How quick do you see google places rankings update
-
We have submitted allot of citations over the last 60 days for a client. A very prominent business in their city. Pretty good SEO rankings considering we just started doing SEO a couple months ago.
Over the last several weeks we have fixed all listings and removed duplicates. Site is optimized properly and etc..
After how many weeks should I see a change in places rankings? Right now they are not moving up at all.

Hello Waquid,
Thank you for coming to Q&A to ask your question. I'm the Local SEO Associate here in the forum. Members are doing a good job trying to share what they've personally seen in terms of updates. However, I don't believe that anyone can provide a simple answer to your question regarding if/when your client should see a change in his rankings. The reason for this is that while you are working on your client's properties, his competitors are working on theirs. So, for example, let's say that you have amassed some citations for your client over the past two weeks. During those same two weeks, a competitor has amassed a bunch of new reviews. None of this is occurring in a vacuum and the data is constantly changing. It appears to me that citation sources are updated at least once a month, but this is pure speculation. Also, you mention having had to remove duplicates and 'fix' listings - indicating that the business in question may have violated Google's policies in the past. If this is so, the degree of the violations may play a big role in how quickly Google may be willing to 'trust' the profile again.
So, as I've said, there just isn't a simple answer here. My advice to is to educate the client about the work you are doing and the vital nature of cleaning up his record so that he can work towards becoming trusted. I never make promises of high rankings or set specific dates with my own Local clients because this sets incorrect expectations for them. Instead, show that the what you have done to clean up records, amass reviews, citations, links, improve the geo hooks in their website, etc., and let them know that you are doing everything possible towards improving their standings. This is the most any Local SEO can do, giving the competitive, complex, changing and often buggy nature of Places.

I haven't done local seo in a while, but it used to take several weeks. You should watch this webinar to see if Rand can help you: http://www.seomoz.org/webinars/content-for-local-sites-and-local-search
OR watch the MozCon video: http://www.seomoz.org/videos/turning-google-places-pain-into-gain

I usually see changes every 2 weeks or so. However, it all depends on your vertical. How many citations do you have compared to your competition?
-
I can only answer from past experience, but I typically see major changes every 30 days or so.

Google instantly suspends Google+ local listing of brand new company
I just tried to create a Google+ listing for a client. It's a brand new company. As soon as I submit the listing, I get an error message: "Google has suspended your page due to quality issues." There is no content on the listing, no website, etc. Just their NAP. All I can guess is their business address or phone number is on a blacklist due to some previous tenant/owner. Does Google keep a blacklist of addresses and/or phone numbers? Any other ideas?

Is this business considered a SAB to Google?
Hi All, We have a client who designs and installs custom closets, garage systems, wall beds, home offices, etc. They have a showroom that displays all this for their potential customers to visit. I have hidden the address for this business but the client has an idea that, since they have this showroom that customers can go to, they should not be considered a SAB. My issue is with this part of Google's quality guidelines "If you don't conduct face-to-face business at your location, you must select "Yes, this business serves customers at their locations"" This client does occasionally conduct face-to-face business at the location BUT they serve the customers at their locations. Opinions and suggestions greatly appreciated!

Video SiteMap Updating
Hi all! We noticed some issues with our sitemap and so we went through and optimized it to re-submit it. At the same time, it seemed prudent to optimize our video sitemap, however we probably should have thought through that more as we are seeing the numbers of indexed videos going down. Why and what we changed: We recently moved from flash/flv video to Html5 videos with webm and mp4. So it seemed prudent to change our sitemap which was using the old flv videos. At the same time updating our videos with more SEO friendly titles seemed prudent. So far our indexed videos from the video sitemap have gone from 70,000 to 28,000, so: A. How much does a video sitemap depend on the URL of the web page versus the title and the video itself? I am assuming that Google sees a new file extension and title and assumes that it is a completely new video and that might be why they are de-indexing the old ones? I suppose we could go back and put the old sitemap to the old flv videos back up, but maybe we should just tough out the change and wait for the new videos to be indexed. Thanks!! Craig

I understand that in addition to video sitemaps, a transcription of a video, if presented properly will help google and may help SEO. I cannot find information on the basics to add transcription properly to a page. Advice or direction appreciated.
Looking for guidance or information on the nuts and bolts of how to use transcriptions with video.

Does Local SEO affect international ranking ability?
I'm 90% sure that local SEO doesn't have an affect on international rankings (it doesn't logically make sense that it would) but I wondered if someone could verify that assertion for me, either from experience or by pointing me in the direction of a resource/article that states it. Have searched high and low but can't find anything thanks j

Google Places weblink advice
In your Google Places listing on the website link option should this point to a specific location based page for your business? For example my company have several locations in different towns and cities, at present they all point back to the homepage, but should they point back to a specific location based page on the website as I am sure Google looks at the website link for location based text and it its pointing at the homepage which has generic title and h1 tags etc and does not cover location based text then the Google Places listing ranks lower as it displays the meta title in the places result? This is the only thing I can think of because the listings that appears top 2 have no additional info, no photos, no reviews etc while my listing has a description, images, video etc and the centroid location is nearer to the centre of the city than many of the others so I am at a loss again to work out why Google is ranking this so poorly in Local Search?

Google Places and Multiple Locations
Hi, I have a client with 3 different physical locations but only 1 phone number for his business. Does anyone know if Google Places will penalize me for duplicate listings due to having the same phone number or will I be ok if I have a different physical addresses per listing? Thanks, -Carlos
