Root page not coming up first
-
Hello.
Any idea why site:www.bestprice.gr query doesn't bring the www.bestprice.gr as the first result?
Could it be that the site is under a penalty?
Thanks.
-
That's what I think too.
However, I do feel this has to do with some kind of penalty or issue concerning our site.
If any clues come up, please share.
Thanks.
-
I don't think your site is under a penalty, if it were, you would not see any links in the search result.
It is weird, especially since the query "bestprice.gr" and "www.bestprice.gr" (no "site:" ) bring up the root domain as the first result.

Oh, no, nothing like that indeed.
We, in fact, render meta tags (description and keywords) only if the user-agent is identified as bot.
Here is how GoogleBot "sees" the page: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:1TyyWcAAVlsJ:www.bestprice.gr/+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk
Again, as you said, weird.
-
Let me check your page...
(thinking)
Meta robots is an alternative way to say to Google that he can go to an specific page, but just what you want him to do, like indexing, but nofollowing. The list is below:
The standard is INDEX, FOLLOW, that's why it doesn't appear above.
But I checked your site, it don't have that there, so it's not meta robots.
-
Nothing weird on robots.txt. (http://www.bestprice.gr/robots.txt)
As for the "meta robots", please elaborate.
-
Hello,
It don't appear in any page? Weird...
Maybe robots.txt, meta robots?

At what point to stop comments on a blog? Do too many comments hurt the page?
I have a page that's ranking pretty well, and driving sales. That page is starting to get 10+ comments per day and is starting to get quite long. I was wondering if there is a point where I should disable the comments? My gut tells me that people interacting with the page, and Google seeing responses with the users SHOULD be a good thing not bad. But, then I think that a majority of the content of the page is no longer the article, but the comments. All the comments are good, non spammy and directly related to the topic. People just asking questions, etc. Good engagement, I should be happy right?

For example this website is about "cars" so I wrote a pages about: Green classy cars
Green cars for the summer
Green car show 2013 What happens is that on the query of "Green car show". The page green classy cars shows up. I have the feeling that google takes one page about a similair subject and only put on in the serps. I checked this on multiply pages and this seems the case. If I search on exact "Green car show 2013" + MY URL, still then its shows indexed but only position 4. Places 1,2,3 shows again other pages of my website with similair subject. Now my feeling says the other pages have more authority and thats why they show up higher. But then...again now all the content Im adding it isnt showing up.. The last months I added around 300 pages and I did not got one visitor more daily and I have the feeling it is because it are all similair pages and google does not want to show them. My question is: Is their something I can still make them show up? Because they do have all 100% unique content and 100% unique images they only have similair subjects. or Is their some way I can tell Google that his are really different pages, so this would maybe help?0 -
Simular product pages
I have 27000 products on my website, showed one by one on a separated webpage. Google index them almost all (+- 25000). But the SEOmoz report shows them as duplicated content. Indeed, most of the page is identical, only changing description and price of the product which is indeed not more than 2% of the total content of the page. On the bottom of the product page are shown the alternatives for this product, mainly other colors. So, within the same family of products that can have 50 products, the site creates 50 webpages showing the product and it's family. That's why nearly everything on the page is identical within this family of products. My guess is, as Google indexed them all, I should not worry about duplicated content. Is my guess correct? Thanks for a soon answer. Rik

Guest Blogging - Home Page PR0
I have found a blog in my niche that accepts guest posts. However, the site is quite odd in that the homepage has a PR of 0 and all the other pages have a 2. I just wanted to check if it is still worth posting on this site as it looks suspicious to me. Thanks.

What is the best way to remove old pages (if at all)?
Hi, I have a client who has thousands of pages on his site - 50,000+. It is a news website so most of these pages are old news articles and blog posts that receive very little traffic. We are moving to a new content management system and are debating on whether or not to keep all that old content. So far our decision is to keep the content that has gotten at least 100+ visits from Bing or Google in the last 6 months but dump everything else. This amounts to around 30,000 or so pages most of which have several links pointing to them. My question is from an SEO standpoint is that okay to do? We'd not only lose pages but links as well. Part of me thinks that in light of the Panda update getting rid of old content that is good but not great could about help out the site (we do great in the SERPs and actually got a bump in traffic after the Panda update to new articles/posts). However, we obviously don't want to cause problems and that is why I'd appreciate the thoughts and ideas on the best way to handle this major downsizing in content. Thanks!
