.com or .co.uk in UK index? but the .com has higher domain authority...

Hi there i have a .com and a .co.uk for a site that has been around a while.
However not much seo has been done on it, i was wonderign do i continue to optimise for the .com or switch to the .co.uk to rank in Google UK index for various search terms.
.COM = 40 domain authority
.CO.UK - 10 domain authority.

In the UK people are pretty comfortable with either a .co.uk or a .com - and likewise I've not seen any evidence to suggest that the search engines favour .co.uk sites.
As .com is stronger I'd be inclined to go with that

Yes the .com does have more links going into it, the .co.uk has little in comparison.
I just wonder with ip seaching, more local search stuff if it would be better long term to switch to the .co.uk ?

Remember that having a country domain does play some role in ranking well in country search but it's not such a large role that it's insurmountable. It's possible to have a .co.uk rank well on .com and vice versa. A much larger role is played by the site content and where your links are from. It sounds like (based solely on your numbers) that your .com has more links to it. If those links are recognized as being UK already then it wouldn't surprise me that your .com is winning. What does Open Site Explorer show for your backlinks?

Should we 301 redirect our old domain to the new domain
We have a product that when started was under the domain appnowgo.com. We've since changed the name and the domain is now knackhq.com. The latter domain doesn't rank nearly as well as the former for many of the keywords we are targeting. For example... "online database builder" and "web app builder" are two of those keywords. Obviously having app in the domain is not a bad thing but it is our old name. The question is, should we 301 the appnowgo.com domain to knackhq.com? Or should we use that better rank and just link users to knackhq.com from the appnowgo.com site until we can increase our ranking for knackhq.com? We don't plan to update the content on appnowgo.com anymore and we obviously don't want to drop off rank if at all possible. Thanks! Eric

Umlaut in domain
Hi, My client wants to expand it's business to Germany and logically we need a domain name to match. We've found a great one and regsiterd several variants to it. However I just found out that in Germany it is possible (while here it's not) to register a domain with an umlaut. My question is: will google assign more value to: schädlinge.de than schadlinge.de when users search for schädlinge? If yes, how large will the difference be? (I will use an umlaut in the title etc) Kind regards,

Page Rank 7 - Domain Authority of 6 (How does this happen)
Iv never seen this before, but what do you guys make of this? http://www.becitywise.com/ According to Google, its a PR7 website. SEOMOZ are reporting a DA of 6 (1 link to the domain) http://www.prchecker.info/check_page_rank.php Any thoughts as to how or why Google have assigned such a high PR? According to Whois, the domain was registered on 16/07/12 so its brand new... The funny thing is, many people purchase links based on the Page Rank, so this guy must be making a fortune. (the Friends links I assume are all paid links) Greg

Domains and subdomains
When I started a campaign for my message, I got the message: "We have detected that the domain www.vamospaella.com and the domain vamospaella.com both respond to web requests and do not redirect. Having two "twin" domains that both resolve forces them to battle for SERP positions, making your SEO efforts less effective. We suggest redirecting one, then entering the other here." I wasn't sure whether I had said it was a subdomain when in fact it was a domain (or the other way round), so I started another campaign for the same website using the other option and the message didn't come up. However, I still don't understand what you meant by this and whether it's an issue. When I search for my website in Google, it shows as vamospaella.com when other websites come up as www. and then their domain name. If it is a problem, is it to do with my hosting package and how it's set up or is it to do with my local site on my computer? I did ring my web host, 1&1, but they said they couldn't see a problem. Please can you let me know how I can resolve this as my ranking is still quite low in Google and I'm not sure why. If it is because of "twin domains", then will Google see my content as duplicated and keep me low in their rankings? I'm new to SEO and not a website novice, so please answer in lay terms! TLD domain rediversion
Hello, I have got a .co.uk version of my domain which is parked with godaddy and I want to divert it to the .com version which is the live site. At the moment the .co.uk version is showing a godaddy landing page. My setup is: Godaddy as domain registrar, domain.com host separate hosting company. I looked into godaddy panel and I guess I have two options. (which I have done as a quick fix), I have done the diversion within godaddy panel to the .com version. It simply asked for which domain I wanted to forward the .co.uk to, and I have entered the .com version. I can create the .co.uk domain within my shared hosting and repoint to the .com within the hosting company DNS settings, and have godaddy simply point to the hosting company nameservers instead. Are the two solutions above equivalent or is one better than others ? Esp. from an SEO point of view? If someone has technical expertise to explain, this would be great. I think it would also help other companies in the same situation. Thanks ! 🙂

301 Redirect Domain or 301 Redirect Domain + Interior Pages
Hello - My company acquired another company in our industry and our IT team immediately set up the acquired companies domain name as a an alias to our site. This created a duplicate version of our website under another domain name and Google started ranking interior pages from the aliased acquired site for several top keywords that were previously held by our real site. Should we 301 redirect just the top level domain name of the acquired site to the real site or 301 redirect the top level domain name and the interior pages on the acquired site to help ensure that our real domain will take back the rankings it once had?
