How to measure number of links out from a page
-
Following on from earlier Q, what do you all use to count links out from a page. I believe there is a bing tool which does this, though rather than a list of sites a simple number would be ideal?
-
I was caught up in the wording.
OSE lists the number of internal and external links for a website.
But you also have to factor in where they are linking to. Links to spam sites is not a site you want to be associated with.

Got it; linkfromdomain:

Forgive me if I've lost my way here though Im interested in links out from a site rather than back links. Im sure there is a bing tool? Im interested in finding out where a site links to and the number of sites it links to and therefore just how much this might weaken a link if you were to attain one on that page. For example if you find a blog which is very relevant to your business and you can see a link passing good relevant juice. If you can then see which sites that blog links out to then you can write 'You link to ..... and we're similar to them so perhaps we can have a link too? Also a number of sites they link out to might help you decide whether the site would pass as much link juice as on a superrficial review looking at just PA/DA and/or OSE?

It would be convenient if links were absolute in value. E.g, four links are worth twice as much as two links. But they are not and there is a ton of value in analyzing where links are coming from and where your competition is getting links.
Open Site Explorer is a good option for this. So is Yahoo Site Explorer. Majestic is another option.
OSE is my preference. Each one will likely give you a different number of links. Some links are discounted for appearing spammy, some are considered duplicates, etc. While you may not always have an absolute number to rely on, there is value in analyzing what you and your competitors have and improving on that over time.

A large number of high spam links are negatively affecting my DA, how do I remove them?
I have identified a large number of very high spam score links to "free wallpaper" coming into my site.

I am running a wordpress blog and would like some advice on the best course of action. There are thousands of spam domains linking to various images on my site with the anchor text "get free high quality hd wallpaper" The webmasters for these domains are not contactable so I am planning to submit a disavow file to google. I am aware these links have negatively affected my DA so would like to do more to remove them. My questions are: will deleting the images they link to help?
As this is on a wordpress site deleting the images will result in a soft 404, should I force a hard 404 to properly break the link?
Will this positively improve my DA?1 -
Outbound Links
I have a page on upstrap-pro.com that provides weights of cameras and lenses. The user/buyer of my on-slip camera straps needs to know the weight his camera and lens to determine the proper pad size... large to small. We have put together a long list of the most popular customer cameras. The way it was done (by my daughter) was to also provide a via a link to dpreview.com which is an excellent site for camera information including specifications etc. My personal feeling about this is mixed. I can do it by having it open dpreview.com in a new tab but then the user/customer could still get distracted and go down the rabbit hole. On the other hand dpreview is such a good site that if they are new to photography and don't know about it, they should. I don't get a dime from dpreview. If fact I doubt they would ever link back to me because they do not write about camera straps. I hear mixed things about outbound links. In this file there are quite a few outbound links to dpreview to keep it consistent. I could do a nofollow on all of them but I read that this is the easy way out. Google is jump ball and I have no clue what Cutts and his merry men are going to decide is cool or not cool. I'd like some thoughts or options... Thanks... A small part of the file below. What is meant by to many on page links
I have just done the report for my site http://www.in2town.co.uk and it says i have 246 on page links but i am not sure how come i have got that many. I know i have a large number of links and in the old days it says that you should keep the links under 100 but now with website speed and the net, people are saying this is no longer listened to. A report i read said that the links should not confuse the reader or put them off, so i am just wondering what your thoughts are on a site with over a 100 links on the home page and also if my site does have to many links what should i do about it. I cannot understand why it is showing 246 when i do not see that many on the page, any advice would be great

Link Diversity
With the current updates in the Seo world how critical is link diversity. We are revamping our site and planning to add many new pages to our site and planning to build links to relevant pages with relevant anchor texts keywords. Also we are planning to add relevant H1, H2 and H3 tags with metatag description and content with keyword rich content specific to that page. Any advise

Do pages that are in Googles supplemental index pass link juice?
I was just wondering if a page has been booted into the supplemental index for being a duplicate for example (or for any other reason), does this page pass link juice or not?

I have pages that are showing up as having too many links, yet they are noindexed.
I've got several pages that have "too many on page links" and the pages mentioned have already been noindexed. Do these pages need to be no followed too? Here's one of the pages: http://digisavvy.com/site-map/. There's several pages like this, most of which are category or tag archives, which I've noindexed... Do I need to nofollow these, too?

Onpage linking
On my homepage, I currently link to about 40 internal pages. I'm considering altering the internal linking structure to have 50-100 links on the 2nd level pages. If I was to do this, I'd only need 8 homepage links. Do you think the 8 pages linked from the homepage would go up in the SERPs as the pagerank would be less diluted? I've heard so many mixed views on this. Be interested to see what people here think. Thanks, Pete
