions.

Thanks for your reply. I have removed the header already that seems to be causing the issue. Will let you know if it resolves it but I suspect it will.

I strongly suspect you're right about Google mixing up those numbers with a date format, but I don't have a foolproof solution. You may have to experiment: (1) Try moving it to the bottom, (2) Use more search-oriented text like "Results 1-15 of 18", (3) Take out any header tags or other code that might emphasize the text (use a regular
to style it).

I think its something to do with a Google algo update because I've noticed this with other sites using shopping carts. If you type in inurl:inurl:.cart.php?m=product_list you will find lots of sites with the same issue - even when they are not light on content.

Is the page lacking content so that's the only thing Google can scrape?

Thanks for your reply. It is causing a decrease in CTR - that's how I noticed the fault at first. Any idea how I would stop this?

Sounds like your pagination is being used by Google.

Meta description not showing in search results
Hi, One of my client's websites is not showing its Meta descriptions in search results. Meta descriptions for subpages in the SERPs
Hey Mozzers! Something occurred to me the other day was that, while we can write title tags and meta descriptions to be within the character count and therefore appear nice and neatly in the SERPs, when Google et al decide to pull subpages out as further site links, it seems to still pull the normal meta description but with a far lower character count. As this looks untidy and could potentially impact CTR, is there a way I can amend the preferred text for the shortened version, via Webmaster Tools, for example? Thanks in advance for your help! Adding meta description tags to Drupal 6 content
It looks as if a quick improvement to the (inherited) site that I manage would be to add meta description tags to all our pages. But I don't see a user-friendly way to modify the html headers from within Drupal. I'm debating whether to interpose CSS code between Drupal and the final html content, but I'd face a steep learning curve on CSS. Can you suggest a more excellent approach? Thanks!

How often should ecommerce category and product descriptions be rewritten?
We are a 15 year old ecommerce company. Most of our category descriptions are about 3 years old. Our product descriptions are 5-8 years old. While our category pages still rank well in Google our product pages have dropped significantly over time. How often should product page descriptions be rewritten so they do not become stale to Google? We have about 1,000 products on the site. If we rewrite them we are thinking about 250 words each. Confused about meta tags.
(Ok, this might be a stupid question.) I am a little confused about the best practice for the Meta Tag. I know they don't have a real effect on ranking. But I am getting "mixed signals" as to their general use. I've pasted the 2 examples of below that are confusing me. From my Campaign's Crawl Diagnostics: (I have missing Meta Tags) "Meta description tags, while not important to search engine rankings, are extremely important in gaining user click-through from search engine result pages (SERPs). These short paragraphs are the webmaster's opportunity to advertise content to searchers and let them know exactly what the given page has with regard to what they're looking for" From The Keyword Optimization Tool: (Avoid Using Meta Keyword Tool) "Search engines have, for years, ignored the meta keywords tag as a ranking signal. Although it technically does not harm rankings, it can be used by competitors as a method to extract your targeted terms and thus, we recommend against its use. " I would love to hear opinions on this topic. I am trying to decide wether or not to use unique meta tags on every blog post.
