If I wanted to outrank this competitor www.hannibals catering.com, would it help me or not to use our keywords in the footer like they did, or is there a better alternative?
-
It is not a simple text I suggested, but a hcard, and i did not suggest it for users, but for SEO and local search. It carries local value: http://smallbusinessshift.com/articles/microformats-for-local-seo/ I suggested links as well. A footer area in my opinion should hold definately more than two links. These links do carry useful value, as after finishing reading all the content on a page you get to the footer and you can scroll up till the main menu or you can find something useful you can clcik in the bottom. I think it is a great way to lead visitors through your site. I think a carefully designed sites should give some attention to this factor. If you do doubt that users click footer links just look at your analytics and draw the conclusions yourself.

I have found it useful to add a paragraph of text the describes the content of your page in 'human-readable' text, meaning that you expect your readers to see and make sense of the text. So 80 - 100 words of useful text where you use your 1 - 2 main keywords and associated terms. It can be particularly useful for pages that weren't designed with any copy. You see that often on ecommerce sites, in particular.

Please mark this a good answer if you found it useful.

cool I will look into it, thanks for the link.
-
Not exactly:) Read here: http://microformats.org/wiki/hcard
-
great thanks for the input - just a quick question what you mean by hcard format? As in use the correct html tag for address
<address>my company address </address>
-
Hello,
I would definately place there my primary site-wide keywords with large and bald fonts and make them a link to the relevant pages. if you are going for local seo than placing there your address may carry additional benefits, just make sure to do it in a hcard format. If place a hcard your campíny name will definately be needed there. Keep in mind that footer area forwads the least pagerank of any website area but it can be an important navigational aid for users.

Linking back to the homepage im trying to rank - Using exact match anchor? Linking from footer?
Hello, Our site is an basically advertisements / listings website. Structure is as following <last 200="" adds=""> (homepage trying to rank) < category 1 > < category 1 > < category 1 > < category 1 > < category 1 ></last> My question - each of the categories links back within the menu back to homepage. The link text currently is last 200 adds. Can i use exact match anchor? Or should i use just last 200 ads? The issue is that one of my categorys (category 1) has already the exact match anchor im trying to rank for. So i can not use the same to link back to homepage. Im worried that google does not see any exact keyword anchor texts back to homepage hence will rank my homepage with lower strenght for that keyword . Im also worried that the category 1 page might now compete with the main homepage for this word (even tho at the moment category itself does not rank for this keyword) Can i link from footer back to homepage with an alternative keyword then to give some "context" to google more? Would this be spamming?

No progress in 4 months in a non-competitive area !
Hi SEOs 🙂 We are a SEO and Web Agency based in Cholet, France. We have this client (Alpage Choaille : <cite class="_sd">www.alpage-choaille.fr/</cite>) for now 3 months, we have done all of the on-page optimization so far but can't get ANY progress on all of the 15 keywords tracked. This is not a competitive area, and we are looking at "local" rankings ( chalet beaufortain, gite beaufortain, gite en savoie, gite de charme, chalet de charme). We haven't done much OFFSITE, and we can't see any links on Open Site Explorer or Moz as this site is not part of their database. Many thanks in advance for your help. Best Regards, Benjamin

Best practice for footer in ecommerce - Shall I add Top Category links?
What would you recommend regarding links to "Top Products" and "Top Categories" in footer? Would you add them to give extra link juice to top categories? would you try to avoid category links in footer that are already in the header navigationor in the main content area to avoid linking twice from all pages? would you vary these top category links in footer according to main category

What is the right schema.org link for a web design / developer / mobile agency?
It seems strange that a group of web developers would make up an entire structured language to designate businesses by category and somehow forget to include companies like.... web developers. So I must be missing it, what is correct to use?

Are My footer links bad?
I started working here recently, they said the footer links were to help with navigation of their most popular products. I am curious after reading http://www.seomoz.org/blog/internal-linking-strategies-for-2012-and-beyond if having these footer links could hurt the ranking of those key words after the penguin update. I am looking more into the analytics, and have not seen a negative impact yet.

Thoughts on these footer links
I have a site that has about 20 footer links. A main Category and 4-5 links under each. The site is very large, so I feel they do have some value for navigation, and they don't blend in with the background at all. I know penguin was cracking down on footer links, but I don't feel theses are "spammy" links. Will it hurt long-term to leave these links, or should we pull them?

Navigation Links in Footer
What are your thoughts about navigation links in the footer? For example: www.chasepaymentech.com - good, bad, or indifferent for SEO?

How do you block development servers with robots.txt?
When we create client websites the urls are client.oursite.com. Google is indexing theses sites and attaching to our domain. How can we stop it with robots.txt? I've heard you need to have the robots file on both the main site and the dev sites... A code sample would be groovy. Thanks, TR
