Yes, it is a good idea,
You dont want to have 100% "do follow" comments, it is simply unnatural for big G.
just dont put to much effort into it.

I agree with Stores Direct...
Blog Commenting has actual marketing value past just SEO/SEM. Now is commenting on a blog "Keyword-Keyword-Keyword-Keyword.com a good idea... Probably not or is getting thousands or even hundreds of these in a day or maybe even month depending on your current link portfolio a good idea probably not as well.
But commenting on a post, on a reputable blog No Follow or not with a comment that is relevant and informational to the post in question is good for many things as stores direct points out, but should not be a focus to your overall strategy.

I see leaving comments relating to the content on relevant blogs as being a valid part of a link building plan - this is a natural way of connecting and engaging with your target audience. As such it improves your chances of getting qualified traffic and organic links, and adds to your link diversity regardless of whether the link is no follow.
I think it would be unwise to focus too much on this approach as an excess of this type of link would look unnatural, and would steer clear of anything approaching comment spam. The test I use when leaving a blog comment is
- Do I have something to contribute to this conversation?
- Can a link to my website add value to this page?

I would say not really as google do not value no follow links. However a natural looking back-link profile would consist of some no follow links in my opinion.

Suddenly Getting more than a 100 links. Is it a problem?
Hi Everyone, My client writes articles for a very prominent news source in the area where I live. Attached to each article there is her bio, but she never asked the news source to link to her website. So far, she has written more than 100 articles. Link building strategy - my weak link!
Please help me understand link building. I've read the articles on Moz, but they seem vague to me. Specific questions: 1. How do I get my webpage on good quality sites? 2. Guest blogging? Good or not? 3. What about when people pick up one of our blog stories and publish it on their site with a link back? Is that bad now because it is duplicate content??? 4. Forum posts with a link in the signature? Good or not? 5. Directories - I get it that these are no longer good... are they severely negative? Should I take them down. 6. Link Requests in Order Confirmation Emails- Still a good idea?
I found this post from Rand from 2008 http://moz.com/blog/headsmacking-tip-1-link-requests-in-order-confirmation-emails 5 years later I'm wondering in a "no-follow" for all unnatural links in the google world we currently live in, is it still a good idea? Also does is really work? or does it annoy the customer? would it be better to use that space to up sell to your customer?

Google to devalue guest blog links?
There's a lot of talk at the minute about google possible devaluing guest post links. I wondered what people thought of this and whether it is likely to happen? If it does happen then how will google identify 'spam' guest posts and links? I guess it's fair to assume that if the post is well written, autoriative and adds value to a site with a knoweldgable perspective then it will be counted? It can be very hard to define how google will define a 'quality guest post'? Any ideas? Niche Web Design company - Links from all your clients - Good or Bad?
If you were a web development company that specializes in a specific niche & you were to have a link back to your website on all of the websites you have designed would this be seen as crappy links & would hurt you due to the Penguin Algo updates? Or since it's a niche web development company, having links from the same industry websites be seen as decent links? Thanks
