I was wondering, Is there any value in these days to advice clients to create LINK US or LINKS page with bunch of reciprocal links on it and solely for link exchange, I remember reading somewhere that, it is little useless in terms for ranking nowadays?

Am I right? Thanks!

Hi Matthew, you are quite right, there is little to be gained by this.

Only provide a link out to another website where it benefits your visitors from visiting that other site. Links out are good, but not as a part of a link exchange, that can actually be poor for your SEO efforts.

Always think of the user experience first and foremost, that way, the SEO you do will be ethical and beneficial, you'll gain more that way.

Too many on page links

Hi i'm new to MOZ, after sacking my SEO consultant due to the penguin update. My site position isn't fantastic right now for my national and local search terms 😞 The first problem i have is tackling too many on page links. I understand it should be 100 or less, unless users would benefit more. Looking at my links i have up to 200 on page links (which i know are not beneficial or user friendly). If i give you an example this page has 208 links: http://www.drivejohnsons.co.uk/blog/page/3 Heres another one with 157 links: http://www.drivejohnsons.co.uk/author/admin/page/2 Here's one that isn't associated with my blog that has 188 links: http://www.drivejohnsons.co.uk/testimonials On average most pages excluding the blog have around 120 links per page and i know thats to do with my Nav Bar - which i will sort out. My question is: Because the majority of these high link pages are associated with my blog, will that affect my site SEO performance? If yes, does anyone have any suggestions as to how i can reduce the total links on each page within my blog? The more i blog, this number is only going to increase 😞 Im using wordpress. I was just wondering if any of these imports would help ? | Blogger | Install the Blogger importer to import posts, comments, and users from a Blogger blog. Blogroll | Install the blogroll importer to import links in OPML format. Categories and Tags Converter | Install the category/tag converter to convert existing categories to tags or tags to categories, selectively. Best way to get over the Hump (from page 2 to page 1)

Hello, I've recently been able to bring my site way up in the rankings for some very competitive keywords. I've done nothing spammy, and everything has been done with a lot of detail and a focus on only using the best techniques. My site is on page 2 for a lot of keywords. What would be your suggestions for getting over that hump and making it to page 1? I'm happy with my results (coming from pages 30-50 to page 2 over a couple of months) but I'm not satisfied and won't be until I can be on the top of page 1... Any suggestions are welcome... Thanks

Does the twitter link shortening service reduce link value (strength).

We have many SEO team members that use Twitters link shortening service, will this reduce the strength or value of the page to be indexed? I ask this cause the displayed URL isn't the actual page it is going to and would like to make appropriate changes to improve our company's SEO For example: http://t.co/zHu8vIcjPx is going to page http://4wheelonline.com/atv/QuadBoss.107503 Thank you for your assistance.

Build links to home page or internal to rank internal pages?

I understand that naturally people link to the home page and internal pages - probably the home page more often than not. In order to build a natural looking link profile I also understand that I need a variety of anchor text, brand and url links. Should I be building links mainly to the home page with only a few to internal pages? Ultimately I want my internal pages to rank for specific terms so in my head it makes sense to concentrate my link building effort to internal pages but that would seem unnatural to google I'm sure. For arguments sake if I only built links to the home page with a mix of the anchor texts described above would these internal pages rank eventually anyway as 'link juice' flows throughout the site? Or is it an absolute must to build some links to internal pages. Could a page rank for a keyword without having any links to the site with the keyword anchor text (simply url links) based on the page title/content? Also what is a good ratio of home page to internal links? I would assume around 10:1? A lot of questions I know but I'm confused as to what will be the best strategy.

My competitors all seem to use "junk" pages to rank / backlink, how to compete and not cheat

Hello, Page 1 of Google for the word "copier lease" and most other valuable copier leasing terms are dominated by the same 4-5 for organic (PPC too of course, but organic is what I want) They all use some SEO company, so when I go and look for good link oppertunities, most of the pages I find are just SEO companies who of couse would never be interested in a competitor's link. Examples: ajaxunion blogspot com or excellentpoly blogspot com and the list goes on, all just AjaxUnion "blog pages". blog homerenovationguide com /2011/06/15/repair-or-replace is just inhouse SEO making ranking pages for CostOwl. So, its hard NOT to want to throw up a blog farm and do as "the Romans do". What ideas do you all have to get backlinks in this market of Copier Leasing that would hold up. Thanks 6SW66.png 6SW66.png

Page specific external followed links

Hi, I'm using Site Explorer to research my website but the stats don't have up! Page Specific - External Followed Links: 11
Sub Domain - External Followed Links: 40
Root Domain - External Followed Links: 40 Total links: 1,733
Total links on webmaster tools: 781 How does this add up? Why am I getting varied results.. And what is the difference between Page, Sub and Root when I only tested www.mysite.com? Any help would be great! Shaun

Value of a link from very large profile site

Hello We have an opportunity to get a link from a very large traffic site. It comes with a price tag, and Im wondering if it is worth it. Is it ok to mention the page and cost? It is the 5th largest internet site. Would be on their benefactors page. There are many other sites linking from the page, and its obvious they are on there for the link value. I know sometimes one link can do wonders for rankings, where thousands of others can not. But wondering if there is any way to quanitfy this. Is it worth it for the value of the backlink? If we link to the home page, the link juice (alot I hope) would pass through to the deeper pages, and increase their rankings for their target keywords? Thanks for your advise. Sam
