What does this technique achieve? Is it bad or good?
-
There is a technique that makes a category results page never change its links:
www.example.com/category/apartments
www.example.com/category/apartments-apartment1
www.example.com/category/apartments-apartment2
www.example.com/category/apartments-apartment3
www.example.com/category/apartments-apartment4Instead of the classic:
www.example.com/category/apartments
www.example.com/details/apartment/id/789
www.example.com/details/apartment/id/788
www.example.com/details/apartment/id/787
www.example.com/details/apartment/id/786Basically:
- The URL www.example.com/category/apartments-apartment1 today will have one apartment, and tomorrow will have another, on the same link.
- The category page never changes links, it always has the same 10 links, that look the same as the category url and are numbered from 1 to 10.
-
I think that's kind of a great solution for the fast changing world of rentals.
With this one: www.example.com/details/apartment/id/786 - you're going so many folders down that Google may not even index what you have.
-
Well I know it's a usability issue, but my superior doesn't care about it, he only cares about SEO, and he thinks that technique (that one of our competitors is using) will also be good for our website.
So that's what I'm trying to find out, why are they using it. And the main explanation I find is to have one single category page, with 10 links that get a lot of traffic, since links never change, only the content they point to.
-
I think this becomes a usability issue. If I want to link to XYZ Apartment and I link to www.example.com/category/apartments-apartment1, tomorrow, the content of this page changed and its now referencing ABC Apartment, which is not what I intended to do. So it does not sound like a great idea. Another thing, can you do www.example.com/city-state/apartments-name-of-the-apartment-1 www.example.com/city-state/apartments-name-of-the-apartment-2 www.example.com/city-state/apartments-name-of-the-apartment-3 I hope that helps.

How bad is a trailing slash?
I am working in Magento 2 which has all sorts of difficulties. My product page is example.com/testproduct the canonical is the same. But in the sitemap it is example.com/testproduct/ In a perfect world I would get rid of the trailing slash but can't because of this issue- https://magento.stackexchange.com/questions/205337/unique-constraint-violation-found-when-remove-suffix-html-magento-2-2-0 The trailing slash will 301 redirect properly. Is it an issue having the sitemap urls different with the trailing slash?

Anyone have a good process for Schema.org auditing?
I am looking to do a Schema.org audit across a large number of websites that all run on the same platform. I'm not really sure where to start and what format to use for a deliverable. I suppose starting by checking for errors on the current schema and documenting them and then moving on to additional schema that could be added to the JSON+LD? My last structured data audit I just used a spreadsheet and it didn't come out as neat as I would have liked. Anyone who has some experience in this, your input would be much appreciated!

Pingbacks and Trackbacks: A good source for Disavow links?
I am 100% new to the world of WordPress, more advanced CMS systems, and all the interesting things that have been developed over the last several years on the web. After installing WordPress I noticed options to allow pingbacks and trackbacks. Upon researching these, I found it interesting that you can very quickly and easily identify spam wordpress blog sites that mention your article in a spammy fashion if you leave this option ENABLED. Because you literally get a notification of new nonsense happening on the web that may affect you. Is this a logical, rational thing to leave enabled and use as one of many tricks to manage new additions to a disavow file? It almost seems like a Godsend because you don't have to go looking for them.

Duplicating relevant category content in subcategories. Good or bad for google ranking?
In a travel related page I have city categories with city related information.
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | lcourse
Would you recommend for or against duplicating some relevant city related in subcategory pages. For visitor it would be useful and google should have more context about the topic of our page.
But my main concern is how this may be perceived by google and especially whether it may make it more likely being penalized for thin content. We already were hit end of june by panda/phantom and we are working on adding also more unique content, but this would be something that we could do additionally and basically instantaneously. Just do not want to make things worse.0 -

XML Sitemap & Bad Code
I've been creating sitemaps with XML Sitemap Generator, and have been downloading them to edit on my pc. The sitemaps work fine when viewing in a browser, but when I download and open in Dreamweaver, the urls don't work when I cut and paste them in the Firefox URL bar. I notice the codes are different. For example, an "&" is produced like this..."&". Extra characters are inserted, producing the error. I was wondering if this is normal, because as I said, the map works fine when viewing online.

Is all duplication of HTML title content bad?
In light of Hummingbird and that HTML titles are the main selling point in SERPs, is my approach to keyword rich HTML titles bad? Where possible I try to include the top key phrase to descripe a page and then a second top keyphrase describing what the company/ site as a whole is or does. For instance an estate agents site could consist of HTML title such as this Buy Commercial Property in Birmingham| Commercial Estate Agents Birmingham Commercial Property Tips | Commercial Estate Agents In order to preserve valuable characters I have also been omitting brand names other than on the home page... is this also poor form?

How important is a good "follow" / "no-follow" link ratio for SEO?
Is it very important to make sure most of the links pointing at your site are "follow" links? Is it problematic to post legitimate comments on blogs that include a link back to relevant content or posts on your site?
