Facebook PPC - Number of Clicks According to FB Different Than Visits in Analytics?
-
Hi There
So I was trying out my first FB ads with a client.
I see according to FB there were 105 clicks. But according to google analytics there were only 69 visits. I am counting visits from facebook.com and apps.facebook.com
Any reason for this discrepancy, or any tips? Am I missing something?
Thanks!

Does this hold true for Google Adwords? I am practically experiencing the same issues but with Adwords and Analytics.

Yes, thanks guys! Great info. I'm sort of new to any PPC at all - but in the article Daniel linked to, it took me here to the URL builder tool, which I'd never played around with before. But this is exactly what I was looking for.

Daniel is making all the right points. One important thing to remember that conceptually FB clicks and GA visits are calculated differently. For FB, a click is a click. It's going through their system so it's easy for them to accurately track clicks. On the GA side, a visit is contingent on a user having JS/cookies enabled. Although almost most devices will meet that requirement, GA also has to be told what source they came from. FB ads (and other ad networks) will commonly use redirects because it's their method of tracking clicks before sending the user to the destination. These redirects might cause issues because it may confuse the referrer being passed. That's why building GA campaign tagged URLs will help alleviate that.

Right back at you.
Another possibility is the way Facebook shortens URLs:
"this is quite frequent problem. I guess that you click in FB and visits in GA will never be the same, but this difference is really huge.
From what I've heard, Facebook is using its own URL shortening methods for treating the outbound links such as Ads. The trouble is, that this method is apparently problematic with some features like redirected or shortened URL. Try to remove the goo.gl address and run the Ads on the full original URL (just keep the URL builder parameters)."

If you Google "facebook clicks different than analytics visits" you'll see many people in your situation.

Dan (nice name)
Thanks for the response! I had assumed there would be a deviation between FB and GA - but is it typical for GA to show practically only 60-70% of the clicks? It seems like a big difference?
Thanks!

Clicks are usually different than visits in PPC. The same person can click your ad multiple times, which raises your clicks, but not your visits. This could certainly account for the discrepancy. Google Analytics isn't 100% accurate anyway.

PPC Long tail keywords
I was wondering feedback and input on creating long tail keywords associated with a question. With addition a landing page that addresses that problem with a few products. Using PPC to bid on long tail keywords, I would set a campaign for long tail keywords and have multiple ad groups with a close knit and similar sentences like "Top 10 highest rated summer dresses" and "Popular dresses for the summer weather." My landing page would address the question with a list of products like a buzz feed article format. 1. As it is on a subdomain blog with an add to cart feature, would interlink building be helpful in exchanging link juice. 2. Bidding on a long tail keyword is cheaper, but will they result in higher conversions since its hyper-specific question? And since it is a long tail keyword sentence. 2-3 smaller keywords between the sentence would also pick up on to Google search?

Changing Adwords campaign titles still mess up Analytics data?
Recently, Google announced an update in de Google Analytics Adwords integration that should wield out the ancient trouble caused by changing your campaign titles in Adwords. http://analytics.blogspot.nl/2013/07/new-adwords-integration-platform.html?utm_source=buffer&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Buffer&utm_content=buffer6bfb4 Two months have passed, but I still see double entries for the same campaign after a (minor) title change. Are they still busy rolling out the update to all Analytics account or is there something wrong with our Adwords<>Analytics integration? What's your experience? iO9Vafz.png?1

Does sitewide SEO affect PPC Quality Score?
When evaluating a PPC landing page for Quality Score, does Google evaluate the other pages that the landing page is linked to? For example, if we have a well optimized page on the site for "Widgets", can it outscore a well optimized PPC landing page that is isolated in a "disallow" directory with no links into or out of the page? I'm not sure if I am making myself clear...

PPC ad guidelines?
I learned Google PPC years ago and got certified by Google. Back then and for a long time since I know it was best practice to capitalize words in your domain name. I know Google no longer does this and that words in your domain name of your ad are now all lowercase. I hear recommendations and see them practice that adding keywords in a directory are a good way to still get capitalized words in your ad. When I learned PPC, I was told your display URL and your destination URL had to match. Now I'm seeing ads where that is not the case. If I have an ad that takes someone to my homepage of a coupon site, can I have a display URL that says: mysite.com/Coupons Even if the destination URL is just mysite.com ? I'm seeing conflicting things online and it's hard because I don't know what the current guidelines are after this change.
