Optimize flash site
-
Hello,
How can we optimize a site like this - http://www.ziba.com.au/ . The whole site is in flash. What are the alternatives ?
-
I'll be looking forward to reading the full article.

It goes like this
1. you have to extract all of the text content and picture into external source first, for example the text all put into mysql and the pictures are on separate jpeg file
2. you can then program your flash to load that data externally
3. after that you can create a HTML version that utilize those text data (from database) and images (from that jpeg files) , this way whenever you change the data inside your HTML , the data on your flash changes too
4. You have to try display EVERYTHING in html first
5. for example , when people go to xyz.com it will open the HTML first, with all navigation menu available... you optimize this site first ....
6. after the HTML is working perfectly, you can then simply put all of that html under a div that we will override using SWFObject (when a flash player detected)
for example
ALL HTML Content goes here, it will be safely overriden by SWFObject when Flash is detected..
that is all i can say for now... I really wish my blog post has been approved so that you can read the detailed method with picture to guide you through your mission on making your flash movie seo friendly..
REMEMBER to make a site SEO friendly, you have no other choice but to create a HTML Site first, after that override it with FLASH (when flash is detected)... and remember to put all data on EXTERNAL SOURCE, NEVER EVER inside the flash movie
http://ikt.co.id my site has ranked well on many keywords like "bikin website" , "flash seo" , and many others (only on google.co.id) , so i know this method works PERFECTLY

ups... that means only i can read it for now xD

When i opened the URL, it says post not found !

A quick google search revealed this document, http://www.otterball.com/NET191.tut_flash.pdf and this one: http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=72746
But I would think again about the flash thing atleast make an alternative option, why? because more and more traffic is moving to tablets, phones etc. And since iPhones and iPads don't understand flash, because apple are frigging idiots (very biased and angry statement i know you wouldn't want to lose potential clients. I recommend going for a javascript/HTML5 + flash solution. Provide a flsh site for old desktop/laptop computers with old browsers and a HTML5/javascript solution for the iPhones and iPads.
Simply put:
- If HTML5 support redirect to HTML5/Javascript site
- If no HTML5 support redirect to flash site.
Hope it helped. To end my rant here a clip from googles faq:
Q: What are the current technical limitations of Google's ability to index Flash?
There are three main limitations at present, and we are already working on resolving them:1. Googlebot does not execute some types of JavaScript. So if your web page loads a Flash file via JavaScript, Google may not be aware of that Flash file, in which case it will not be indexed.
2. We currently do not attach content from external resources that are loaded by your Flash files. If your Flash file loads an HTML file, an XML file, another SWF file, etc., Google will separately index that resource, but it will not yet be considered to be part of the content in your Flash file.
3. While we are able to index Flash in almost all of the languages found on the web, currently there are difficulties with Flash content written in bidirectional languages. Until this is fixed, we will be unable to index Hebrew language or Arabic language content from Flash files. We're already making progress on these issues, so stay tuned!

you can not open that page?
i can already open that page and read the content xD
-
I will be eagerly waiting for that.

Thanks.
Can we prepare html version of the flash site ? The client is o.k with this.

OK, I was going to discuss some techniques which can be employed with Flash but this site hardly has any content and it's all very visual. User experience / navigation could be improved as well.
http://www.google.com.au/search?q=site%3Awww.ziba.com.au shows a few URLs in index. What confuses me is why go from index to main - what does that achieve?
Options you have are:
Focus on TITLE & Meta description in combination with inbound links.
If you can add some descriptive text under flash which would explain to search engines (and users who do not support flash) what the site is about including basic contact information.

Optimize code
Hi Guy's, In Wordpress we've got the plugin "WP Rocket". It's possible to optimize CSS, JS, HTML and Google Fonts. If i optimize (minify) CSS and JS the website will load faster and the pagespeed will be reduced. So i guess that's always better for SEO results en SERPS... But what will happen if i optimize my HTML code? It will be much shorter but less organized. Will this also affect SEO results and rankings? I'm awear that less code will increase my text ratio, but don't know if Google will punish the website for having a code that's not very good organized. Thanks!

Does Site Structure Affect Google
Hi - I'm pretty new at this. We’re running an e-commerce affiliate site at http://www.mydomain.com. So we don’t take payments but customer gets passed through to third party sites when they select to buy a product. We have a blog at http://www.mydomain.com/news. I think Google is treating these 2 sites as as separate sites for PR. For this reason we're thinking about moving this to http://news.mydomain.com. Anyone have any experience in this?

On-site adjustment opinions
Hi folks, I've got a fairly interesting scenario. I'm trying to rank this page (http://www.staysa.co.za/sa/1-2-0-0-1/East-London/accommodation) better for the term, "accommodation east london". The client isn't keen on making many changes and it was built horribly with ASP, half CMS, half not. I have made the following changes today: I introduced two paragraphs of text below the H1 tag. I changed "East London Bed and Breakfast", "East London Conference Venues", "East London Cottage / Chalet" to just "Bed and Breakfast", "Conference Venues", "Cottage / Chalet" as the continual key phrase duplication in my experience is a bad move. I've made a change to the title tag (this is a huge mission as it's not CMS controlled, so I had to teach myself some basic ASP to do so). Meta data.. nightmare to change unfortunately, at least not without rewriting part of the CMS. I'm wondering, are there any other on-site factors that I'm missing? I'm not a fan of site-wide links, so I don't want to put an exact match anchor text link from the sidebar/footer to the page, not unless someone can motivate why I should. Keen to hear everyone's opinions 🙂

What to do next with my site gamblingsites.co
So I have this site gamblingsites.co, which I launched about a year ago (I think.) This used to be internetgamblingsites.net (a domain I bought, but never managed to get in the index, and it appeared to violate the T/Cs after asking in GWMT) and before that the site used to be casinowarehouse.eu. After moving to gamblingsites.co, the pages were indexed almost instantly. I kept a 301 in place until today as I had some links pointing to internetgamblingsites.net. Now, until a few weeks ago, everything was fine. The site was ranking top 10 for gambling sites (8-10) and I had some traffic everyday. This site wasn't my top priority, so besides adding new unique content, I didn't do much with it. In each case no shady link building or what-so-ever. On February first of this year, however, it lost all of its rankings, and I have no idea why. Much worse site appear in the top 50, where a sub page of my site appears somewhere on the 9th SERP for keyword 'gambling sites.' Last week I started contacting some people and asked them to update my links. I also used my own sites (all on unique hosting accounts) to build some branded links, i.e. 'GamblingSites.co' and similar terms to down tune the exact match. I also decreased the instances of the exact match on the homepage, to avoid over optimization. Finally, I removed the 301 from internetgamblingsites.net, since the better links have been changed (or are about to get changed soon.) Now, couple of days later... no changes, but it's probably to early to judge. My question to you: "What would you do next, to try to save the site and at least get some traffic to it?" Thank you for your help, Giorgio PS: Feel free to ask for more information.

How should I structure a site with multiple addresses to optimize for local search??
Here's the setup: We have a website, www.laptopmd.com, and we're ranking quite well in our geographic target area. The site is chock-full of local keywords, has the address properly marked up, html5 and schema.org compliant, near the top of the page, etc. It's all working quite well, but we're looking to expand to two more locations, and we're terrified that adding more addresses and playing with our current set-up will wreak havoc with our local search results, which we quite frankly currently rock. My question is 1)when it comes time to doing sub-pages for the new locations, should we strip the location information from the main site and put up local pages for each location in subfolders? 1a) should we use subdomains instead of subfolders to keep Google from becoming confused? Should we consider simply starting identically branded pages for the individual locations and hope that exact-match location-based urls will make up for the hit for duplicate content and will overcome the difficulty of building a brand from multiple pages? I've tried to look for examples of businesses that have tried to do what we're doing, but all the advice has been about organic search, which i already have the answer to. I haven't been able to really find a good example of a small business with multiple locations AND good rankings for each location. Should this serve as a warning to me?

Why did our site drop in Google rankings?
My site's URL (web address) is: http://tinyurl.com/3svn2l9 Hi there, We operate a travel site that lists numerous tours, accommodation and activities. Since 6th August 2011 we have dropped from top 10 SERP rankings of our pages to around result number 100 (page 10) and losing massive amount of visitors via Google Search. Our Yahoo and Bing rankings are still in the top10. We need your advice and quick! The last changes we have made are the following: -redirected the non-www version to the www version on the 1st August -bought advertising with a follow link in a sidebar that is being populated across the site (+4000 pages) about 2 months ago -added a blog to the website 2 weeks ago and posted 2 posts to date. Additionally, our website structure allows visitors (and bots) to see the same listings via different URLs which caused duplicate content. This has been the case since the launch of our website about 1 year ago. To prevent this duplicate content we have placed canonical tags on the individual listings pages. Why did our site all of a sudden plummet in the rankings?

What are some of the negative effects of having duplicate content from other sites?
This could include republishing several articles from another site with permission.
