Yahoo Directory Question
-
I'm working on building some links for a used car store and thinking about submitting a site to the Yahoo Directory. The page that I want to rank for this category is not the homepage of the site (as the store also sells new vehicles), so I'm curious if anyone knows if I can submit a specific page instead?
If not, how does the idea sound of creating a separate domain that 301 redirects to my page of choice and submit that to the directory?
EDIT: Found this in the Yahoo TOS:
"The site may not appear in the Directory under a different URL."
"The site must not be dedicated to directing the user to another page."
Hm. Any ideas? Should I just submit the homepage?
-
Ya, wasn't too sure it would greatly benefit this specific page that I'm trying to rank -- but I imagine it will be an overall good thing for the site.
-
Agreed. You will get some good link juice to the home page. Place highly optimized anchor text on the home page to the URL you want and that will help you out the most in building authority to that page.
-
I believe homepages are only accepted.
Also I am pretty sure a 301 would make your submission in valid and rejected and YOU DO NOT GET A REFUND!!!!
I would suggest just submitting the homepage, but not sure this will really help you in your specific link building efforts even though the Yahoo directory is powerful and respected.
w00t!

SEO traffic + backlinks question
Let's say I want to write a guest post for a website that is relevant to my website. Should i guest post on a website with high traffic but the traffic country is not mine? (eg// My website sells products in Canada only, should i guest post on a high traffic site from India?) Or would it be better to find a lower traffic website to guest post on but their organic traffic comes from Canada? Thanks!

Directory listings for a new site and it's implications on SEO
Hi all, In classic newb style I have submitted my new site to several uk directory listings after seeing these listings used by competitors, both local and national. I chose ones with a low-spam score as shown on the Moz site explorer. Now my domain score has jumped up several places over a few days, as has my search position, but will these listings "hurt" in the future? I fully intend on chasing and gaining non-quick'n'easy links in the future for he record. Many thanks!

Making a custom web directory
I am wondering if it is beneficial to launch a social bookmarking website based on Semantic Scuttle [http://semanticscuttle.sourceforge.net/demo] in order to gain inbound links. For the sake of example, say my industry is ebooks. I would of course add links to all of my products to the site. In addition, I would want to add links to competitors products to the site to make the site actually useful and not look like spam. On the face of it, is this a good idea? Secondly, I of course wouldn't want to be helping out competitors, so would any of these actions be advisable? add nofollow links to all links except those pointing to my site. ads or featured listings pointing to my links. I make it so only voted on links are dofollow. Thus, competitors could actually get links from my site. Naturally, I would vote on all my submissions. The idea of the site would actually be to provide a meaningful service. Once it's done I would want to get people linking to it. Any advice? Thanks! Edit: I added scenario #3 which I think is probably the best option, if this is even a good idea. I would also make some static content to really make this a good resource!

Blog comments question
Hi, I don't tend to blog comment that much unless it's actually a genuine comment as in, my first thought wasn't gaining a link back. What is the best practise for this type of link building? This is how I do it (When I am looking to gain a link back) title - brand name website - root domain comment - I try and go above and beyond with this, take it out of the spam arena by reading the article and then replying with at least 100 words referencing to part of the article. Would you classify the above as the wrong way about it? I know some say no-follow links (most blog comments out there) don't count but when I see the external link pop up in WMT it does make me think no-follow links count for something. Cheers

Directory Listing Quality
Have any of you ever purchased a directory listing with Absolute Directory (http:www.absolutedirectory.com)? I was thinking about suggesting it to some of my clients since it was inexpensive, had a good domain authority (58), moz trust (5.81), and didn't seem to be filled with any ads or obtrusive content. Any thoughts? Is this to good to be true? Regards - Kyle

What are the best paid directories today?
Looking to do some paid directory submissions and was wondering if a) they were still worth the money and b) if you have $500-$1,000 what paid directories would you submit too? I am assuming that BOTW is still on the list, but I rarely every see a BOTW link in any backlink report. Are they still relevant or are they more a sign of quality to the engines rather than an actual link? Same with JoeAnt
