Optimize flash site
-
Hello,
How can we optimize a site like this - http://www.ziba.com.au/ . The whole site is in flash. What are the alternatives ?
-
I'll be looking forward to reading the full article.

It goes like this
1. you have to extract all of the text content and picture into external source first, for example the text all put into mysql and the pictures are on separate jpeg file
2. you can then program your flash to load that data externally
3. after that you can create a HTML version that utilize those text data (from database) and images (from that jpeg files) , this way whenever you change the data inside your HTML , the data on your flash changes too
4. You have to try display EVERYTHING in html first
5. for example , when people go to xyz.com it will open the HTML first, with all navigation menu available... you optimize this site first ....
6. after the HTML is working perfectly, you can then simply put all of that html under a div that we will override using SWFObject (when a flash player detected)
for example
ALL HTML Content goes here, it will be safely overriden by SWFObject when Flash is detected..
that is all i can say for now... I really wish my blog post has been approved so that you can read the detailed method with picture to guide you through your mission on making your flash movie seo friendly..
REMEMBER to make a site SEO friendly, you have no other choice but to create a HTML Site first, after that override it with FLASH (when flash is detected)... and remember to put all data on EXTERNAL SOURCE, NEVER EVER inside the flash movie
http://ikt.co.id my site has ranked well on many keywords like "bikin website" , "flash seo" , and many others (only on google.co.id) , so i know this method works PERFECTLY

ups... that means only i can read it for now xD

When i opened the URL, it says post not found !

A quick google search revealed this document, http://www.otterball.com/NET191.tut_flash.pdf and this one: http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=72746
But I would think again about the flash thing atleast make an alternative option, why? because more and more traffic is moving to tablets, phones etc. And since iPhones and iPads don't understand flash, because apple are frigging idiots (very biased and angry statement i know
you wouldn't want to lose potential clients. I recommend going for a javascript/HTML5 + flash solution. Provide a flsh site for old desktop/laptop computers with old browsers and a HTML5/javascript solution for the iPhones and iPads.
Simply put:
- If HTML5 support redirect to HTML5/Javascript site
- If no HTML5 support redirect to flash site.
Hope it helped. To end my rant here a clip from googles faq:
Q: What are the current technical limitations of Google's ability to index Flash?
There are three main limitations at present, and we are already working on resolving them:1. Googlebot does not execute some types of JavaScript. So if your web page loads a Flash file via JavaScript, Google may not be aware of that Flash file, in which case it will not be indexed.
2. We currently do not attach content from external resources that are loaded by your Flash files. If your Flash file loads an HTML file, an XML file, another SWF file, etc., Google will separately index that resource, but it will not yet be considered to be part of the content in your Flash file.
3. While we are able to index Flash in almost all of the languages found on the web, currently there are difficulties with Flash content written in bidirectional languages. Until this is fixed, we will be unable to index Hebrew language or Arabic language content from Flash files. We're already making progress on these issues, so stay tuned!

you can not open that page?
i can already open that page and read the content xD
-
I will be eagerly waiting for that.

OK, I was going to discuss some techniques which can be employed with Flash but this site hardly has any content and it's all very visual. User experience / navigation could be improved as well.
http://www.google.com.au/search?q=site%3Awww.ziba.com.au shows a few URLs in index. What confuses me is why go from index to main - what does that achieve?
Options you have are:
Focus on TITLE & Meta description in combination with inbound links.
If you can add some descriptive text under flash which would explain to search engines (and users who do not support flash) what the site is about including basic contact information.

Optimize code
Hi Guy's, In Wordpress we've got the plugin "WP Rocket". It's possible to optimize CSS, JS, HTML and Google Fonts. If i optimize (minify) CSS and JS the website will load faster and the pagespeed will be reduced. So i guess that's always better for SEO results en SERPS... But what will happen if i optimize my HTML code? It will be much shorter but less organized. Will this also affect SEO results and rankings? I'm awear that less code will increase my text ratio, but don't know if Google will punish the website for having a code that's not very good organized. Thanks!

Does my "spam" site affect my other sites on the same IP?
I have a link directory called Liberty Resource Directory. It's the main site on my dedicated IP, all my other sites are Addon domains on top of it. While exploring the new MOZ spam ranking I saw that LRD (Liberty Resource Directory) has a spam score of 9/17 and that Google penalizes 71% of sites with a similar score. Fair enough, thin content, bunch of follow links (there's over 2,000 links by now), no problem. That site isn't for Google, it's for me. Question, does that site (and linking to my own sites on it) negatively affect my other sites on the same IP? If so, by how much? Does a simple noindex fix that potential issues? Bonus: How does one go about going through hundreds of pages with thousands of links, built with raw, plain text HTML to change things to nofollow? =/

Why is Google not indexing my site?
I'm a bit confused as to why my site just isn't indexing on Google. Even if I type in my brand name, my social channels rank and there's no evidence of my website. I've followed all of the advice I've read and gone into webmaster tools and got the Wordpress yoast plug-in but nothing seems to be making a difference! One thing I've noticed, in Google Webmaster Tools it says "Couldn’t communicate with the DNS server." in site errors. I've called GoDaddy and they said that everything is fine. A bit frustrating. Trying to work out what my next steps should be but feeling a bit lost to be honest! Any help GREATLY appreciated!

Cross links between sites
hi, We have several ecommerce sites and we cross linked 3 of them by mistake. We realize that the sites were linked through WMT, We have shut down 2 of the sites about 2 months ago, but WMT still shows the links coming from those 2 sites. how do we make sure that google will see the sites are shut down. Is there a better of way resolving this issue. We are no longer using those sites, so do not need them to be active. whats the best solution to show google that the links are no longer there. Crawler shows that it was able to crawl the site 45 days after it is shut down. thanks nick

How do you find bad links to your site?
My website has around 900 incoming links and I have a Google 50 penalty that is sitewide. I have been doing research and from what I can see is that the 50 penalty is usually associated with scetchy links. The penalty started last year. I had about 40 related domains to my main site and each had a simple one page site with a link to the main site. (I know I screwed up) I cleaned up all of those links by removing them. The single page site still exist, but they have no links and several of them still rank very well. I also had an outside SEO person that bought a few links. I came clean with Google and told them everything. I gave them all of my sites and that the SEO person had bought links. I gave them full disclosure and removed everything. I have one site that I can't get the link removed from. I have contacted them numerous times to remove the link and I get no response. I am curious if anyone has had a simular experience and how they corrected the situation. Another issue is that my site is "thin" because its an ecommerce affiliate site and full of affiliate links. I work in the costume market. I'm also afraid that I have other bad links pointing to my site. Dooes anyone know of a tool to identify bad links that Google may be penalizing me for at this time. Here is Google's latest denial of my reconsideration request. Dear site owner or webmaster of XXXXXXXXX.com. We received a request from a site owner to reconsider XXXXXXXX.com for compliance with Google's Webmaster Guidelines. We've reviewed your site and we believe that some or all of your pages still violate our quality guidelines. In order to preserve the quality of our search engine, pages from XXXXXXXXXX.com may not appear or may not rank as highly in Google's search results, or may otherwise be considered to be less trustworthy than sites which follow the quality guidelines. If you wish to be reconsidered again, please correct or remove all pages that are outside our quality guidelines. When such changes have been made, please visit https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/reconsideration?hl=en and resubmit your site for reconsideration. If you have additional questions about how to resolve this issue, please see our Webmaster Help Forum for support. Sincerely, Google Search Quality

Site Hosting Question
We are UK based web designers who have recently been asked to build a website for an Australian Charity. Normally we would host the website in the UK with our current hosting company, but as this is an Australian website with an .au domain I was wondering if it would be better to host it in Australia. If it is better to host it in Australia, I would appreciate if someone could give me the name of a reasonably priced hosting company. Thanks Fraser

How much of an issue is it if a site is somehow connected to a site that was penalized by Google?
I am working with someone that is about to launch a new site, and one of the sites was affected by the Panda update. Does it matter if the two sites are connected? Share the same hosting provider and same Google Webmaster's account?
